Part 2: 4 useful strategies for "Dragon Quest Monsters 3"! How to scout monsters efficiently and tips on how to get the upper hand in battle!
Dragon Quest Monsters 3: Prince of Demons and the Journey of the Elves, an RPG for Nintendo Switch, is now available on December 1, 2023. This is the latest title in the "Dragon Quest Monsters" series, in which players join monsters to fight alongside them, and features Pizarro, who first appeared in "Dragon Quest IV: The Leaders," as the main character, and tells the story of his rise to the top of the demon world.
In this article, we will introduce useful techniques for scouting monsters and battles.
Increase the success rate of scouting by using meat and increasing attack power.
The most common way to recruit monsters from the demon world is to scout them. Scouting is performed by party members by selecting "Scout" from the menu screen during battle and then choosing the monster you want to bring into the party. Each monster attempts a scout attack, and the number raised during the attack becomes the scout's success rate, which is later used to determine whether or not the monster will join the party.
To increase the success rate, we recommend using meat items and strengthening spells. Using meat items will make it easier to scout a target, and using spells such as baichiruto and intel that increase attack power and smarts will increase the success rate of scouting when a strengthened ally makes a scouting attack.
In addition, the scouting success rate for all monsters is lower in the demon world visited for the first time. If the player defeats the ruler of the area, the player's name will spread, and scouting success will become easier in the entire area. It is more efficient to collect monsters by scouting after first advancing the story of that demon world.
Check the resistance of your opponents so that you can attack them effectively.
There are many attributes for special skills, such as fire and water. The amount of damage that a particular attribute can inflict on an opponent depends on the compatibility of the attribute, with effective attributes inflicting more damage and resistant attributes inflicting less. When attacking an opponent with a particular technique, the compatibility of the technique will be displayed next to the icon when the target enemy is selected, so you can always tell the compatibility of the technique. In order to efficiently inflict damage, you should try to use a special technique that is the weakest point of the opponent.
Child Monsters Become Stronger by Repeating Combinations
It is good to include a scouted monster in the party as it is, but it is better to combine it with another monster to create a new offspring. Monsters born through compounding inherit their parents' skill points, making it easier for them to learn the special skills in the inherited skills, as well as compensating for abilities such as attack and defensive strength. For this reason, the strength of an individual that has never been compounded and one that has been compounded many times differ greatly, even if the monsters are of the same race and level. Since you can compound monsters of level 10 or higher, you should not be wasteful and compound more and more.
Detailed settings for actions taken by allied monsters
In the "strategy" section, you can set the criteria for each monster's actions, but it is only a rough idea. If you want to adjust the specialties as well, use the "AI Specialties" section, which also allows you to set the frequency of the specialties used by each monster.
There are three settings: "X," "○," and "◎. ×X" prohibits the use of the technique itself. ○ and ◎ are the difference in frequency of use, with ○ being used moderately and ◎ being used frequently. For example, instead of "Behomadun," which heals all allies but consumes a lot of MP, you may want to use "Behomarah," which has a slightly reduced performance, or you may want to focus on general attack specialties in preparation for battles with normal monsters. So, as you get used to battles, you can tweak the AI specialties settings.
