Kawagoe Boys Sing" OP "Colors of Unknown" by Kaco
Samejima: Next up is "Kawagoe Boys Sing" OP, "Colors of the Unknown" by Kaco. This is a song that doesn't sound like an anime song. This is a song that is a bit out of character for an ani-song. I felt the spirit of determination to really be in love with this anime. The melody line is like something you might have learned at school in a chorus song, but when it gets to the chorus, the beat comes up really fast. The detailed drumming is cool. It's the kind of song that will trip you up if you listen to it carefully.
This anime is about a male chorus club, so there is a song for a competition, and this is the song for the competition. So I am looking forward to the male voice actors who will be singing "Colors of the Unknown" as a chorus song in the future.
I looked up the singer, Kaco, and found out that he is a singer-songwriter from Ehime Prefecture. And the composer, Daisei Mishima, is a name that I have not heard much about, so I looked him up and found no information at all.
Deguchi: Perhaps it is an alias of someone else.
Samejima Also, the songs in the anime are good. There is a song called "On the Set" in the first episode, which is sung by a character, and I thought it was a great male idol-like song that could be used as a regular anime OP. In episode 3, Subaru Kimura sings "Andalucia wo Kochite" by Marcy (Masatoshi Majima), and it is a very good song, with a very blue, muddy, melancholy feel to it. I think it is a good song animation.
There are a lot of strange characters and the story itself has a lot of plot points, but I like this work because it is very anime-like, including those points.
Deguchi: There is a male anime with music as its theme, such as "Hypnosis Mike," but that one focuses on rap and battles, so it's more like a fighting anime. But "Kawagoe Boys Sing" is more about music, songs, and melodies.
Samejima It's a very likable work. After all, the singing is not very good in the first and second episodes. I feel that everyone will get better from this point on, and it is fun to follow their growth. I think the only anime with a choir club is "TARI TARI. And it is male only. Maybe the girls watch it because they get all excited, but I watch it as a musical story. I want it to be more popular. I'm going to promote it.
Deguchi I didn't know it was that interesting. I thought it was just an anime with a bunch of voice actors, but I've changed my mind.
Samejima Of course it could be seen as an anime with a lot of voice acting, but it's not. But from the OP, I thought it was going to be a male voice actor idol song, but then I was surprised by the song. So, even though I was disappointed, this work met my expectations.
Bull Buster" OP "Try Rai Rai" (NORISTRY)
Deguchi: This was cool, very cool. Very cool. Bull Buster" is a story about how close science fiction can be to reality, and everything costs money. Not even a single bullet can be wasted. Aside from the way of thinking, the song is very upbeat. The theme of the song is a real-life work-related theme that tends to make people feel gloomy, but it is a funk-like song with a brightness that lets the gloomy feeling go away.
Samejima: "Bulbuster" is a robot animation, but at the same time, I think it is a comedy. There are obstacles at every turn, and we laugh at them, but they are just trying their best.
Deguchi: If you look at it a different way, it's like a typical small business, so it's a comedic song that fits well with the anime's worldview. I was a bit taken aback by this. I think "Patlabor" is a prime example of how far science fiction like this can go in terms of depicting reality, but the crucial difference between "Patlabor" and "Bulbuster" is whether or not the money comes from taxpayers' money.
Samejima Wahahaha! (laughs) Oh, right, taxes.
Deguchi There are a few budget stories in "Patlabor" like how much a shot costs, but the people in the Special Vehicle Section 2 of "Patlabor" are civil servants, so they can operate on the government budget. In "Patlabor," the people in the Special Vehicle Section 2 are government employees, so their activities are funded by the national budget, so it is not that serious. Who pays for the bullets? There are many works between "Patlabor" and "Bulbuster," and this film is based on various verifications, so it is not easy to compare them, but I think this work brings together the best parts of more than 30 years of verifications and criticisms that are interesting, funny, and still sympathetic.
To be continued in the second part!
Hiroyuki Deguchi made his major debut in July 2007 as the bassist of the rock band Mono Bright. In addition to participating in live performances and recordings by numerous artists as a bassist, he is also active in a wide range of other media, including songwriting, arranging, DJ, writer, and TV show MC.
Ichirokuso Samejima is the "non-frieza" of the comedy duo BAN BAN BAN, and in 2010 the duo launched the anime song DJ event "Anime Song Disco," playing anime songs at various venues both in Japan and abroad, large and small. He belongs to Yoshimoto Kogyo.
