Taiyuki's Toys and Games Vol. 35 MPG "Trainbot Seizan" Part 1

The MPG brand "Trainbot" series from Tomy's popular "Transformers" toy series has finally reached its fifth figure! The Cybertronian/Mountain Combatant Trainbot Seizan has arrived!

The Trainbots are the Cybertronian warriors who transform from Japanese train cars that appeared in the Japanese broadcast of "Transformers The Headmasters". They were very popular characters at the time. Their popularity extended to toys of the time, and many toy fans still seek out items from that era.

Such Trainbots are currently being commercialized one after another under the MPG brand, and Seizan, the fifth of these Trainbots, was transformed from the "L Express 485 Series Limited Express Train. In the toys of the time, all the cars were arranged to have the same overall length, but that is MPG, a high-end toy brand. The shape of the train in its vehicle form was also carefully considered, and the scale of all Trainbots was standardized, resulting in a lineup of vehicles with different track widths and overall lengths!

However, the six trainbots were designed to transform so that they are roughly the same height when in robot mode, regardless of such differences from that time. Takara Tomy is truly amazing!

We'll save the six figures for the final Kaen review, and this time we'll take a look at Trainbot Seizan!

The packaging is designed in the same luxurious black as before. It also includes details about the vehicle.

Here are the contents. The Seizan itself, 2 types of rails for conventional lines, Seizan's weapon (plain laser), 2 Raiden cannons, light sword for Raiden, joint parts, replacement train markings, character cards, and instruction manual.

Let's start with the L Express Series 485 Limited Express Train mode. Once again, the shape has been faithfully reproduced thanks to the full cooperation of Tomytec, which operates the TOMIX model railroad brand. At a quick glance, you might think it is a model train.

The precision of the model can be seen even from the rear of the car.

Originally, the mark of "L Express" was not "Swan", but this time, this mark is attached in reference to its appearance during the "Diaclone's Train Robot" era. Clear parts of that mark, the driver's seat, lights, etc. The red lines are painted just like a model train.

The details of the car coupling are also reproduced as much as possible. It can be connected to other Trainbot models. So, when Kaen is released, it will be possible to reproduce the 6-car coupling shown in the movie.

From the side, top and bottom. As expected, the bottom of the train is packed with parts in robot mode, but the carriage portion has been well reproduced.

This is the Diaclone version mentioned above. It is quite lightly arranged, but it still manages to reproduce the features of the "L Limited Express Series 485 Limited Express Train" extremely well.

It is very regrettable that half of the stickers of the swan mark on the Diaclone version have been peeled off. ...... When you put them together like this, they look like a father and son.

If you look closely at the driver's window, you can see what looks like a seat.

Here are the two replacement markings with each of them installed. Replacement is very easy, so you can change them whenever you feel like it.

Of course, they can be placed on the included conventional rails.

Each blaster can be folded and attached to the vehicle mode.

The plain laser can be mounted on the lower part of the vehicle body. The joint to connect to the display stand can be mounted near the center of the vehicle body.

Raiden cannon can be built into the leading part of the vehicle.

The light sword for Raiden cannot be mounted on the vehicle, but it can be stored behind the rails. The clear parts are beautiful .......

Transforms from a realistically modeled train into a robot!

MPG's version of Trainbots that have been released so far. The Shinkansen and conventional trains are different lengths, and the details are so well reproduced that it looks like they are really model trains.

No, this is a transforming robot toy!

The proof is the transform!

Since it is an MPG and has a lot of transforming moves, I will introduce the transforming gimmick in quite a few words. First, remove the leading part.

Unzip the panels around the center of the vehicle body.

Unlock each part, and open the external armor to the left and right. The silhouette will look just like an "X".

Expand and stretch the legs. The arms are further extended horizontally.

Spread the ankles and fold the panels near the arms.

Roll the shoulder panels backward and unfold the wrists. Open the chest panel.

Pop open the top of the vehicle and take out the cannon inside.

Open the leading panel so that it wraps around the ceiling and store the bogie inside.

Attach the cannon to the side again and raise the connecting joint to the main body. This completes the transformation of the leading part of the car volume.

Attach that leading part to the back and fold the structure near the knees inward to complete the deformation! This is a relatively simple deformation for a Trainbot. Standing next to it is the Diaclone version. When placed side by side, the MPG version shows respect for the Diaclone version in many places.

Back view. It is interesting that the antenna-like part seen on the back is arranged as a cannon.

In the second part, an in-depth review of the robot form. And we will introduce the combined form into Raiden!
