Anime "Toukendanbu Kaze -Kyoden Kennoyuru Honnouji-" TV anime broadcast begins in April 2024! A new animation based on the script of the stage "Toukendanbu" will start!

It was announced that the title of the new animation based on the script of the first work of the stage "Toukendanbu" that had been announced as an anime project has been decided as "Toukendanbu Kaze -Kyoden Kennoyuru Honnouji-" and that it will start airing in April 2024.

The original idea is based on the PC browser & smartphone app game "Touken Ranbu ONLINE".
The game is a sword training simulation game in which players take on the role of a priest (saniwa) and lead "sword men," famous swords transformed into warriors, to fight for the preservation of history. Since its launch in January 2015, "Touurabu" or "sword dance ONLINE" has gained a huge following and has contributed to the sword boom that has swept the nation. It has been successfully produced in numerous media mixes, including anime, musicals, consumer games, stage performances, movies, and kabuki, and has taken the entertainment world by storm.

The stage "Toukendanbu," which premiered in 2016, has become a popular series with 15 productions in the series to date, attracting many audiences with its profound and heart-stopping storyline and powerful sword fighting scenes. The title of the new anime based on the script of the first "Touken Ranbu" stage production, which had been announced as an anime project, has been decided as "Touken Ranbu Mawai -Kyoden Mo yuru Honnouji-" and will begin airing in April 2024.

Ahead of the broadcast, a teaser PV of this work was released. The PV opens with Honnoji temple ablaze with flames, and numerous swordsmen, mainly swords related to Oda Nobunaga, appear in the animated video, dramatically explaining their feelings and struggles toward Nobunaga. A teaser visual has also been released, depicting a brave group of swordsmen with determined expressions on their faces against the backdrop of Honnoji Temple.

The animation staff was also announced. Kenichi Suemitsu, who has written and directed previous stage productions for many years, will also write the series and script for this production, and the animation will be produced by Domerica (representative works: "Romantic Killer" and "The World Ends With You The Animation").
Cast information was also announced, and the same voice actors from the original game "Sword Dance ONLINE" will continue to voice the characters. Along with the character visuals, the six voice actors who will be playing the main characters in the film, Kosuke Toriumi (Munechika Mikaduki), Tomoaki Maeno (Kunihiro Yamambagiri), Yuki Tai (Sosan Left Character), Daisuke Sakaguchi (Yukimitsu Fudo), Tarsuke Aragaki (Heshikiri Hasebe), and Seiichiro Yamashita (Yakken Fujishiro), have also been invited to share their thoughts on the film. This is a stage adaptation of the game "Sword Dance ONLINE". It has been more than seven years since we have continued to stage performances while groping in the dark, based on an original idea for which the details of the story had not been clearly stated. If I counted the number of performances, I would say that there have been 15 so far. The work of delving into this vast and profound world has given us many hardships as well as many insights. When I was told that the first of these, "The Stage "Touken Ranbu" Kyoden: Kennyu Honnouji," would be reconstructed and made into an anime, I was simply astonished. What was the point of adapting the stage version into an anime when there were already two anime projects that preceded it? In order to find the meaning in my mind, I had to reexamine the story of KYODEN as I had done with the game in order to launch the stage version, rather than simply adapting the stage version into an anime. I am honored to be able to present this to you as another story of one of the main characters.

I had seen the play on which this animation is based. I was filled with a strange feeling of excitement as the words I had acted in came from the stage, and I thought to myself, "How would it be if this story were to be spelled out in an anime?

This is an anime adaptation of the stage play "Katanen Ranbu" Kyoden: The Burning Honnouji! We often hear about stage adaptations of anime, but this time it is the opposite.
There were some difficulties, but it was fun to think about how to reconcile the Gyoko Fudo that I created and the Gyoko Fudo that Mr. Taizo Shiina has nurtured on stage.
I went into the scene thinking that I would be able to add my own color to the pure and straightforward Fudo of the stage.
I am proud to say that it turned out quite well (laugh). The production retains the stage quality while adding the fun of the anime.
