New Plastic Model Reviews] AT & Kiriko from "VOTOMS" are now available as cute plastic kits! Voice actor Yasuyuki Tai takes on the challenge of "Mechatrowego Bottoms Collaboration Series Vol.1 "Supodogu & Kiriko"!
When you are a working adult, you tend to have a lot of plastic models piled up in your busy life. ...... In this series, Yasuyuki Tai, a voice actor who loves robots and plastic models, takes on the challenge of building plastic models on your behalf!
The concept is "even busy working people can make it this far on their weekends off. There are only two rules: bare bones assembly and a production period of one to two days! If you read this series, you will surely find the plastic model you want to build.
So, "Weekend Plastic Model Making by Voice Actor Taiyuki! Let's start the 88th issue!
Taiyuki's Weekend Plastic Model Vol. 88 Mecatrowego Bottoms Collaboration Series Vol. 1 "Scoopdog & Kiriko
In the last month of 2023, the 40th anniversary year of "Armored Trooper Votoms," several related plastic models were released, and this time we will introduce one of them, Hasegawa's "Mecatrowego Bottoms Collaboration Series Vol.1 Super Dogg & Kiriko (1/35 scale)".
MECHATROWEEGO and VOTOMS collaborated to create a figure with a cute, colloidal form that is easy to assemble in a variety of variations, and it is a perfect match.
First, let's take a look at the unassembled figure.
This product includes two Wego figures. As you can see, one of them is "Scoopdog," which is designed after the robot "Scopedog" from "Armored Trooper Votoms.
The other is "Kiriko," which is modeled after the pilot suit of "Chirico Cubby," the main character in the same work. Thanks to the color-coding of the parts and the newly sculpted parts, both figures have been made into a convincing collaboration.
Let's take a look at them one by one.
Scoopdogg
This is "Scoopdog". It's a beautifully designed Scopedog!
The parts of Wego are used as the basis, and new parts are used for the characteristic parts. The figure has a Wego-like appearance, but also has an armored trooper-like appearance.
Hooks have been added to the back to carry each mission pack, giving us hope for future development.
The tail lights on the buttocks are clear parts. Turn-pick molding can also be seen on the outer ankle sides.
The characteristic two grooves on the head are not forgotten either.
The turret lenses and visor, which are characteristic of the Scope Dog, as well as the parts where the hooks on both shoulders are hooked are also reproduced.
The forearm is a part of the image that has been greatly changed from the original Wego. It is so well reproduced that if you only look at this part, you would think it is the familiar "VOTOMS" plastic model.
I think the fist is especially excellent. Even though there is a bearing hole in the fist to hold a weapon, there is no lie in the modeling of the fingers that makes the "thumb dip" into the fist.
The elbows are also deformed and reproduced. The armoring on the back of the hands is not movable, but this is not a problem due to Weigo's cuteness.
The rounded legs of Weigo are connected to the angular ankles of the legs without any sense of discomfort.
The design of the soles of the feet has been well reproduced, and the dash rollers have been sculpted.
The heavy machine gun comes with its normal shape. The grip is a shaft, but it is cutely deformed.
It can be held without replacing the wrist. The scope and muzzle also have holes.
By replacing some parts, it is also possible to make it into a heavy machine gun arranged as a "water pistol". If you want to complete it as a weego used not as a weapon but in daily life, this might be more suitable.
If you lift up the visor, you can look into the face of the pilot ......, or the boy inside. This part also shows the Scopedog motif.
The Wego series is characterized by its easy assembly, cute finish, and collectability, so although it is not possible to pose it in extreme poses, "Scoopdog" looks like a reproduction of an arm punch just by lifting his hands in front of him.
Even with such a low back, it stood up stably. Although she is holding a machine gun, it looks as if she is playing "Hyakunen Savage," not "Hundred Year War," rather than engaging in a serious battle.
This is the pose for this landing. The hatch on the front of the body can be opened.
The turret lens part also comes with a second version that is more "Weego-like". Please assemble it as you like.
This arm part, which was not used in this kit, has a meaningful axis on ....... Will it be used in future lineups?
We are looking forward to seeing what is to come.
Kiriko
Next is "Kiriko" as an unassembled figure. This one is more like the original Wego.
The back is almost the same shape as the normal Wego, but the coloring is completely Kiriko's specification.
The major shape change from the regular Wego is the head. New parts such as goggles and mask parts are provided. Clear parts are used for the goggles.
The lines of the legs are the same, but it looks somewhat similar to the pilot suit worn by Chirico.
Clear parts are used for the tail lights.
The sole pattern is also the same as the regular Wego.
Both shoulders and legs are ball-jointed. The range of motion is not extremely wide, but this level of poseability is possible.
Movable range of elbows and wrists. The arm can be lightly opened and closed.
Movable leg parts. Ankle connection is also ball-jointed.
The visor is fixed, but the hatch on the body can be opened and closed. It is originally the pilot's "Kiriko", but can we call it a descent pose?
In addition, the parts of the normal Wego are included in full, and two girls are also included. This one requires glue for assembly.
Since our main focus this time is on "Scoopdog" and "Kiriko," that's all we have to say about the girls.
A little extra work goes a long way to further improve the quality!
Now, I'd like to add a little more work to the figure by attaching the included water-transfer decals from the unassembled figure. However, this decal has even the logo of "Armored Trooper VOTOMS" and the "number of the Mercia character", and it is a bargain in various ways.
So this time, I applied the decals, coated them once with glossy clear, then added a layer of matte clear, and finally added some stains using foundation I bought at a 100-yen store.
I thought it would be easier to paint parts of the decal.
Although it would have been easier to paint some parts, I decided to use decals for all the parts this time. It is good that I tried to make it dirty, but this may lead to the boy who is riding the car to be scolded by his parents, "Oh my God, you came back dirty! (laugh).
I made a similar effort with "Kiriko. However, the staining is light. The head decal is divided into three parts, so it is relatively easy to apply.
The decal is based on the motif of Chirico, so I changed the staining from "Scoopdog". Because, surprisingly, quilicos do not have an image of being dirty.
I think both "Scoopdog" and "Kiriko" will have a different impression if they are painted in more detail.
This time, I played with them from the viewpoint of the Wego world, but it might be interesting to build damaged models from the viewpoint of the Astragius Galaxy.
So this was the first collaboration between Weego and VOTOMS. There are so many possibilities ahead, and we are looking forward to the announcement of what kind of collaboration arrangement will be added to AT Weego next.
If it goes like this, will there be a "Burutishidogu & Fuiana" in Vol. 2? Personally, I would like to have "Dibingu Beetle & Kan-yu"!
