Editor's Choice

The first place went to "Kizuna no Ariru First Season" and "Kanojo, Oyasama (3rd Season)", which tied for the top spot.

Kizuna no Aril: First Season" is an idol anime in the same vein as "Kizuna Ai," a legendary Vtuber, in which aspiring virtual artists compete with each other in friendly competition. The characters' activities were not limited to the main anime, but also took on a multifaceted dimension as they actually opened a YouTube channel and vigorously distributed videos as Vtubers. The characters, cast members, and fans were very close to each other, giving the work a very live atmosphere.
In 12th place was the "second season," which aired during the fall season. The votes were split by season. If this had been a two-cour series, it would probably have won the top spot.

The other work, "Kanojo, Orozamashimasu (3rd season)," is an immensely popular romantic comedy. Viewers have often been annoyed by the no-good main character Kazuya's behavior, but in this season, Kazuya finally makes his move! The drama was heightened by the rather realistic subject matter of a crowdfunded film production. However, the end was still a blur. ...... The passion of the work and the fans' desire to know "What will happen from here? The result of No. 1 probably reflects the passion of the work and the fans' desire to know "What will happen from here? It's not the end of the anime, is it? So, expectations are high for the fourth season!

Third place went to "Why She Went to the Duke's Residence," an anime adaptation of a popular Korean novel and webcomic. The dramatic development typical of the Korean Wave has transcended national borders and gained popularity in Japan as well! The anime also seems to have garnered a high level of support.

Fourth place went to "Hajimete no Okoku. The original comic was originally popular for its hard setting and powerful action, and the anime version has been adapted without losing any of its appeal. The speedy development of the story gives the viewer a sense of being rushed through to the end.

Fifth place went to "Liar Liar. Set on an island where winning a duel is the only way to get into the upper echelon of the school hierarchy, the main characters try to survive by lying and cheating, and the thrilling development of the story was impressive. The anime ended in the middle of the original work, so one can only hope for a second season.

In sixth place, "Re:stars" was an unusual work produced in China, with Chinese voice actors acting and subtitles superimposed to show the translation of the dialogue. Moreover, it was an idol film that one might have thought was produced in Japan had it not been mentioned! It will be interesting to see how Chinese anime will fare in 2024.

No. 7 "Mahoutsukai no Yome SEASON 2 (1st season)" is a popular long-running series. The stage of SEASON 2, which was divided into 2 cool seasons, was a school, and a different human drama developed. The freshness of the setting also contributed to the popularity of the series.

Sugar Apple Fairy Tail (1st Cool)" at No. 8 was impressive for its soft colors and careful illustrations. This work also gained high popularity in the second season. The development of the third and subsequent seasons will be interesting to see.

No. 9 "AYAKA" was a fun work with powerful action scenes and a slightly strange island scenery and lifestyle, even though it is set in modern Japan.

And in 10th place was the theatrical film "Kitaro: Birth of Gegege's Mystery," which received an editorial recommendation slot. This original film is a bold adaptation of an episode from the original work, and is a spectacular work that combines the frightening worldview of "Kitaro" with the depiction of a village community unique to Japan. It was the dark horse of 2023.

In addition, there are many other representative anime of 2023 ranked below 11th place, so please take a look at them as well.
