A Little Eccentric (?). Omnidirectional Action Shooter "Maid of the Dead" Review. Defend Akiba from the zombie army with ...... maids!

Do you like zombie movies? I am quite fond of them and have seen many old and new zombie movies, and the "Maid of the Dead" introduced here is a title in which zombies attack in large numbers, just like in a zombie movie.

Please note that this article was written after playing the pre-release Steam version of the game, so there may be differences from the actual production version.

Maid of the Dead" is an omni-directional action shooting game set in Akihabara, aka Akiba. As the title suggests, the main characters in this game are maids. The game was developed by qureate, a well-known developer of "echi-chic games" featured in Akiba Research Institute, which has released numerous titles for gentlemen (?) such as "NinNinDays" and "Ore no Arikyu Koi Monogatari" ("My Vacation Love Story"). I'm very excited to see this new title from "create," a company that has released many gentleman-friendly (?) titles such as "NinNinDays" and "Ore no Arikyu Koi Monogatari"!

So, first of all, let me introduce the story.

The story takes place in Akiba, a city of fear infested with zombies due to a mysterious virus that was suddenly leaked. People running for cover are attacked by zombies one after another, and the infection spreads rapidly. Caught in the middle of the pandemic, Nagisa Hihara, a girl who works at a maid cafe in Akiba, discovers that she is a special being with antibodies against the virus.

Nagisa is determined to rescue her best friend, Rinka Kazane, who also works at the maid cafe, and who was lost during the evacuation.

In order to rescue her and save Akiba from being transformed, she decides to take up arms with the help of a researcher, Kanon Mikagami. Thus begins the girls' grueling survival ......, which is the synopsis of the film.

The unique situation of an Akiba maid fighting a zombie panic with a heavy weapon in her hand is reminiscent of the world of B-grade zombie horror movies, and will probably be a big hit with those who like them.

The game system is an omni-directional action-shooter with a look-down perspective. The player controls Nagisaki Hihara and the other girls as they try to destroy the hordes of zombies that cover the screen. There are two types of weapons: melee and ranged. Melee weapons are activated by pressing a button, while ranged weapons are automatically activated at regular intervals. The so-called "Vampire Survivors" style of play may be easier for gamers to understand.

One of the features of this title is its stage-clearance system. The game is cleared by meeting the requirements set for each stage, such as "endure for 5 minutes" or "defeat the boss.

The character's level is increased by taking hearts dropped by defeated zombies and filling up the gauge at the top of the screen. As your character levels up, you gain random skills. There is a wide variety of skills, from offensive skills such as the ability to throw grenades and fly combat support drones to support skills such as increased attack power and automatic recovery, so you can acquire skills to achieve your ideal build. This randomness of skills is one of the elements that make this game addictive and makes you want to play it over and over again.

During battle, you can activate the maid's unique special moves by maximizing the gauge that accumulates over time. The effects are extremely powerful, such as wiping out surrounding zombies, but there is a limit to the number of times they can be used during a stage, so it is very important to know when to use them and when not to waste them. The cut-in effect when special moves are used is also a nice touch for the gentleman player.

If the girls receive a certain amount of attacks from the zombies, the maid uniforms they wear will be destroyed. Then, the maids' soft skin will appear in front of you ...... with a cut-in effect!　You have to be careful not to get damaged and destroy the zombies to prevent this from happening. You must be careful not to take damage while trying to destroy the zombies!

Maids who are about to turn into zombies or who run out of energy during the battle must be treated at the base. The way to do this is to pour a special medicine on them as hard as you can. The maid who was about to turn into a zombie will return to a normal state through a mini-game-like event in which the medicine is shaken vigorously to enhance its effects and then poured liberally without hesitation. This may seem a bit naughty, but this is just an act of therapy. So, enjoy to your heart's content ...... and treat yourself to the fullest.

The exhilarating and highly addictive survival type action shooter, combined with a variety of slightly naughty elements, has completed the unique fun of "Maid of the Dead", just like the world of B-movie horror films. With the points earned from battles, you can acquire "messenger bullets" that can be used to recruit stray maids, items to strengthen maids, and accessories with various effects, allowing you to enjoy the RPG-like training elements.
