Become an Inquisitor and condemn! 'The Inquisitor' Review! Action adventure with a rich worldview

While it is fun to play games that can be played quickly and casually, there are times when you want to play a "rich" game in which you are immersed in the world. The Inquisitor" introduced here is a title with a rich worldview that meets such demand.

The Inquisitor" is an action-adventure game set in the 16th century during the Inquisition. The word "Inquisitor" in the title means "Inquisitor. Inquisitor is a judicial position that existed in the medieval world, and is an investigator whose purpose is to eliminate heresy and other religions that go against Catholic teachings. This work with an unusual theme, dealing with such an inquisitor, is a work of fiction based on the book series "I, the Inquisitor" by Polish author Jacek Piekala.

The setting is 16th century Germany. The protagonist is Mordimer Maderdin, an Inquisitor (Inquisitor) sent to the sinful city of Königstein. He is charged with administering God's law and condemning heresy, and he investigates the existence of vampires that are said to be lurking in the city. In order to solve the mystery of the murders that occur in the city during the Triumph Festival, he infiltrates the "non-world," battles the forces of darkness, and condemns the unbelievers. ...... is the story of this work. The dark fantasy style worldview of the setting of medieval Germany, the city where vampires lurk, and the mystery of the bloody murders that occur in the city ...... is sure to appeal to those who enjoy this type of fantasy work.

The player's objective in this title is to control the Inquisitor, Maderdine, to find the vampire hiding in the city. However, of course, it is not that easy to find vampires. The player must therefore go to various places and gather information from people with different habits.

The first thing that catches your eye when you start the game is the well-designed visuals of Königstein, the city where the game takes place. The old-fashioned architecture of Königstein, the dirtiness of the ground and walls, and the clothing and facial expressions of the people living there all ooze a realistic sense of life that makes you feel as if you have stepped into a movie world. Just the unique experience of walking around this well-constructed city as a person with the special role of an Inquisition officer is quite exciting.

As an action adventure, the game is basically designed to advance the story by accomplishing small objectives in sequence. However, the city is quite large, and simply walking blindly will not get you to your next destination. This is where prayer, one of Madardin's abilities, becomes important. The next destination is visualized when Maderdine prays.
Considering the game system alone, it would be fine if markers and highlights were always displayed in the direction of the next destination, but in this work, the one action of "prayer" adds depth to the mystique of the Inquisition officer and the special worldview. This is a point that I felt a strong commitment to while playing the game.

A major element that is important in this work is "choice.
As you talk with people in the city, choices repeatedly appear in front of you. Do you chastise the guard who rudely insults you or let him off the hook? Expose or mercy the son of a private witch-hunter? Do we sanction death or let live the rogue who stole from us? ...... One morally-challenging choice after another will have players pondering the options before them, as their choices will influence subsequent conversations and the outcome. Players will experience a high degree of immersion in the story, as they role-play the character of whether to be a ruthless inquisitor or a compassionate inquisitor.

The main character, Maudimar, has more than just the aforementioned "prayer" ability. Mordimer has the ability to enter the mysterious world of the "non-world" where people's souls are expressed. In this world, people can reveal secrets that they have unconsciously tried to keep hidden, but there are also troublesome beings that can disturb Modimer. The player must use "prayer" and other means to hide from the enemy and collect "memory fragments". Unlike the adventure part in the city, the "non-world" offers a horror-inspired stealth action experience that will have you sweating and gripped by the game's thrilling gameplay.

In addition, there is "Eavesdropping," where you sit on a bench and listen to people's gossip as you investigate, "Investigating," where you investigate suspicious locations at the crime scene and gather evidence like a detective, "Combat," where you use weak and strong attacks, guards, and parry to knock down enemies, and "Time Management," where you press the buttons displayed on the screen before the time runs out. The game also features a rich variety of play elements, such as "QTEs," in which players must input information before the time runs out, or input information at the right moment. This makes the game not a monotonous adventure game in which players repeatedly move and talk, but an "experiential" adventure game that will not bore the player.

The Inquisition" combines a special theme of the Inquisition with a dark and compelling worldview and a deep story. The highly immersive experience, as if you have entered the world of a novel or movie, is something that you must experience by actually playing the game. If the world view and system of this title appeal to you, please check it out.
