Manga artist Akira Toriyama passed away on March 1, 2024, jointly announced by Bird Studio Inc. and Capsule Corporation Tokyo.

According to an announcement posted on Dragon Ball Official X at noon on March 8, 2024, Akira Toriyama passed away on March 1, 2024 due to acute submural hemorrhage.


The funeral has already been held with next of kin only. A farewell party is still undecided and will be announced as soon as it is decided.

Akira Toriyama was born on April 5, 1955, and made his debut in 1978 with "Wonder Island" in Weekly Shonen Jump, followed by "Dr. Slump" in 1980 and "Dragon Ball" in 1984, both of which became worldwide blockbusters. In parallel, he published many short stories and short stories. After "Dragon Ball" ended, he consistently worked on a series of short stories, and also worked on package illustrations and monster and character designs for the "Dragon Quest" series.

Last summer, "SAND LAND," a short-run serialization, was adapted into an animated feature film, and the TV series is scheduled to begin distribution in March, with a new animated series, "Dragon Ball DAIMA," in which Toriyama himself will be involved in the story and settings, scheduled for the fall of 2024.
