The theatrical version of "Mononokai," which is now in production, will be released on July 26, 2024 (Friday), and a second special video and additional cast members have been announced.

Mononokai" aired on Fuji Television's late-night anime slot "Noitamina" in 2007. It is a popular work that ranked high among dozens of works in a fan poll held as a project for the 15th anniversary of "Noitamina". It is also the starting point for director Kenji Nakamura, who has created such unique works as "Flying Trapeze," "C," "Suspension Ball," and "Gatchaman Crows.

Last year, as one of the commemorative projects for the 15th anniversary of the broadcast of "Mononokai," a completely new theatrical project was announced, set in the inner chambers of a grand palace. Animation production is by "EOTA," which unites the production studios of the Twin Engine Group. Within EOTA, there are many creator units of various sizes, and for "Mononokai the Movie," director Kenji Nakamura is leading the team.

It has been announced that "Mononokai the Movie" will be released in theaters nationwide on July 26, 2024 (Friday).
The subtitle of the film indicates that the mono-no-monster that the medicine man will face this time will be "Karagasa", who has faced many monsters in the past, such as "Kakemono" and "Zashiki-doji".

The second special video, released at the same time, begins with a woman's scream and continues with a description of the inner chambers of the house, focusing on the three maidens, Asa (CV: Tomoyo Kurosawa), Kame (CV: Aoi Yuuki), and Utayama (CV: Mami Koyama). The final scene shows the medicine seller confronting the mononoke, a monster born from the passions swirling in the inner chambers.
Expectations are high for what kind of story of redemption will be depicted in this film.

Tomoyo Kurosawa will play Asa, a new lady-in-waiting who is trying to improve her career in the inner palace, Aoi Yuki will play Kame, a new lady-in-waiting who is seeking her dream in the inner palace, and Mami Koyama will play Utayama, an Otonenyori (sole director) who reigns at the top of the inner palace.

<Synopsis
Ooku is a special place, a "woman's garden" and an important bureaucracy, where men are forbidden.
Newly recruited maid Asa (Tomoyo Kurosawa) and Kame (Aoi Yuki) enter this place.
Asa is a brilliant and talented woman seeking to advance her career, while Kame is a woman seeking a place in the inner palace, a place she has always longed to be.
From day one, these two opposites are forced to participate in a "ritual" to become part of the group.
Utayama (Mami Koyama), a courtesan, puts the prosperity and perpetuation of the inner chambers first and organizes the ladies' maids, but there is something hidden behind her expressionless face. But behind her expressionless face, she is hiding something.
