MODEROID Mazinger ZEST" plastic model review! A simple structure with a limited number of parts, but an excellent kit with no compromises in terms of proportions, movability, and play value!

Every month, Good Smile Company's MODEROID series releases plastic kits of robots and mecha from old and new anime, movies, and games. Once again, the fan-favorite "Mazinger ZEST" has been added to the lineup.

Mazinger ZEST" is the main character in the comic "Mazinger in Hell," which is serialized on the "Hobby Japan Web" website. The main character, Shiren, wanders into a world where countless Mazinger robots battle it out for survival, and he himself boards Mazinger ZEST and throws himself into a never-ending battle.

Although the full picture has not yet been revealed in the film, with the heat sink not yet equipped and the face guard having a different shape, the "MODEROID Mazinger ZEST" released this time is equipped with a heat sink and the face guard is shaped similarly to that of Mazinger Z. Perhaps this "Mazinger ZEST" will be put to good use in the future. ...... The expectation is high! (I expect that we will be able to see its heroic figure from the March 31st update: ......)

The "MODEROID Mazinger ZEST" has become an exceptional commercialization, with its three-dimensional form being realized prior to its activities in the play. In this issue, we would like to review this kit.

Simple parts configuration maximizes the appeal of Mazinger!

Let's start with the package.

The package depicts Mazinger ZEST in a fierce battle with Mazinger and his friends in the wilderness.

The instruction manual has an illustration on the cover by Kazuya Hoshi, who draws the manga. Cool!

Next, let's take a look at the parts.

I was surprised at the smaller number of runners than I expected. The kit has a fairly simple structure and is easy to build.

Also, some of the parts are under-gated, so the gate marks are as inconspicuous as possible.

These are the colored parts. The face parts are finely color-coded, and the heat sinks on the chest and the rocket punch effect are clear parts painted clear red. The canopy of the hover piler is also painted in clear blue.

Foil stickers. At first glance, the color scheme of Mazinger ZEST looks simple, but in fact, it seems to be color-coded in detail. Use tweezers to carefully apply the stickers.

Of course, this is a snap-fit kit that requires no glue. Just prepare nippers and a knife, and it will be assembled in a snap.

Check out Mazinger assembled straight!

So, I assembled it straight with a crackle.

The Mazinger ZEST has the same fine details and massive body shape as the "Mazinger Z infinity" movie version, giving it the look of a Mazinger updated for the 2025 era.

The heat sink on the chest is made of clear red parts over silver foil stickers on the base parts, which reflect light.

The black parts have a beautiful glossy finish. On the other hand, the gray parts are made of silver metallic material and emit a dull shine. The power of the figure is truly an "iron castle!

The back is as shown here. On the back, there is a square hole of unknown purpose. ...... We are looking forward to seeing more variations in the future.

The arms are movable as shown here. The arms can be raised straight up, and can also be raised horizontally. The elbows can be bent 90 degrees and can also be rotated in a roll.

The chest is movable, and the chest can be turned up or down. The abdomen also has a roll axis that allows the upper body to rotate widely.

Combined with this upper body movement, ......

Breast Fire! pose is just like this. This is Mazinger no matter how you look at it!

Next, let's take a look at the movable lower body.

The knees are double-jointed and can be bent to a large extent. The hip joints are also very movable, allowing the figure to stand on its knees without difficulty.

If you flip up the skirt part of the waist, you can even sit on your knees.

Hover Piler is a fully transformable and combinable hover piler with no replacements!

Next, let's take a look at the Hover Piler.

Mazinger ZEST's head and hover pileders are detachable.

It's so small. ......

The deformation gimmick is also reproduced perfectly as shown here. Of course, you can dock the head as it is. However, if you put too much force into attaching and detaching it, it may be damaged, so be gentle and careful when playing with the combined figure.

Let's make it fly! Iron fist and rocket punch!

Both the left and right hand parts come in two types: a clenched fist and a flat hand. A total of four hand parts are provided.

There is also a blade that connects to the rocket punch and effect parts for when the rocket punch is fired. With this, the Iron Cutter can be reproduced.

Put the effect parts over the shaft on the rocket punch side.

Connect it again to the two arms to reproduce the action when firing.

Connect the blades to both sides of the arms to reproduce the Iron Cutter.

Combine with effect parts for a double iron cutter! Firing! As you can see, you can see that the play value is quite high. With this many pieces, you can recreate almost any active situation you like, can't you?

So, let's try various poses by combining the movable parts and parts we have introduced so far.

There are 3mm diameter holes on the back and waist. THE Simple Stand" can be connected here.

As shown here, it is possible to make it take a Breast Fire pose from the air toward enemies on the ground.

Mazinger ZEST leaping at you!

Mazinger ZEST confronts a powerful enemy and takes a stance.

It has the strength of a Mazinger, and the stylishness and detail of a 2025 robot. And with the mobility that allows you to reproduce the action you envisioned without difficulty, it's hard to find a kit with such a high level of satisfaction just by assembling it straight out of the box.

Silver paint makes it more massive!

The "MODEROID Mazinger ZEST" is fun enough to assemble as is, but let's make it even cooler by adding a few modifications.

Paint the silver parts with Tamiya Color "Metal Silver". I also used the Gundam Marker Smile Pen to add detail, and at the same time, I attached the remaining stickers. The amount of information of the whole kit has increased at once.

The combination of shiny black parts and glittering silver gives a metallic, more massive impression. To avoid having to repaint the painted face parts, I protected the painted parts with masking tape and spray-painted them all at once.

Iron Cutter!

Iron cutter and iron fist smash the strong enemy!

Breasto ......

Fireooooo!!!"

If you want to assemble it straight, it takes about 2~3 hours. Even with partial painting and smudging, it only takes a day or two to finish this much.

I think you can improve the quality quite a bit with just a little modification, as in this example. However, some weld lines (line-like patterns created when resin is poured) are noticeable on the silver parts, so if you are concerned about them, you may want to file the surface once for a more beautiful paint job.

Because it is simple and easy to make, you can think of various ways to complete it. The price is reasonable, so it may be a good kit for practicing new crafting techniques!

Why don't you give it a try?
