Variable Action 2ndLAP Neon Genesis GPX Cyber Formula Super Aslada 01 ver.2" is thoroughly reviewed by voice actor Yasuyuki Tai [Gifts are also available!

The most robot-loving voice actor in the world of voice acting, Yasuyuki, has been playing around with the latest toy toys in this popular series!

It's been about 10 years since the first "Variable Action Super Aslada 01" was released by MegaHouse, and in 2024, the series has entered its 2nd Lap, which aims for even greater heights!

Taiyuki's Toys & Games Vol. 41 Variable Action 2nd Lap Neon Genesis GPX Cyber Formula Super Aslada 01 ver. 2

So, this time we would like to introduce "Variable Action 2ndLAP Neon Genesis GPX Cyber Formula Super Aslada 01 ver.2".

If you have the first version, please take a look at it until the end.

The package size is the same as the previous series, but the design has been redesigned for the 2nd LAP. ver.2 has a more mature color scheme that exudes a sense of luxury.

The back of the package is filled with information about the product's gimmick. A window in the center allows you to see the main unit in its blister.

Here is the "Circuit Mode" right out of the package. The pedestal is the same shape as the previous series, so you can put them together. Incidentally, the design of the letters is new.

Let's take a closer look at the main Circuit Mode!

You can also remove it from the pedestal and enjoy it as a miniature car that can be rolled around. From here, we will show you the product with the pedestal removed.

Incidentally, this product is not clearly "1/24 scale," but rather "as close to 1/24 scale as possible.

The overall impression is sharp, but it also has a moderately glamorous part, giving it a figure that is both "fast" and "powerful.

The shape of the boost pod at the rear of the machine is also nicely curved, and the slit between the two boost shots seems to be missing.

While the front four wheels are small in diameter, the rear wheels are large in diameter, giving a sense of power. Even in the animation, there was an image of volume at the rear of the machine. This may be the reason why we feel the duality of speed when seen from the front and strength when seen from the rear.

When Hayato Kazami, the driver, suddenly accelerates because he is upset or determined, the angle is often taken from the front. This cut was inspired by such a scene.

The expression on the nose and front wing could be called the face of the Super Asrada.

The rear view, which the rival car, Shinjo Naoki and his team must have seen many times, is amazing with the 6-strand exhaust. The driveshaft and suspension do not move up and down, but are fixed at an angle that shows how they support the weight of the machine.

The underside of the car is also mechanically designed according to the anime setting drawing. The use of different paint glosses is also a nice touch. The structure around the front wheels is futuristic in that it is 6WD in this state (although in reality it is in the past since the year is "2015" in the film).

The front wing air intakes are mesh-like. The tips of each part are also moderately sharp. The finish is glossy and very beautiful. The car number "30" is also designed to match the shape of the wing.

The headlights are well sculpted, even down to the clear yellow covers. The internal mechanical parts are probably painted in silver.

The rally light detail can be seen on the underside of the front wing, although the transformation to rally mode has been omitted this time.

All four front wheels are made of rubber. The suspension arms are painted in fine detail. This is the part that was also detailed in the main anime in the final scene where the car runs through the "Tornado Bank". It is nice to see the attention to detail.

The air intake for cooling the brakes has also been sculpted. The modeling of various parts folded on top of each other is made even easier to recognize by the use of multiple colors.

The air intakes on the side of the machine and the slit in front of the boost pod are sculpted in a mesh shape. The driver's name "H. KAZAMI" is written on the canopy. Behind it is a small "SUGO" mark. In the first Variable Action model, this area was even smaller and the "Sugoh" mark was partially hidden, but this time it looks perfect.

The mirror part is painted silver. The Asrada's machine head can be seen in the clear blue canopy. Parts that look like radar satellites are also visible.

You can see that the white part on the upper side is not flat but has a wavy shape. This shape is designed to enhance downforce, as you can guess.

The "CAUTION" mark can be seen on the area where the ground effect fan is located. This is a relatively clean part, so this kind of marking is effective.

The intake of the block at the end of the rear wing also has a mesh shape. This part is full of gimmicks, such as extending and retracting and replacing the air brake, but it is well integrated into a compact design.

The rear tires are located under the rear wing. Looking into the rear tire, you can see the air intake for the brakes.

Inside the boost pod, this amount of information in the nozzle area! The six exhausts are painted in purple, which is very cool.

The sealing modeling of the base of the driveshaft and the coloring of the surrounding area are also well thought out.

One of the key points of ver. 2 is the steering gimmick for the front wheels. The direction of each wheel can be adjusted one at a time. There is no click in the steering wheel, but it is moderately stiff, so it is not difficult to adjust the direction of the wheels.

The ground effect fan can of course be deployed. Naturally, it is painted in fine detail.

The back side of the effect fan has also evolved from the first generation. Inside the slit, there is another slit-like part peeking out. Amazing.

I thought that the effect fan was originally used to create downforce, but in Cyber Formula, it is more often used to run on one wheel rather than for downforce.

Of course, both left and right sides can be deployed.

In the later OP video, there was a scene where it changes modes while jumping.

Next is the reproduction with the canopy open. First, remove the nose, canopy, and the upper part of the canopy.

The nose is divided into three parts as you can see. The left and right parts are used. Attach the joint parts shown in the lower right corner of the image to it.

Insert the nose parts with the joint parts attached into the square holes on both sides of the cockpit.

Insert the canopy joint into the narrow groove on the joint.

Finally, attach the parts on the cockpit to complete the model. The canopy part is one of the most impressive conditions as there were scenes where it was open before boarding and after taking the checkers.

The joint parts are not noticeable when viewed from the rear, and have been reproduced in a natural way.

If the canopy can be opened, the cockpit interior cannot be left out. The cyber system is color-coded in three different colors, and there is also a speed display panel. The seat area has also been faithfully reproduced. Even the red lines on the seatbelts have been painted. The booth levers are also sculpted and painted in three dimensions. There is also a terminal.

Even the machine head of the Asrada, which is only the size of a baby's pinky fingernail, has been painted.

On the left side of the seat, the mode change lever and effect fan operation lever can be seen. It is perfect to reproduce this much in such a small size.

Now it's time to get to work,

Boost On!

The boost pod can be pulled out and deployed. The air intakes also have a mesh-like shape. The inside of the air intake is painted with red lines.

The rear wing extends outward together with the boost pods, creating a more powerful silhouette.

The rear view also gives the impression of being even wilder. In the 10th WGPX, Randall was astonished at Hayato's strength while looking at this figure up close at the tornado bank.

In order to reproduce as much as possible the boost pod, which was produced quite huge in the animation, it is designed to be massive in a way that is just barely enough to not ruin the style.

Even the inside of the telescopic part has been sculpted and painted.

Here is a shot of the Super Asrada running at high speed in front of my eyes. It looks more powerful with the naked eye than it does in the photo!

Aero mode is characterized by its beautiful body line!

Next is the transformation to aero mode.

Remove the front wing and nose.

Attach the front wing for Aero mode. The shape includes the shape of the nose part that has been deployed.

Expand the ground effect fan part a little.

Shrink the rear wing.

Lower the wing so that it covers the rear tires, and the aero mode is completed.

The shape of the front part has been transformed and the impression has changed greatly. I believe that this transformation setting of the front part is now close to "invention. By covering the tires, aerodynamic drag is reduced, and the form, which emphasizes high-speed driving, is embodied to an excellent degree.

The steering wheel is movable even in this form. The clearance is slightly tighter than in circuit mode.

The newly exposed headlight area also has a clear yellow cover and light modeling inside it. The blue and white wings can be reproduced in a clean surface, which is a strength of the replacement parts. With an emphasis on image, the white wing part is arranged with a larger area than the one in circuit mode.

The compact rear wing also has a less wild image and gives a sleek impression.

The mirrors are painted silver. The impression of the front area when viewed from the rear has also changed considerably.

The rear wing has a gimmick to reproduce the air brake. First, remove the side panels and part of the top surface of the rear wing.

Insert the deployed wing parts into the panel to recreate the air brake. Some parts are thin, so please be careful when attaching them.

It is easier to see from the back. The modeling and painting of the deployed inside is also noteworthy. This part was also reproduced in the first Variable Action, but I felt that it is more firmly fixed in ver. 2.

Of course, both the left and right sides can be reproduced in their deployed state. The canopy can be deployed during full braking.

Canopy deployment can be reproduced in aero mode.

Attach the joint parts to the front wing for aero mode.

Attach the canopy to the joint and the reproduction is complete.

Incidentally, the underside of the front wing for the Aero mode also has a sculpture of the light for the Rally mode.

Comparison with the first "Variable Action" version (right side). The white may have faded a bit since it has been on display at home for 10 years since its release. The blue and red colors are a little darker than the first version, but the ver. 2 looks more powerful because of this.

Incidentally, since ver. 2 is "as close to 1/24 as possible" in scale, the body is slightly larger than the first generation.

Looking at the modeling and painting so far, it is clear that this size was necessary at the very least in order to pack in everything that needed to be done except for "complete transformation. I think this is an excellent decision.

This is a comparison with the "Variable Action Hi-Spec" version (right side). The coloring of the 2nd LAP is more contrasty.

MegaHouse has also released other series such as "Variable Action Kit" and "Cyber Formula Collection". If we include other manufacturers, there are plastic models, plush toys, and of course, plastic kits and finished toys from Takara (now Takara Tomy) at that time. Also, many three-dimensional objects such as garage kits have been produced for the "Super Asrada 01".

The "Super Asrada 01" continues to attract many fans, and the best items of that era have always appeared. The "2nd Lap Neon Genesis GPX Cyber Formula Super Asrada 01 ver. 2" is one of the best items of the "Super Asrada 01" in the year 2024. We hope you will pick it up and experience the "best" of the present.

And the development of "Neon Genesis GPX Cyber Formula" sculptures continues! The "Variable Action Hi-SPEC UNITED Neon Genesis GPX Cyber Formula Super Aslada 01" is currently being planned under the "threeMega" brand, a collaboration between MegaHouse and threezero!

The "Aslada G.S.X" from the same series, which has already been released, surprised us with its meticulous modeling and electric gimmicks, and this time, "electric," "voice," "music," and "sound effect" gimmicks will be implemented.

Although its release is still some time away, this is an item that should not be missed, along with the future development of "Variable Action 2nd LAP".

Let's look forward to further news! (I wonder if you would allow me to review it?)
