In the fall of 2021, a new brand "MPG" was announced by Takara Tomy, and "Trainbot Shoki" was released in the early summer of the following year. Approximately two years have passed since then ....... With the release of Trainbot Kaen, the six Trainbots that appeared in "Transformers The Headmasters" are now complete!

Originally released in 1980 as part of the "Diaclone" series, the original Trainbot toys are still very popular, and there have been many requests for a remake or reissue of the original Trainbot. I was surprised to see that this will be revived under the new Masterpiece brand "MPG". ...... We feel that Takara Tomy is serious about this product.

In this review, we will introduce Trainbot Kaen, who served as the guardian of the six Trainbots, and since we were able to borrow the TakaraTomy Mall limited edition "Trainbot Kaen/Reiden Box," we will also introduce the contents of that box as well.

This is the box of "Leiden BOX".

The design features a newly drawn illustration of Trainbot Raiden with a picture of six Trainbots in the center. If you think you have seen this somewhere before, you are a perceptive person. This is in keeping with the packaging design of the toys released at the time.

At the top and bottom of the box are photos of the six Trainbots in a coupled configuration, their contents, and an example of their display.

The fact that the trains, which normally run on tracks of different rail widths, can be connected together is also a unique Transformer feature. As expected, the total length of the connected trains is very long, so we were not able to photograph the real thing this time. ......

Here is the boxed set: 2 types of "TF Power Base", 4 "Special Display Stands (arms)", 2 "TF Power Base (arms)", and "Light Sword Plated Version for Raiden" in a blister.

And here is the "Trainbot Kaen" standard edition box. It is the common size for Trainbot. The back of the box is filled with explanations about the robot form of Kaen, the DE10 diesel locomotive in vehicle mode, and more.

Kaen itself, rails, light sword for Raiden, joint parts, joint parts for Raiden, train mark for animation, and power laser. And it comes with character cards for Kaen and Raiden, and an instruction manual.

Let's start with Kaen's vehicle mode.

Once again, the DE10 diesel locomotive has been reproduced to an extremely high degree of quality, thanks to the cooperation of Tomytec and the JR Group. The coloring, guard bars on the front and rear of the car body, and the modeling of the bogie are all truly a sight to behold.

The letters on the side of the driver's seat are printed with tampo. Clear parts are used for the driver's window.

The asymmetrical silhouette is also attractive.

Please take a look at the fine detail! You may wonder if this is really a transformable toy, but this is one of the masterpieces of the masterpiece.

The leading part of the car can also be fitted with a plate-like part to recreate the animated version.

If you look closely, you can see that the lights and other parts have been painted in great detail.

The car can also be displayed on the included conventional rails. It can also be enjoyed as a model train.

The window frame of the driver's seat is also very finely painted and structured! You can clearly see the letters "DE10 1573".

Comparison with the Diaclone version. This model is also well reproduced within the price and size of the time. I think this is one of the reasons why "Diaclone" and "Transformers" have been so popular for so long.

The original products were also deformed, and the atmosphere was reproduced as much as possible within their size, but as one would expect from Masterpiece. In this product, all the modeling that existed on the actual car has been perfectly reproduced.

The rear end of the vehicle transforms into the legs when in robot mode, so the toe modeling is present on the then-piece.

This time, we were able to reproduce the guard bar because it is the same size as the HO gauge.

The presence or absence of white lines is also a big difference. When I was a child playing with the products at the time, I thought there was a chimney at the front of the car, but when I thought about it, that would make it impossible to drive the car.

You will notice that the parts for the animation on the front of the car originate from the shape of the then-packaged toy.

Here are the Trainbots that have been released so far, lined up in vehicle mode. In the anime play, they were all depicted as about the same size, but in the actual vehicles, the sizes are so different!

The upper row in the image is the MPG, and the lower row is the product at the time. It is shocking to see that even with such a difference in size, the MPG is able to combine six vehicles!

The modeling of the power laser has also been updated based on the product of the time.

It can also be split and transformed to be mounted in vehicle form. To mount it, it needs to be transformed halfway into robot mode, so we will show you where it is stored in the photos that follow during the transformation process.

To install the joint parts, unfold the underside of the rear of the vehicle body and attach them.

The attached joints can be inserted into the TF power base (arm) included in the "Raiden Box" to recreate the flying state using rails.

With just one box of Leiden Boxes, all six vehicles can be lined up in a flying state. It is a very dreamy picture.

Transforming into robot form!

Now, Kaen, let's transform it.

Transform!

First, expand the driver's seat to the side and lift the front carriage forward.

The front end of the vehicle is lifted up and the rear carriage is also deployed.

The barrel portion of the power laser can be stored inside the deployed vehicle.

The base of the power laser can be stored between the wheels. The vehicle can be returned to vehicle mode here.

The vehicle's main body part, which was extended from the front and rear, can be deformed to form both legs. Transform the driver's seat part to form the chest.

The body deformation is completed by raising the head from the driver's seat.

Transform the vehicle tip extending backward to form both arms and the back unit.

Adhere to the body and extend the elbows and wrists to complete the deformation.

Cybertronian Heavy Mobile Combatant Kaen, robot mode is complete! The rugged and powerful form of the figure gives it a "heavy mobile combatant" look.

Kaen's backpack has been well reproduced with skillful deformation.

Comparison with the Diaclone version. I think it is arranged in high detail and well put together.

Not only the backpack, but also the plate-like parts behind the waist, which is a characteristic part of Kaen, are also reproduced.
