The film is based on Motoo Nakanishi's popular novel "Onin Gentosho" (Futaba Bunko). The year is 1840. In a world where people's minds were disturbed by a great famine, demons disguised themselves as human beings and began to play tricks on people for fun. In the mountain village of Kadono, far from the city of Edo. In this village lived a brother and sister named Jinta and Suzune. They were strangers who came to Kadono when they were young for one reason or another, but they were accepted by everyone and spent their days together in harmony.
