Signed Poster Giveaway! Spring Anime "Shinkarion Change the World" Interview with Yosai Ishibashi (Taisei Ohnari) and Kanba Tsuchiya (Ryota Kutouryu)!
The latest in the "Shinkarion" series, "Shinkarion Change the World," began broadcasting its TV anime this past April. With a new worldview different from the previous series, the main character Taisei Taisei and other characters, the transformation and merging of the Shinkarion, and a storyline that is still unpredictable, it has attracted a lot of attention.
Following the interview with Chief Producer Hisahiro Suzuki in the previous issue, this time we interviewed the main cast members, Yosai Ishibashi (playing Taisei Taisei Ohsei) and Jinba Tsuchiya (playing Ryota Kutouryu). They spoke passionately not only about the characters they play, but also about the Shinkarion they drive and its various transformations and combinations.

Interview with Suzuki Hisahiro, Chief Producer
I was very excited to see the vivid depiction of the transformation scenes.
--In the first and second episodes, the process of Taisei becoming the driver of "Shinkarion E5 Hayabusa" was depicted, and there was also his first battle with the Unknown. First of all, please tell us about your impressions of the show.
Ishibashi: I have loved Shinkansen and trains since I was a child, and I also loved robot anime, so when I saw the robot that the character I was playing was riding, I thought, "Gashan! Gushan! And the joint also clanks! And the joints clink! I was very excited when I saw the scene where the robot I was playing was attached to the joint during postrecording.
Tsuchiya: During post recording, we often record while looking at unfinished footage, but from the first episode with the transformation scene, the transformation from the bullet train to Shinkarion was in full color, with effects.
Ishibashi: That's right. It's really a robot because it's not a simple transformation, and the parts of the arms and torso that attach to each other are also clearly depicted! It's so cool! I'm going to defeat the enemy from now on! It made me feel like I had to work even harder.
Tsuchiya: I love heroes and have watched all kinds of heroes growing up, but surprisingly I had never seen a robot anime. Probably because I was asleep at the time of broadcast (laughs).
But when I saw Shinkarion again, it was really cool, and I got goosebumps during the recording. Regardless of sales promotion or anything else (laughs), I really wanted to play with the toy from the bottom of my heart. I wanted to transform and combine the vehicles with my own hands, and I wanted to put the transformed/combined models in front of my eyes. I also felt that everyone on the production staff loved the robot Shinkarion itself.
Ishibashi: You can really feel the love.
--I'm looking forward to seeing the three-car combined "Shinkarion SRG" as well.
Ishibashi: I hadn't been informed of the details of the three-car combination (at the time of the interview), and I saw it for the first time in a TV commercial. It was really cool! I think that the bigger and more bulky a robot gets, the cooler it is (laughs), so I am looking forward to seeing how the three-car combination will be involved in the story in the future.
Talking passionately about Shinkarion, the combination, and weapons
--The plastic rails have already been released, but can you tell us about your impressions of the form of the "Shinkarion" that each of them drives, the vehicle combination, and the weapons, and what are the main points of interest?
Ishibashi: First of all, what I want people to pay attention to is the fact that unlike the previous series, it transforms in a single car (the lead car). The previous Shinkarion models were very stylish and cool, but this time, since it transforms as a single vehicle, its legs are slimmer, and I think it has a more robot-like appearance. Moreover, the vehicle combines with the car. Even the description on the back of the plastic rail box describes the performance like "speed" and "strength," and all three of them have different functionalities and roles. I felt it was very well done.
Then there is the face. The head parts are all different, and if you like robots, you'll be excited to see how cool they are.
Shinkarion E5 Hayabusa (left) and Shinkarion E5 Hayabusa Trailer Form
--The "Shinkarion E5 Hayabusa" and the "Shinkarion E5 Hayabusa Trailer Form" combine with the Elda Trailer to form the "Shinkarion E5 Hayabusa Trailer Form.
Ishibashi: Taisei was able to drive without any training, so I think the shield (rear car shield) plays a very important role. It is good to use the trailer wing to increase mobility, but it is impossible to fight without defense as well as offense, and I think that the shield makes the driver feel safe and secure. I think the shield makes the fight more secure. That's why it is the most suitable vehicle combination for Taisei.
Even if Taisei used the gun (kintai gun) of the "Shinkarion E6 Komachi Top Lifter Form" driven by Akane (CV. Kensho Ono), I don't think he would hit it (laughs). (Laughs) That is why I think the royal style of using a shield and a sword (Rikusou Saber) is the most suitable for Taisei. The shield makes me feel very comfortable when I play the role of Taisei.
Tsuchiya I like the fact that the trailer wings on the shoulders are the same color as the sword, azalea pink.
Ishibashi: That's right. The pink line of the Shinkansen E5 Series Hayabusa is azalea pink, and the fact that the wings and sword are shining in the exact same color of the Hayabusa is a real attention to detail.
Tsuchiya: When I first saw it, I thought it was too cool. I thought, "Hayabusa has grown feathers! I thought "Hayabusa has grown wings!
Ishibashi: Well, this trailer wing is also very active, so it is one of the points I want you to pay attention to.
--How did you feel when you saw "Shinkarion E7 Kagayaki" with Ryota on board? Personally, "Shinkarion E7 Kagayaki Drill Form" also makes my heart dance.
Tsuchiya: When I auditioned, I didn't really check the "Shinkarion" that the character would be riding. I thought it didn't have much direct connection to the play, so I didn't go through with it. Then, when I saw the transforming scene of "Shinkarion E7 Kagayaki" during the recording, I thought, "What is that? This is my favorite Shinkansen (Hokuriku Shinkansen)! I thought to myself. My sister (*) was working on a morning drama set in Ishikawa, so I was really impressed by the stylish Shinkansen.
*My sister is Tao Tsuchiya, who played the main character Nozomi Konya in NHK's TV series "Mare.
I thought, "Could it be that shinkansen? I looked it up and found it was the exact one. It was a blue bullet train with gold lines, which I had always thought was cool, so I thought I had hit the jackpot (laughs). (Laughs.) I'm sure every actor would consider his or her own ride on the Shinkarion a lucky one, but I felt lucky again.
I had a chance to see a stuffed Shinkarion E7 KAGAYAKI at an event at Ueno Station the other day, and it was still super cool. The Shinkansen E7 Series KAGAYAKI runs through the Northern Alps (Hida Mountains), right?
Ishibashi: Yes, it does. Since the Shinkansen runs through the mountains, it is a powerful vehicle that can handle steep gradients.
Tsuchiya When I saw that, I thought that if I could, I would like to see the real thing in motion with a drill. That's how exciting the form is. I was originally a hero as a suit actor, and I hope to someday be able to join in and do a meet and greet. I also have a modest fondness for the chest bumpers.
Ishibashi: That is the light part of the Eldadrill.
Tsuchiya I was wondering if something would shoot out from here (laughs). The significance of Ryota wielding the drill (twin Kusakudrill), or rather, the meaning of equipping the drill, is also exquisitely related to the story. If you see the story, you will become more attached to this form.
Shinkarion E7 Kagayaki (left) and Shinkarion E7 Kagayaki Drill Form
--When I talk about and look at Shinkarion again, it really makes me want to have a plastic rail or other three-dimensional object, doesn't it?
Ishibashi: I would love to have everyone pick one up.
Tsuchiya Let's play together!
Taisei changes when talking about trains & Lyota is a balancer
--I would like to ask you about the characters you will be playing. What is your impression of each of them and what do you sympathize with them?
Ishibashi: Taisei is a bit shy and doesn't want to make advances on his own, but there is only one moment when he speaks cheerfully and clearly. That is when he talks about trains. He speaks so clearly and so clearly as if he has changed into a different person that it was interesting to watch him change when I was playing him.
I also love trains so much that I take pictures whenever I see a bullet train, so I think we are similar. I heard that when he was interviewed by other people, he became very talkative only when talking about trains (laugh).
Tsuchiya: My first impression of Lyota was that he was an energetic boy. After the recording began, the sound director and I worked out what was in her energy, and the key word was "balancer. I think she is a character full of kindness who wants to brighten the atmosphere of the class and community and create a good atmosphere.
I don't have much in common with Ryota (laugh), but I have always wanted to be like him since I was a child, so I really enjoy playing this role.
--(Laughs) I have had the desire to be like Ryota since I was a child, so I am very happy to play this kind of role.
Ishibashi: Yes, it did. We get along well and talk a lot, so I think our acting comes very naturally to each other.
Tsuchiya: I knew Mr. Ishibashi from his other works, so I was really looking forward to recording the first episode. I was really looking forward to the recording of the first episode, and I found him to be very friendly and dependable. I think that Taisei's "gentle but somehow leading spirit, the reason why he is the center of the three" comes out because of Mr. Ishibashi.
--From your point of view, do you feel like Tsuchiya-san is like an older brother? Or is he more like a classmate?
Ishibashi: It's not that we are close in age, but if I say he is my older brother, he is my older brother, and if I think he is my classmate, we are classmates. What do you think of me?
Tsuchiya: I would say that you are my senior. Your personality as an actor is different from mine, and you have a dependable and imposing character who stepped into the world of acting at an early stage. ...... (laugh) (Mr. Ono and Mr. Ishibashi) are both older brothers.
When I heard Mr. Ishibashi's performance of Taisei, I was turned on!
--(laughs) - How do you feel about each other's characters?
Ishibashi: As you said, Ryota is very bright and is a balancer, a person who brings together the members who are full of individuality, so I can rely on him. However, I wonder what he is really thinking in his cheerful attitude. It will be interesting to see if he will be able to open up to Taisei and the other members in the future. Ryota laughs, "Nyahaha! He laughs like this. I would like to see Ryota laughing so hard at least once.
--What do you think of Tsuchiya's acting?
Ishibashi: As soon as I heard "Lyota! I thought, "That's Lyota! Actually, I had auditioned for the role of Lyota, too. But it was clearly more Ryota than the Ryota I played, so I thought, "This is what Ryota is like," and "Tsuchiya-san's performance is the best fit.
I think Ryota is a very difficult role to play. He said that he was not good at acting in battle scenes, but when I saw him talking one-on-one with the sound director and asking questions like, "If Ryota were to fight in this situation, how would he start the fight?
--I was very impressed by his performance, and I think that I can learn a lot from him.
Tsuchiya: I also auditioned for the role of Taisei. However, I felt that I did not show "something oozing" (as Taisei), and as expected, I failed the audition for Taisei. When I heard your Taisei, which I had auditioned for earlier, I thought, "This is it.
Ishibashi: Oh, really?
Tsuchiya: In the audition, there was a dialogue between Taisei and Lyota, and since I was taking both roles, I had to speak both lines. When I said Ryota's lines, I listened to the voice of Taisei by Ishibashi-san, who had taken the role before me. When I heard it, I thought, "This is it already. At that moment, the switch in my head flipped, and I became Ryota even when I should have been Taisei (laughs).
(Laughs.) That kind of phenomenon happens to me from time to time. Even in auditions for other productions, when I was auditioning for multiple roles, I would say the name of the character I thought suited me instead of the name of the character I was supposed to say. ...... That is exactly what happened with Lyota. I think it was the voice of Taisei played by Mr. Ishibashi that flipped the switch for me. Mr. Ishibashi's Taisei was only possible because of Mr. Ishibashi, and I feel that my instincts conformed to that.
-Maybe I was accepted for the role of Ryota because of Mr. Ishibashi.
Tsuchiya: I think that is possible. Mr. Ishibashi's Taisei is crystal clear. Pure might be the word that fits. Of course, he has experienced many things, so he is not pure, but I felt that there is a freshness and coolness that penetrates through him.
Ishibashi: I am embarrassed. I'm embarrassed (laughs).
-I'm looking forward to seeing the characters created in this way. Thank you very much!
