When you are a working adult, you tend to have a lot of plastic models piled up in your busy life. ...... In this series, Yasuyuki Tai, a voice actor who loves robots and plastic models, takes on the challenge of building plastic models on your behalf!

The concept is "Even busy working people can make it this far on weekends and vacations! The only two rules of this article are that the model must be finished as an unassembled model and that you can spend only one or two days to build it! Read this series, and you will surely find the plastic model you want to build.

Taiyuki's Weekend Plastic Model Vol. 97 1/72 scale YF-19 Battroid "Macross Plus

Hasegawa, a plastic model manufacturer famous for its airplane models, has spawned numerous kits after encountering "Macross.

From Hasegawa, the very popular "YF-19" in its battroid form, which appeared in the OVA "Macross Plus," has finally been released in 1/72 scale.

Hasegawa has previously released VF-1 and VF-0 batroid forms, but let's take a look at how Hasegawa, known for its aircraft models, has approached this project.

First, let's start with the unassembled state without decals. No glue is needed for assembly. The parts are excellently divided, and there are almost no joints between the parts. And the proportions are excellent!

Even the fuselage, which shows complex movements when transformed, is easy to assemble because it is a non-transforming model.

The accessories other than the main body of the YF-19 are shown here. The kit can be assembled with or without the fast pack. Depending on how you assemble it, you can enjoy reconfiguring both forms even after completion.

Water-transfer decals are lined with various caution marks and color separations to complement the color scheme.

Clear parts are used for the forehead and goggles portion of the head. There is also detail inside the goggles. The internal mechanism of the neck is also well reproduced.

The chest block where the nose portion of the fighter form is housed. The folded over part is a separate part and has a three-dimensional effect.

Even the nose section, which is almost invisible once assembled, is detailed. It is as expected.

There are also details on the root section of the main wings. In the battroid form, the air intake covers are closed.

The parts configuration of the waist center block is also detailed.

The center part is the main part, and the hexagonal parts attached to the left and right are separate parts.

This is my imagination, but I think that the parts indicated by the red lines cannot be molded if they were to be removed as a single part, so they were made into separate parts in order to reproduce the shape as set.

This is also as expected.

The main wing parts are very realistic with the thickness of plastic that is typical of aircraft models.

The toes are also moderately sharp. The fine details of each part have a delicacy that can only be achieved with a model of this size.

The upper surface of the calf is also detailed. The base of the folded tail fin also has mechanical details.

The slit on the back of the thighs is also open.

The upper back is also detailed as per the settings.

Behind the main thruster in the battroid form, there is a slit detail. The blocky parts on the back are also constructed without unnatural joints, so it is easy to assemble after painting.

The shoulder armor is rather complicated. The thrusters and their surroundings are also finely sculpted.

Clear parts are used for the sensors on the arms. A shield is attached to the left arm. The wrist is also sculpted in a mechanical shape without omission.

Two types of heel parts are provided. This one is a type that focuses on the battroid form with a large ground contact area.

This is a sharply shaped type that reproduces the shape of the vector nozzle in fighter form.

Not only the shape is different, but of course the sole pattern is also different. Choose according to your preference.

The head is connected to the neck part by a ball joint. The base part can swing back and forth.

Laser machine gun on the top of the head is also movable.

Shoulder base can swing back and forth slightly.

Waist can also swing lightly.

Extremely excellent forward and backward leg opening.

The knee joints are double-jointed and can be bent this far. The main wing blocks are also movable at the shaft connection.

Elbows are double-jointed.

Arms can be rolled and rotated under the elbows. Arms can be lifted laterally up to approximately 90 degrees.

The left and right leg openings are made possible by adding a movable part in the middle of the thighs.

Even when the figure is in a free-standing position, a certain amount of posing can be enjoyed.

One of the included "Pinpoint Barrier Punch" effect parts.

The gun pod can be mounted behind the shield by attaching the grip in its retracted state.

You can also have the gun pod by replacing the wrist with a weapon handle. A flat hand is attached to the left hand.

It can also be made to hold with both hands.

Removing the cover part on the underside of the waist exposes a hole for connection. The included stand can be attached here.

It would be nice to intertwine it with the YF-21 Battroid.

Fast Pack attached!

Next, the back of the Fast Pack equipped state. It can be easily reproduced by replacing some parts of the shoulders and legs. At first, we expected that the fast-pack equipped type would be released as a separate kit, but it is now released as a compatible kit!

The shoulder parts are interchangeable with some of the body side parts.

The side parts of the legs replace a part of the armor.

The additional parts of the calf are also reproduced by replacing some of the body side parts.

With decals and simple smear, detail up!

Up to this point, we have introduced the model in its unassembled state with no decals attached.

Usually, in this series, we suggest assembling the model in a weekend, but since there are many water-transfer decals, there is a possibility that the process described in the instruction manual may not be enough for a weekend if you work carefully.

Therefore, this time, we only did a light smear.

The water-transfer decals are a must-see. Even if the decals are not visible when the model is assembled, they are well reproduced for a three-dimensional and realistic effect.

Of course, depending on the person who builds the model, he/she may choose to apply only the large decals and omit the small decals. If you have time, please try to apply all the decals.

Here is a picture of all the decals applied according to the instruction manual with a simple smear. It seems that it will not be difficult to paint the black lines that will be processed by applying the decals. If you have a painting environment, please give it a try.

The details are emphasized by applying the decals, and more precision is expressed.

There are decals to reproduce the color scheme, but each part also contains details that can be used as a guide when painting, so if possible, painting all the parts is also an option.

This is the fast-pack equipped state.

Actually, I failed to apply some of the black line decals, so I retouched some parts with black markers, but by applying a matte finish, they are now completely blended in and the difference is not noticeable.

My first impression upon completion was, "This is a magnificent model! I was very impressed with the model.

The plastic models I have been working with recently have excellent mobility and deformation, and many of them seem to have a high degree of accuracy as assembled movable figures.

However, this kit feels like an "aircraft model in human form. I received a lot of inspiration from this kit, which is full of attention to detail as a plastic model.

Incidentally, this kit is really easy to assemble, and once glued together, it can be moved with more ease. In that respect, it could be said to be a kit for those who are beginners in plastic modeling to improve their skills.

Some people may be uncomfortable with decals, but here's one thing you can do! Why don't you challenge this "kawaii" and become a modeler one step higher?
