Interview with Ayase

─ ─ What was your first impression when you received the offer from "MonHun Now"?
I was very happy. I am a big fan of the "Monster Hunter" series, so I was so happy to be able to work for MonHun that I immediately said "I want to do it.

─ I heard that you read the MonHun strategy book until it was torn to shreds, so please tell us about your thoughts on the work when creating the music for this project. Please tell us about your thoughts on the work when you were creating the music for this project, and any particular points you focused on.
I put many elements of MonHun in the lyrics of this song. Especially for this song, I wanted to overwhelmingly fill it with MonHun love, so I included all the MonHun elements that I thought were interesting.

─ Do you have a "favorite" monster?
I guess the Diablos. It looks like a demon and is very cool. It tickles boys' hearts. The horns and other details are cool, too. There are many other monsters that I like. In particular, I have been playing "Monster Hunter Portable" since the very beginning, so I am very attached to the monsters that have been around since the beginning.

─ ─ Do you have a "favorite" weapon type?

I have always been very fond of the great sword. I like that it has the air of a hero. The twin-sword and lance types are also cool, but I have an image of using the great sword in every series. It's cool, isn't it?
MonHun Now" is a game that can be enjoyed outside, but how was your experience playing "MonHun Now"?
Of course I was looking forward to playing it, and when I actually played it, I was very excited to think that the day had finally come when MonHun could be played on a smartphone with this quality.

─ How did you feel about the real-world hunting in "MonHun Now" compared to the previous MonHun series?
I think that even fans who actually played Monster Hunter on game consoles are all hunters at the moment they are playing, so when it becomes more linked to the real world, it's hard to get out of the MonHun swamp.

─ ─ Do you have any memories of the "Monster Hunter" series?
I am a video game fan, but I have not been exposed to that many games, and I tend to play one series that I like a lot. I first encountered games when I was a child, playing the portable games I mentioned earlier. Up until then, I would play party games with my friends when I was with other people. MonHun was the first game I played with the same level of dedication as I do when I get together with friends, and it was the game that started my gaming life.

─ What was your inspiration for the music?
When I write music, I like the atmosphere of the music to be "nice" or "penetrating," of course, but I also want the listener to feel surprise, excitement, and stimulation, like, "I've never heard this song before. MonHun has been a long-running series, but with each new release, a new system is introduced, and it never gets old, so I think fans and newcomers alike find it incredibly stimulating. I think that the fun of such content that is constantly being updated is something that, as an artist, I try to create music that I never get tired of, or that I never think I will get tired of, and that I want my music to be a series of interesting songs. I think that feeling came from these entertainment experiences.

─ ─ The purpose of "Monster Hunter Now" is to give everyone a chance to go out and explore the real world, while also connecting with other people. Have you had any interesting encounters or experiences while out and about recently?
Well, I worked with Yasutaka Nakata on this song, and Yasutaka is a senior musician who has been very good to me in my personal life, and we often go out for drinks. We had our first meeting to discuss the music for "Monster Hunter Now," or rather, what kind of music we were going to make, over a drink. At that time, he took me to a delicious fugu (blowfish) restaurant. We talked about what kind of song we were going to make while eating the fugu. It was a nice restaurant, but I noticed a sign outside that said, "The restaurant will close at the end of next week. I read it carefully and found that the owner had decided to continue running the store until he was 80 years old. During the time until I turned 80, I really came to love this town, and I have many memories of the regular customers who came here, but since I had decided to stay until I was 80, I am taking this opportunity to close the store. I love this town, and I hope that it will continue to be lively even after I close my store," he wrote in his own handwriting. Imagining the strong feelings of the store owner, we both thought to ourselves, "This place is going to disappear. This episode made me realize that there is a lot of history in the city. I felt that the city is based on people's history.

───Did anything inspire you in the creation of this song?
It is not so much that I came up with the idea from some major new input or stimulus, but rather, since I am not active as a solo singer very often, I made use of my past experiences that I have accumulated in my life and what I have cultivated in myself through YOASOBI and my other activities. I made use of all the experience I have accumulated in the course of my life and the things I have cultivated through YOASOBI and other activities. The other major factor was working with Yasutaka on the theme of "Let's have fun making it, let's have fun doing it.

─ You mentioned that you incorporated many elements of MonHun! Are there any particular parts that you would like people to listen to?
There are some elements of MonHun that I would like people to listen to. For example, the monsters in MonHun, the difficult quests that come with higher hunter rank, and the fact that you can complete quests that you thought were impossible after trying them many times. I wrote the lyrics in the beginning thinking that it would be nice if I could link the idea of overcoming various obstacles in daily life and sometimes failing because you can't overcome them. But as a result, the love for MonHun overflowed, and the song became filled with MonHun elements. I included a lot of elements that MonHun players would understand, such as the monster and the cutting ability, so I hope you will enjoy the whole song.

─ ─ Do you have any words for those who start playing "Monster Hunter Now" because of this song?
Well, of course I want fans of the series to give it a try, and for those who know Monster Hunter but have never played it before, it's easy to get into because it's on a smartphone, and I take full responsibility that it's an interesting game, so please try it and become a hunter. Please try out the world of MonHun and become a hunter.
