The film will be released on October 18, 2024 (Friday).
Director Mark A. Reyes V reveals his extraordinary passion for the robot design in a special video titled "Secrets of the Live-action Version of the Voltes V Mecha Design.
It's not that we weren't allowed to do it, it's that we didn't want to change it. The film has evolved from a two-dimensional animation to a three-dimensional computer graphics! Director Reyes, a Voltes V geek, reveals the secret behind the design of Voltes V and the enemy mecha/beast fighter.
On August 23 (Fri.), distribution of all 40 episodes of the original anime began sequentially on YouTube, and the social networking service has been enjoying both old fans and new viewers alike, with comments of nostalgia for the work, surprise at the fast-paced yet profound storyline from the beginning, and those who were attracted to the characters as they were when the series was first broadcast. The latest release of the film is the first time the film has been shown in theaters.
The recently released video interview with Mark A. Reyes V, director of the "Voltes V Legacy" movie, reveals the secret story behind the creation of the mecha design. Director Reyes, who is one of the most prominent Voltes V geeks in the Philippines, where Voltes V is very popular, and who himself had the passion to make the live-action film a reality, says that he was determined not to change the design of Voltes V from the original cartoon.
It wasn't that I wasn't allowed to change it, but that I didn't want to change it. I wanted to express the image of the anime Voltes V as it was. Of course, we modernized the textures and enhanced the gimmicks of movement, such as fighting, flying, and merging.
As he explains, the film reproduces the design of the original anime, while evolving the details and textures to be acceptable to modern audiences, creating more powerful battle scenes. In fact, the action scenes of Voltes V have been enhanced with the weight of metal and gimmicks for various weapons, giving viewers a realistic sense of the Voltes V that exists in the live-action film.
On the other hand, the Beast Fighter, which is the enemy of VOLTES V, is given elements different from those in the anime. The beast fighters in the original anime are designed to resemble real animals.
He explains this by saying, "That would be OK for the anime, but it would be uncomfortable for the live-action version. We kept the basic parts of the design, but made it scarier and tougher," he said, revealing that he made the change.
Although the approach was different from the design of Voltes V, the basic design of the original anime was retained, and changes unique to this live-action version were made, showing director Reyes' great love for Voltes V. The more powerful Beast Fighter's beam and missile attacks contribute greatly to the breathtakingly powerful battle scenes. The film also includes plenty of battle scenes of the VORTES V and Beast Fighter, which director Reyes designed with extraordinary love! The battle scenes, which are set to background music arranged from the original anime and also used in the film, make you feel as if you can hear the impact of the confrontation between the Vortez V and the Beast Fighter.
