Power City Oita" is a local hero who protects Oita Prefecture!

If you call yourself a local hero fan, it is no exaggeration to say that you must know "Power City Oita," the most famous hero in the west. He first appeared on the scene around 2004, 15 years ago.

Looking back at the tokusatsu situation at that time, not only the three major super heroes such as "Masked Rider Blade," "Special Search Party Dekaranger" and "Ultraman Nexus" were being broadcast on TV, but also "Genshin Justirizer" produced by Toho and Konami, "CASSERN" in the movies, "Devilman," "Queue Man" and "Casshern" in the TV series, and "Power City Oita" in the movies, In the movies, "Casshern," "Devilman," "Cutie Honey," and "Ultraman" were being released. While the world was in the midst of the tokusatsu boom, Power City Oita appeared on the scene in Oita.

Oita Prefecture, Kyushu Region

Located in the northeastern part of the Kyushu region, Oita Prefecture has a population of 1,142,943 (estimated population, October 1, 2018).

The prefectural tree is the bungou ume, the prefectural flower is also the bungou ume, the prefectural bird is the mejiro, and the prefectural capital is Oita City.

Located in the eastern part of Kyushu, the prefecture is dominated by mountains, and the highest peak in the Kyushu mainland, Mt.

Naka-dake, the highest peak in the Kuju mountain range on the main island of Kyushu at 1,791 meters above sea level. Beppu is a very hot prefecture with many famous hot springs such as Beppu Onsen, Yufuin Onsen, Kannawa Onsen, and Nagayu Onsen, as well as the largest amount of geothermal power generation in Japan. Beppu City, where Beppu Onsen is located, has been designated by the government as an International Tourism and Culture City, an area that promotes tourism, culture, and goodwill.

Oita City, the area in which Power City Oita mainly operates, is the prefectural capital and a core city (government-designated city). Tourist attractions include the Takasaki Mountain Nature Park, the Oita Marine Palace Aquarium, and the Oita Art Museum, which offers a panoramic view of Oita City. There is the Oita Sports Park General Stadium, commonly known as "Daigin Dome," and the Oita Trinita soccer team makes this stadium its home.

Regional Pioneer

Power City Oita is one of the reigning pioneers in the local hero world.

Its birth can be traced back to 2004, when an indie hero action team and a circle of independent hero filmmakers met. The two parties hit it off and decided to create a hero that could operate freely in their hometown of Oita, and this project was born.

At the time of the start of the project, the term "gochi-chi hero" already existed, but it did not yet refer to a genre of heroes, but rather to heroes who were active in the local area. The "Chojin Neiger" of Akita Prefecture and "Ibariger" of Ibaraki Prefecture, who had been active before the local hero boom, had not yet appeared on the scene. Incidentally, the most active hero at that time was Kagoshima Prefecture's "Rito Senshi Tanegashiman" (remote island squadron).

In such circumstances, the "Power City Oita" team began groping for a new hero image. The design of the hero costume features the letter "O" of Oita on the goggle portion of the mask and the image of the letter "O", the initial letter of Oita, on the signal portion of the chest. The design concept is very smart, and the visuals are very heroic. Today, local products and indigenous customs motifs are a core part of the design of local heroes and have been incorporated into the design to establish a "local hero" image more closely associated with the local community.

In 2004, while commercial heroes were dominating TV and movies nationwide, the "Power City Oita" team was proposing a new image of heroes with the unique essence of the local area.

Power City Oita is able to transform when the super energy body called "Kyodo Eye," which is generated by the "love for Oita" of the people of Oita Prefecture, is possessed by those who work hard for the good of Oita.

Oita Prefecture residents who meet these conditions are qualified to transform into Power City Oita. Those who wish to transform into Power City Oita should move their residence to Oita Prefecture. The host can be young or old, male or female, but after the transformation, the hero persona of a passionate man who loves the people and nature of Oita and speaks in the Oita dialect will come to the fore. By the way, Power City Oita's favorite food is toriten.

Hero League Infinity

Power City Oita's activities to protect the peace of people in Oita and other areas inspired other regions to create new local heroes in neighboring prefectures.

The influence of Power City Oita's activities on the creation of heroes is countless, including the birth of a hero modeled after Power City Oita, and heroes who became apprentices of Power City Oita and are now active in various areas of Japan.

In 2007, the "Kyushu Local Hero Festa 2007 in OITA" was held in Oita Prefecture, an event that brought together local heroes active in Kyushu. Nowadays, there are many events where local heroes gather to fight a big evil, but at that time, this kind of crossover was still very innovative.

Around 2009, local heroes began to gather at events all over the country.

Power City Oita, whose activities were already well known throughout Japan at the time, appeared in "Hachimantai Dynamite," an event led by Iwate Prefecture's "Ganjugoshin Hachiman Tyler. The heroes who appeared at this event formed Japan's first local hero team, "Hero League Infinity," and Power City Oita will be one of them. Yes, just like Marvel Comics' Avengers and DC Comics' Justice League, a team of heroes from different regions was born. It's exciting!

However, the only time all the member heroes of the Hero League Infinity have gathered together was at an event held in Akihabara in 2011 for the recovery from the earthquake and tsunami. We hope to see all the heroes together again someday.

Power City Oita, which pioneered the genre of local heroes, is still active today, fighting alongside the new generation of heroes and serving as a good senior citizen of heroes. He is immensely popular with old and new fans alike.
