Mobile Suit Gundam: Senko no Hathaway," comment from Yoshiyuki Tomino, author of the original work, arrives!

The long-awaited film adaptation of "Mobile Suit Gundam: Senko no Hathaway," the forbidden legacy of "Tomino Gundam," has been decided by a team of splendid STAFF, and comments from the original author, Yoshiyuki Tomino, have been released.

Based on the novel of the same title published in 1989 by Yoshiyuki Tomino, the director and creator of Gundam, "Mobile Suit Gundam: Senko no Hathaway" is a new animated feature film trilogy scheduled for release next winter or later.

The original author, Yoshiyuki Tomino, has commented on the film adaptation.

Comment from Yoshiyuki Tomino, the author of the original story

I have high expectations for the film adaptation.

As the author of the novels I wrote almost 30 years ago, I am very happy that they are being made into a movie. I was surprised that it would be a trilogy.
When I heard from the people involved in the production that the theme of the film was judged to be necessary in this day and age, I checked the contents again. I was stunned again.
The real world is not progressing, it may be regressing. So, thanks to the path that Gundam fans have led me down, today I know that the theme of this work has a meaning that confronts reality.
In that sense, I can only thank all of you who have led this series.
At the same time, I imagine that each and every one of you also hopes that the next generation will develop the solutions that are the hope of the message of this work.
In other words, I imagine that the generation of Gundam fans who have grown up may have entrusted this work with their message because they are aware that the power of the fans alone was not enough to break through the sense of stagnation and regression of realism.
I do not believe that animated films need to be realistic, but if they are to be presented in the public arena of film, I believe that they should at least resonate with a wide range of younger audiences.
I believe that as the generation of filmmakers gets younger, and as the audience gets even younger, the next younger generation will pave the way for a new type of human innovation. I believe that this will be the path to human innovation - the Newtype - someday.
