Tomy Arts has launched "The Showa Series," a series of retro-modern miniature home appliance gadgets that allow users to enjoy modern content with the nostalgic visuals of Showa home appliances!

As the first release, three models will go on sale on February 28, 2019: the Showa Smarato Television, based on the motif of a Showa-era furniture-style TV; the Showa Record Speaker, a record player-style Bluetooth speaker; and the Showa Mini Boombox, which can listen to the radio and record to cassette tape. They will go on sale on Thursday, February 28.

Showa Sumaato Television

The "Showa Sumaattelevision" is an item that allows users to recreate the "Showa-era TV experience" using a smartphone. Up to five URLs of video sites, etc., are registered on a dedicated application installed in the smartphone. Remove the back cover of the unit, place the smartphone in the unit, set the screen size, and enjoy videos in retro Showa-era picture quality. The five pre-set videos can be switched using the "golden dial" on the right side of the main unit. The "clunk" operation can also be enjoyed to your heart's content.

In addition, four different video playback modes are provided. Depending on the room and your mood, you can select your favorite picture quality: "black and white," "color (old, 1960s style)," "color (new, 1980s style)," or "digital terrestrial. In addition, the "sandstorm hand vibration repair method" is employed, and if a sandstorm appears during playback, the user can fix it by "tapping the top surface of the TV with the hand" (sandstorms can be fixed by "tapping the top surface of the TV with the hand"). (Sandstorms occur in all three modes except "Digital Terrestrial").

(Sandstorms occur in three modes other than "terrestrial digital" mode.) Please enjoy this little Showa on your table or desk.
