Interview] First, a sigh of relief in 2019. Suzuko Mimori's mini-album "holiday mode" is a peaceful one
Suzuko Mimori is releasing her 7-track mini-album "holiday mode." 2018 marks the 5th anniversary of her artist debut, and she has been very active with her albums and tours. She also worked as a member of several voice acting units, attracting many fans. Beyond that, 2019 started with a dusty work on the theme of "holiday," including a song dedicated to "Milky Holmes," which celebrated its final live performance in January, making this album one that fans will be interested in!
As the title suggests, this mini-album is about "holidays"!
─ You were very active in 2018, both as an artist and a voice actor.
Mimori: In our 5th anniversary year, we released the album "tone." We also had the "five tones" live performance, so it wasn't exactly a break, but it was a year to sum up everything I've done as an artist. It was a challenge for me to cut down the story-like structure that I had used in the past and present only singing and dancing, but I felt that I was able to do it because I have been doing it for 5 years. I wanted people to see more and more of my singing and dancing! I wanted to see more and more singing and dancing!
─ ─ For you, is it easier to do a live performance that is tailored to a story?
Mimori: I think it suits me better. But "five tones" also had the concept of opening five doors and presenting me in five different tones, so I was able to sing a variety of songs. It was a free and spontaneous live performance.
─ You also performed on stage as a voice actor unit, didn't you?
Mimori: My encounter with "Girls☆Geki Revue Starlight" was a big one for me. The stage had already started in 2017, but when the TV anime started, the response was very different, and the anime made us members realize anew that this was the kind of work that we had been working on. I was happy that we were able to make use of what we have cultivated so far in this work.
─ While the "Revue Starlight" stage continues, "Milky Holmes" has reached its final live performance.
Mimori: We announced the 2019 final live on February 3 last year, exactly one year ago (this interview took place on February 4), and it was hard before and after the announcement. We ourselves had been somewhat aware of it since 2017 and made the announcement after sorting out our feelings, but since it was the first time our fans had heard about it, some of them were depressed. We are working every day to bring smiles to everyone's faces, but it was really painful to make them feel gloomy. But as the second half of 2018 progressed, when I saw everyone's faces at events and in person, they seemed to be feeling more and more positive. Last year was a year in which I was able to have a lot of contact with Milkyan.
─ ─ "Milky Holmes Final Live Q.E.D." was held on January 28.
Mimori: We were able to end the event with smiles on our faces and those of our fans. 1 year ago it was hard, but I am glad that we were able to take our time and bring the event to the final live.
─ ─ As a solo artist, I feel that you are doing well now that you have passed your 5th anniversary. Your new mini-album "holiday mode" has also turned out to be a cheerful work in the typical Mimori style, hasn't it?
Mimori: As the title suggests, the theme of this mini-album is "holidays. I created it in the hope that it would help people to relax and refresh themselves on their days off, forgetting about the busyness of work, school, and other worries they may have.
───Some of the lyrics include the word "adult" and I wondered if you were also conscious of your own "holiday as an adult".
Mimori: That's right, the first single "I want to see you...! I miss you! I have often sung youthful songs since my debut with my first single "I miss you! I wanted to deliver solo songs that were unique to me at the time, and this time I included songs for adults who are taking a break.
───The jacket photo is neat and clean, and it's a "Roman holiday," isn't it?
Mimori: It's like when you think of holidays (laughs). The first visual image I had in mind was of you camping. Like they are escaping from their daily routine in nature. But I don't camp myself, and I knew I shouldn't lie (laughs). (Laughs) I thought that spending my holidays in the city, visiting fashionable spots that I normally don't go to, would be more in line with my image.
─ Did you actually ride the scooter in the jacket of the limited first edition with BD?
Mimori: No, I was too scared to ride it (laughs). (laughs) But Vespas are cute, aren't they?
──The limited first edition includes a photo book, doesn't it?
Mimori: Yes. It contains many other cuts of the jacket photo. The photo book is full of holiday atmosphere.
