Presenting the BD! Enjoy the flashy action that only 3DCG can deliver! A review of the theatrical anime "Monster Strike The Movie Soranokanata" on Blu-ray & DVD release!

The theatrical anime "Monster Strike The Movie Solano Kanata" was released last fall 2018. This is the second theatrical anime based on XFLAG's game app "Monster Strike". Incidentally, the first one was "Monster Strike the Movie: Hajimari no Shobanoni", in which Maaya Sakamoto played the role of Ren, a young boy, and it was an adventure story with a familiarity that makes you think this might happen tomorrow, like the classic movie "Stand by Me". I have the impression that this work was sympathetic even to those who do not usually watch anime, but this work seemed to me to be more anime-like, that is to say, it emphasized fantasy and flashy action. This is evident in the flashy action scene at the beginning of the film, when the monsters are swallowed by the "Moon Stain.

The story begins with the heroine of the film, Sora (CV. Alice Hirose), falling from the "Old Tokyo" to the "New Tokyo" on the ground as a result of the battle. The story begins with a girl falling from the sky or jumping down from the sky, which is an exciting way to start a boy meets girl story, as you may recall from some of Japan's best-known anime.

The story takes place in Tokyo, where 1/3 of the city was suspended in midair 13 years ago. It is explained in the first half of the film that it was not a disaster, but a consensual division between monsters and humanity. The main character Kanata (CV. Masataka Kubota) does not think well of the monsters and the divided and floating Tokyo, "Old Tokyo," and is distressed to learn that his mother Mana is there and that Mana is a being with both monster and human blood, and that he also has monster blood in him. I think this is the axis of the story. The characters who stand by the protagonist, such as Sora, Touya, and Yuya, also have their own problems, and the development of the latter half of the story, when these problems are revealed, is another highlight of the story.

As mentioned earlier, the "flashy action" is probably the most attractive and important point of this work. The monsters (Sora, Kanata, Touya, Yuna, etc.) that follow Mana, the weaver who seals the "Moon Stain" buried in the ground and the cause of the division of Tokyo, and the Liberation Front led by Senju (CV. Koichi Yamadera) who wishes to break the seal and return to his home. The action between the two camps is a must-see.

The bicycle and dog chase scene after the action scene at the beginning of the film is something that could not have been done in a conventional animated film, and the battle scene after that, in which they fight while smashing up a runaway subway, is a superb action that could only be done with CG. The battle scene in which they fight while smashing up a runaway subway was also superb action that could only have been done with CG.

In the second half of the film, there is a battle with Lagora, a whip-wielding warrior, and a battle with the last boss, Senju. One of the highlights is the appearance of popular characters such as Ryoma Sakamoto, Hanzo, Lucifer, Uriel, Gabriel, Sinbad, Azazel, Hakua, Cain, Lu Bu, Brutus, Devadatta, Judas, and Bastet.

The film is a flow of action scenes that are flashy, cool, and make full use of the advantages of CG animation, while following the changes in the emotions of the characters, leading to the emotional impact at the end. It may be important to read between the lines and imagine the character's feelings by watching the scenes over and over again, but first of all, please enjoy the action scenes on a large screen, preferably at a high volume!
