SEKIRO: SHADOWS DIE TWICE" COUNTDOWN LIVE Photo Report

At the stage event, Yasuhiro Kitao of FromSoftware took the stage first. Mr. Kitao spoke about "SEKIRO: SHADOWS DIE TWICE," saying, "FromSoftware has a strong image of the 'Dark Souls' series and 'Bloodborne' these days, but I think they have two characteristics.

The first is "hard and challenging gameplay. The game is full of dangers such as strong enemies and traps, and players will die until they are on the verge of losing their hearts. When you overcome these difficulties through your own ingenuity and learning, you will feel a very high sense of accomplishment. I think this is the first major feature of the game.

The second is the "dark worldview. We have been aiming to create an immersive worldview by elaborately depicting the world. SEKIRO: SHADOWS DIE TWICE," which we are introducing today, clearly inherits the two characteristics of "hard and challenging gameplay" and "dark worldview. The game is a work that clearly inherits the two characteristics of "hard and challenging gameplay" and "dark worldview. However, while it is a single-player action-adventure title, it is also a title with unprecedented action and systems, as it depicts fierce Shinobi battles set in late Sengoku Period Japan. While maintaining our (FromSoftware's) originality, the tempo of gameplay is different from the past," he said.

Concept (Stage )
The setting of "SEKIRO: SHADOWS DIE TWICE" is Japan at the end of the Warring States Period, exhausted from numerous battles. The game depicts the unique Warring States period, incorporating attractive stages such as "castles connected to the next door" and a wealth of colorful oriental landscapes from ancient Japan.

Although there are no real people or places in the world of this game, From Software has researched what actually existed at the end of the Sengoku Period to create what it calls "From Software's original Sengoku Period.

The "leap of imagination" that is typical of FromSoftware, such as the giant serpent that is a foothold in the atmosphere of the late Sengoku Period, is still present. In addition, almost all maps in this title are seamlessly connected, and the order of attack may change depending on the player from the midpoint of the game.

Concept (Story )
There are two main characters in this work. One is a "Shinobi". One is "Shinobu," also called "Wolf," who is a skilled shinobi, but a very lonely man.

The other main character is a boy called "Goko," who is the master of the shinobi that the player controls. He is born of a special bloodline that puts him in danger. At the beginning of the story, Miko is kidnapped by the enemy "Ashina," and Shinobu loses his life after his left arm is cut off. For some reason, however, the shinobi resurrects and fights to rescue the kidnapped child. The theme of this work is the story of the bond and growth of the lonely master and follower: a skilled but lonely Shinobu and a child who has nothing because of his special bloodline.

Concept (Action )
In order to recreate the fierce battles between skilled shinobi, various actions and systems, including sword fights, have been introduced in this title.

The "sword fight" system, which damages the enemy's torso by repelling attacks with a sword, was demonstrated by From Software's lead game designer, Mr. Yamamura, in a hands-on demonstration.

▲The "Shinobi Prosthetic Hand" replaces the shinobi's left arm, which was cut off early in the story. The "Shinobi Prosthetic Arm" can be equipped with weapons such as shurikens, which are a staple of shinobi, and axes, which break shields. There are also unique prosthetic arm ninja gears, such as spears that expand and contract in an instant and firecrackers that blind enemies with light and smoke.

Another function of the ninja prosthetic hand is the "grappling rope. By hooking onto tree branches or the roofs of buildings, the ninja can move and explore the three-dimensional map in any direction. The "hooked rope" can also be used in a variety of ways, such as for checking enemy positions from a high vantage point, planning which enemy to kill first, and for emergency evasion when surrounded by enemies. In addition, the supernatural power of "regeneration," which allows the player to be revived on the spot only once, even if he or she has died. The timing of resurrection can be chosen by the player, so that even the death of the player can be used to fight, such as by defeating an enemy from behind when he is careless and turns his back on you.

■System (Growth)
The growth system in this title is based on a skill tree system. The player selects the skills he or she wants to learn by consuming skill experience, which is obtained from money and skill experience gained by defeating enemies. There are multiple skill trees available, each with its own unique skills. You can enjoy your own unique role-playing experience by learning new skills, raising parameters that make it harder for enemies to find you, and so on!

■System (Death)
In a situation where the Hirata mansion where Goko lives is attacked by the opposition, Yamamura plays a scene in which he has to rescue Goko from the mansion. The game's unique charms were demonstrated, such as using a grappling rope to avoid the flames that block your way and "eavesdropping" on enemy conversations to gain information.

In the "Dark Souls" series, players had a one-time chance to recover their souls (experience and money) even if they died, but this title employs a "regeneration" system that allows players to revive only once. and money are halved and cannot be recovered. In addition, if the player receives a "Myoujyo," which is a type of assistance from the gods and Buddha that occurs at a certain probability, the skill experience and money will not be reduced even if the player dies after "regenerating. This is also available.

Questions from visitors
There are multiple endings. ▲ "There are multiple endings. It is a multiple ending that changes depending on the player's choices and strategy. There is also a "round-the-clock" play option, and doing certain things in the game will make it "more difficult". This gives you more experience and items, so if you want to enjoy a more challenging experience, we encourage you to give it a try.

The main weapon is a sword called "Kedge Maru," which is given to you by Goko at the beginning of the story, and you will be using it throughout the game. The prosthetic ninja tool on the left arm is something you don't have at first, but you can get it on the road or buy it at the store to make more and more of it. The ninja can modify their prosthetic ninja gear, and there are many variations available, such as a shuriken that at first only throws one shot, but can now become a piercing bullet or a multi-hit weapon. Also, the sword that the Shinobi carry on their backs is called the "Immortal Slayer" and is used in special situations, but there are also situations where it can be used as a weapon in the latter half of the game.

SEKIRO LIVE CHALLENGE "Sokuro Seiken Challenge
Music producer and DJ artist TeddyLoid, who is a big fan of From Software, will take on the boss of the game, the "Monk Breaker," in the SEKIRO LIVE CHALLENGE "One Wolf Live Challenge. TeddyLoid, who has played the "Dark Souls" series and "Bloodborne," was the only one who was able to get close to defeating the monk, but unfortunately died (it was really close...).

Mr. Yamamura took over for TeddyLoid, who narrowly lost the battle, and took revenge on the monk. He was a great player and successfully defeated the monk!
