MBS, which has broadcasted more than 350 works, held "MBS Anime Historia - Heisei -," a major anime event looking back on the Heisei era, on Sunday, March 17, 2019.

MBS, which has broadcasted more than 350 works, will hold "MBS Anime Historia - Heisei -", a "big anime event looking back at the Heisei era" on March 17 (Sun.), 2019. It has been announced that 15 animation works, 15 cast members, and 6 artists will participate in the event, which will featurethe latestMBSanimation works as well as immortal classics. The event was filled with a series of gorgeous surprises, including the king of love songs, Masayuki Suzuki, making his first appearance at an anime event, and Yoko Takahashi from "Neon Genesis Evangelion" making an appearance. The stage was filled with 18 works representing the Heisei era from more than 350 works broadcasted in the past!
In addition to the previously announced 6 works of "Shinkage no Kyojin", "Mobile Suit Gundam 00", "Mobile Suit Gundam SEED", "Black Butler", "SSS.GRIDMAN", "Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion", "Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron Blood Orphans", "Hi-Q? Puella Magi Madoka Magica," "Magi," "Angel Beats!
In addition, Yoko Takahashi from "Neon Genesis Evangelion" transcended the boundaries of broadcasting stations tosing "Gekkaru na Tenshi no Thesis," the most popular hit anime song of the Heisei era and the undeniable No. 1 song on the Karaoke DAM!


◆A total of 20 voice actors from the main casts of the most popular works will be participating in the event!

In addition to the previously announced cast,14 othervoice actorswill make surprise appearances:Takahiro Sakurai, Kengo Kawanishi, Yoshimasa Hosoya, Yuya Hirose, Yume Miyamoto, Akira Ishida,Hiroshi Kamiya, Aoi Yuki, Chiwa Saito, Maaya Sakamoto, Kana Hanazawa, Tsubasa Dainaga, Noriaki Taniyama and Ai Nakajima.
Fourteen voice actors will make surprise appearances! The 20 cast members, far more than the planned 15, including 6 previously announced,added color to the event that concluded the Heisei era.

◆Surprise appearances by numerous artists who have graced the anime productions!
Surprise appearances by FLOW, OxT, BURNOUT SYNDROMES, TOMMY Hiroaki Tominaga, Sid, Lia, GRANRODEO and Ai Nakajima. In addition, Masayuki Suzuki, "a big new artist in the ani-song world," made an unexpected appearance. This was the first appearance at an anime event in his career, and the audience was very excited. After the end roll, Yoko Takahashi made an emergency appearance, bringing the excitement to a climax.


The "MBS Anime Fest" is a dream come true of popular anime broadcasted by MBS.
The event has been held at Osaka-jo Hall and tickets sold out immediately. 10,000 fans gathered at the venue, and at the same time, live viewing was held at movie theaters nationwide, with many anime fans from all over Japan witnessing the excitement of the event.
The MBS Anime Historia - Heisei" was the event presented by the MBS AniFest team to close out the Heisei era.
The event attracted 15,000 people at the venue and 10,000 anime fans at the live viewing held at movie theaters across Japan.


■Manner announcement video

At 17:00, just before the show started, "Manner Announcement Video before the show starts" began to play. This is one of the regular events at MBS Anime Fest.
Mephistopheles (CV: Hiroshi Kamiya) from "Blue Exorcist" broadcast in 2011 taught the audience how to enjoy "MBS Anime Historia - Heisei". The audience was excited by Mephistopheles, a self-proclaimed anime geek, as he made his penlight look like a falling demon sword and practiced call and response, citing "Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion" and "Mobile Suit Gundam 00". The fans' voltage rose even before the show started, and they were ready for the dream performance to begin.


Opening - "Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion

Finally, the countdown began to signal the start of the event: less than 10 seconds to go, the tension in the audience gradually increased, and finally, one second to go. And then, at the moment of zero. MBS Anime Historia Heisei! The announcer was Jun Fukuyama, who played the role of Zero (Lelouch Lamperouge) in "Code Geass Lelouch of the Rebellion" broadcast in 2006.
He then said, "I am Zero. Take my Geass! Let this one-night-only dream performance be etched in your memory forever!" He continued, and the 15,000 anime fans in the audience shouted, "Yes! Your Majesty! Immediately after that, "FLOW," the band that opened the show, made a surprise appearance on stage.


When "COLORS," the opening theme of "Code Geass Lelouch of the Rebellion," started playing, the audience cheered loudly, enjoying the world of the work through sound and images along with famous scenes. After the song, Jun Fukuyama (playing Lelouch Lamperouge) and Takahiro Sakurai (playing Kururugi Suzaku) made a surprise appearance and started the live recording. The audience watched with bated breath as the two best friends and rivals reenacted a tense and famous scene, and the venue was engulfed in a whirlpool of emotion.


Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans" ★Surprise

The roulette to determine the next work was then turned, and a visual of "Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphens," which was broadcast in 2015, appeared on the monitor.
The audience was surprised and delighted by the surprise work.
Kengo Kawanishi (Mikazuki Orgas) and Yoshimasa Hosoya (Olga Itsuka) made a surprise appearance. Three years have passed since the broadcast of this work, but the dialogue between Mikazuki and Olga was so wonderful that one could not feel the passage of time. The stage closed with Olga's famous last line, "Don't stop...don't stop..." The audience was moved to tears by the passionate exchange between the two.


GRIDMAN

GRIDMAN," which was broadcast last year in 2018 and received a great response. Yuya Hirose (played by Yuta Hibiki) and Yume Miyamoto (played by Rokka Houta), who both made surprise appearances, performed a live recording of the entire story in retrospect. The two freshmen, including Miyamoto, the youngest at the event, captivated the audience with their imposing performances.
After the postrecording was finished, a scene involving the New Century Junior High School students, who play an important role in the work, was played, and OxT (Octo), who sang the opening song for the film, made a surprise appearance. The live performance of "UNION," an anthem for Gridman fans, kept the tension of the venue rising despite the early stage of the show.


■DAM Part 1

After the talk part by the voice actors of the three works, the LIVE DAM ranking corner looked back at the anime song ranking of the Heisei era. First, the ranking from No. 30 to No. 21 was announced.
Sugar Song and Bitter Step", the ending song of "Bloodline" sung by "UNISON SQUARE GARDEN" ranked 25th, and "Orion wo nazoru", the opening song of "TIGER&BUNNY", both in TV size, were shown on the screen. The entire audience enjoyed the light and upper numbers, and the venue was filled with a sense of exhilaration.


HIQUE!  ★Surprise

Next, a special artist from the 2014 broadcast of "HIQUE! The next special artist was the three-piece band "BURNOUT SYNDROMES" from "HIQUE! The opening theme "FLY HIGH! with the famous scenes in the background. The stage performance united the artists and the fans, who were filled with anticipation for the upcoming production of a new series of the series.


Mobile Suit Gundam SEED

The roulette wheel was turned and a video of "Mobile Suit Gundam SEED," an MBS animation broadcast in 2002 that cannot be ignored when talking about MBS animation in the Heisei era, was shown on the monitor.
After the opening video of the TV anime finished playing, Soichiro Hoshi (playing Kira Yamato) and secret voice actor Akira Ishida (playing Aslan Zala) appeared on stage.
During the live recording, Aslan's "Next time we fight, I'll shoot you! Kira's "Even so! I have a world to protect! Many of the audience sobbed at the sight of the gorgeous voice actors.


The Giant of Progress

The previously announced "The Progress of the Giants" part, which was broadcast in 2013, began with a scene in which Reiner (Yoshimasa Hosoya) confesses to Eren (Yuki Kaji) that he is an Armored Titan. In addition to Hiroki Kaji playing Eren, who was appearing on stage for the first time at this event, Hosoya, who played Reiner in "Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphens," joined him on stage to re-enact the tense scene.
And speaking of "The Progress of the Colossus" ... it would be impossible to talk about it without mentioning this man. One of the secret voice actors, Hiroshi Kamiya, made a grand entrance. The appearance of Kamiya broke the promise made at MBS anime events that the voice actor in charge of the manner announcement video before the show would not come to the venue. The performance was a complete one, from the scene where Levi and Kenny confront each other to the scene where Kenny expresses his gratitude to Eren and the other 104th term students, and ended with a grand afterglow.


Puella Magi Madoka Magica" ★Surprise

Next, a visual of "Puella Magi Madoka Magica" broadcast in 2011 appeared on the monitor. The secret cast of this work, of course, had not yet been announced, and on stage were Aoi Yuki (playing Madoka Kaname) and Chiwa Saito (playing Homura Akemi), who was making her first appearance at a large-scale MBS anime event.
In order to save Madoka, Homura's only friend, Homura goes back in time as many times as she can. The live dubbing of this famous scene has not left the hearts of the audience even eight years after the broadcast, and the audience watched with bated breath as the two exchanged sad words. The opening song "Connect," with lyrics that could be taken as Homura's sentiments, was performed at the event, just as it was in the TV broadcast, captivating the audience.


JoJo's Bizarre Adventure" ★Surprise

While "Connect," the opening song of "Puella Magi Madoka Magica," was still lingering on stage, a solemn background music started to flow in the venue, and when it was revealed to be "JoJo~Sono Blood no Kimi no Sadame," the opening song of "JoJo's Bizarre Adventure," which was aired in 2012, the audience went wild. The audience went wild at the unexpected appearance of Jojo. A surprise appearance by TOMMY TOMMY Hiroaki Tominaga brought excitement to the audience with his powerful stage performance.


■DAM Ranking (2)

After the talk part by the casts of the three works, it was time for the LIVE DAM ranking.
The ranking of anime songs sung in the Heisei era was reviewed from No.20 to No.11, and the opening song "Preserved Roses" of "Revolutionary Machine Valvrave" which was a hit as a revolutionary collaboration of T.M.Revolution and Nana Mizuki in the history of anime songs, although it was regrettably out of the ranking. The live postrecording began with the exchange between Ciel and Sebastian when they were children, and ended with Sebastian's famous line "Yes, my Lord," in which he pledged his loyalty to Ciel, leaving the audience breathless at the beautiful and solemn atmosphere created by the two.

Magi" ★Surprise

After the live performance of "Sid" was over, Daisuke Ono, Yuki Kaji, Jun Fukuyama, and Takahiro Sakurai gathered on stage as the entire audience was immersed in the afterglow. The audience was excited by the light-hearted dialogue between the four, and the live performance of "Cid" started with the song "V.I.P.", the opening theme of "Magi". Mobile Suit Gundam 00

Finally, the event entered the second half.

Standing next to him was Yuichi Nakamura (playing Graham Acre), who had been announced as a voice actor but whose work had been kept under wraps. The audience was excited to see the reprise of the confrontation scene between Setsuna and Graham, and the audience applauded the most passionate confrontation scene of the event between Miyano, who spoke out for the eradication of war, and Nakamura, who passionately played his fiercely determined foe.

MBS anime events are known for their many surprises, and one of the fun parts of the event is predicting in advance what works will appear.
One of the most enduring original anime works in the Heisei anime world, "Angel Beats!
It had been about 10 years since an event related to the work had been held, and when a visual of the work was projected on the monitor, the surprise turned into loud cheers.
Taking the stage for the live recording was Hiroshi Kamiya, who plays the main character Yugen Otonashi.
This was a surprise appearance by Kana Hanazawa as Kanade Tachika, the angel.
The audience could be heard sobbing as the two gave overwhelming performances in the video that spun the sad and moving final episode. Kamiya and Hanazawa bowed and left, and the audience began to hear a beautiful piano intro.
Surprise artist Lia appeared on stagetoperform the opening song "My Soul, Your Beats!


DAM Ranking (3)

The next Live DAM ranking was from No. 10 to No. 4.
The number 10 was "Melissa" by Porno Graffitty, the opening song of "Fullmetal Alchemist.
And ranked at No. 8 was"Rewrite" byASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION, the opening song of the same movie.The venue's heat level continued to rise further with the fast-paced, nostalgic music.


Kuroko's Basketball" ★Surprise

Next, a visual of "Kuroko no Basket" aired in 2012 appeared on the monitor.
A digest video was shown, and GRANRODEO appeared on stage to yellow cheers.
The voltage of the venue rose explosively as they performed the opening song "Can Do" along with the powerful animation images that have never faded.


Big Swinging"
★Surprise

Next was "Okiku Furikabutte," another surprise work that was broadcast in 2007.
In addition to the two main actors, Tsubasa Dainaga (playing Ren Mitsuhashi) and Yuichi Nakamura (playing Takaya Abe), who made a surprise appearance, Jun Fukuyama (playing Kosuke Izumi) and Noriaki Taniyama, who had just performed live in the "Kuroko no Basketball" part, now appeared as voice actor Noriaki Taniyama (playing Azusa Hanai). The fresh Nishiura High School members were played by voice actors who have now become talented actors, and the stage was like a precious reunion of the Nishiura High School baseball club. After the post-recording, "Dramatic" was played along with the opening video, and the cast members threw autograph balls into the audience with bazookas, bringing the one-night-only coming-of-age experience of the Nishiura Nine to a grand conclusion.


Kaguya-sama ga Sesshirasai ~Tensai-tachi no Koi Toukou Brain~

Next, the words "big new artists in the anisong world" appeared on the monitor.
The audience was in an uproar for a while. Then, to the surprise of everyone, Masayuki Suzuki appeared.
Known as the king of love songs,this was his first appearance at an anime event inhis 39-year career as an artist.
Following "Love Dramatic," the opening song of "Kaguya-sama ga Kesshirasai: Tensai-tachi no Koi Toukashin" (I Want to Tell You Who I Am: Love Brains of Geniuses)," Suzukigave an impassioned performance of a special version of "Megumi no Hito" that included a video collaboration with "Kaguya-sama wa Kesshirasai" (I Want to Tell You Who I Am).


Macross F"
★Surprise

The "Macross F" part was again lined up as a surprise.
This work, which was broadcast in 2008, is a combination of the three familiar elements of the "Macross" series: "song," "variable fighter," and "love triangle. It is an anime work that became a big hit by mixing three elements familiar from the "Macross series": "song," "variable fighters," and "love triangle.

The live recording began with a monologue by Meliodas, played by Hiroki Kaji, followed by famous scenes of Diane, played by Aoi Yuki, and King, played by Jun Fukuyama. The audience was enveloped in a warm atmosphere, and at the end, the three performed a powerful scene in which the members of the Deadly Sins team up to defeat the vicious enemy Hendricksen, making the stage a place where the audience could fully enjoy the charm of Deadly Sins, despite the short duration.


The live recording of the anime continued after the stage was over. FLOW x GRANRODEO appeared on stage amidst the excitement of the audience. The venue was filled with cheers as they performed "7-seven" in the best combination.


End Roll - DAM Ranking (4) - Finale

After the talks by the casts of the three works, the 3rd to 1st place of the LIVE DAM ranking was announced. 1st place went to "Gekkaru na Tenshi no Thesis," an immortal song that shines in the history of Heisei anime songs. This event, which looked back at the Heisei era through anime works and anime songs, finally came to an end and the end roll began. Just as it seemed that the show was about to end with a message to the fans who had supported the anime, the background music and warning message that anime fans must have heard at least once came on. The audience was filled with joy at the appearance of the No. 1 song on the Live DAM ranking, transcending the boundaries of broadcasting stations. Yoko Takahashi sang the most sung anime song of the Heisei era, "Zankoku na Tenshi no Thesis," and the audience's excitement reached a climax.


The four-hour-long stage performance finally came to a finale. Once again, the cast members who had taken the stage were all present. After the live performance, each cast member greeted the audience, and at the end, the cast and audience united to call out "MBS," "Anime Historia," and "Heisei" together. As silver tapes released from cannonballs danced around the venue, the curtain closed on MBS Anime Historia - Heisei with applause and cheers from the many fans who had continued to love Heisei anime productions.


The surprises were not over yet.

At the end of the show, an "urgent announcement" was displayed on the monitor, announcing that the TV anime "Flame Firefighters" would be broadcast from July on "Super Animeism," MBS's first late-night nationwide network anime slot.
We can't take our eyes off of MBS anime from now on.
