Fruits Basket" (original story by Natsuki Takaya) is a very popular girls' manga serialized in "Hana to Yume" (Hakusensha) from 1998 to 2006. The manga has sold more than 30 million copies worldwide, and was adapted into an animated TV series on the TV Tokyo network in 2001, with 26 episodes broadcast, followed by a stage adaptation in 2009. In September 2015, a spin-off manga, "Fruits Basket Another," began serialization on the web, with a total of 340,000 copies of the manga in print (two volumes already published). A new TV series is scheduled to start airing in April 2019 on TV Tokyo and other stations.

An "Anime Adaptation Decision Commemoration Event" was held on March 16 (Sat) at the Makuhari International Training Center for this work, which will start airing in April, and the key visual, this PV, opening theme and ending theme were unveiled.

The cast included Maika Ishimi (playing Toru Honda), Nobunaga Shimazaki (playing Yuki Kusama), Yuma Uchida (playing Rene Kusama), Yuichi Nakamura (playing Shikure Kusama), Atsumi Tanazaki (playing Arisa Uoya), and Satomi Sato (playing Saki Hanashima). At the event, the first and second episodes of the main story were screened in advance, and the audience was impressed by the faithful story and newly created characters. At this event, episodes 1 and 2 were previewed prior to the TV anime airing on April 5 (Fri.), and a talk show by the cast was held. Amidst a round of applause, Ms. Mainaka Ishimi (playing Toru Honda), Mr. Nobunaga Shimazaki (playing Yuki Kusama), Mr. Yuma Uchida (playing Rin Kusama), Mr. Yuichi Nakamura (playing Shikou Kusama), Ms. Atsumi Tanazaki (playing Arisa Uoya), and Ms. Satomi Sato (playing Saki Hanashima) took the stage and discussed the highlights of the show and the appeal of the characters.
