The original story of the anime "Oshidai Ninja Rantaro," "Oshidai Ninja Rantaro," has been serialized for 33 years and is finally complete in 65 volumes! A special edition with a booklet commemorating the completion of the book will also be released!
Amago Saubei's book "Ochidai Ninja Rantaro" will conclude with the 65th volume of the book, which will be released on Saturday, November 30, 2019. In addition to the standard edition, a special edition with a 32-page booklet will be released for the final 65th volume.
The 64th volume of "Ochidai Ninja Rantaro" is a slapstick drama involving a group of ninja kids who entered a ninjutsu academy to become first-class ninja. In 1993, an animated series titled "Oshidai Ninja Rantaro" was broadcast on NHK (Japan Broadcasting Corporation) as "Oshidai Ninja Rantaro," and it has also been adapted into a live-action movie, a musical, and many other media mixes.
The serialization of "Rakudai Ninja Rantaro" in the Asahi Shogakusei Shimbun began in April 1986. Since then, the serialization has continued seasonally from April to June and from October to December. However, in January of this year, Mr. Amago suffered a stroke, and the serialization of part 64, which was scheduled to begin in April of this year, was postponed. Ms. Amiko has been working hard on her rehabilitation, but she has decided to end the serialization on her own, saying that it would be difficult to continue the daily serialization.
The series in Asahi Shogakusei Shimbun will end after 33 years of serialization with "Masterpiece Selection," which will be published from today, October 1, to the end of December. Mr. Amago is recovering well and is preparing a new serialization at a pace of once a month starting in April 2020.
The final 65th volume of "Ochidai Ninja Rantaro" will be published in a special edition with a 32-page booklet in addition to the standard edition.
The book will feature a rare trilogy of over 10 pages with Minami Takayama playing Rantaro, Mayumi Tanaka playing Kirimaru, and Sadatomo Ichiryusai playing Shinbeye from the anime "Nintama Rantaro," as well as many behind-the-scenes episodes.
The book will also include messages from the voice actors to Ms. Amago, an introduction of the main characters that have appeared since the official character book published in 2011, and a piece by Ms. Amago titled "Suisaku kuizu" that appeared in the Asahi Shogakusei Shimbun in January of this year.
In addition, the Asahi Shogakusei Shimbun and Asahi Shimbun Publications held a "Rantaro Illustration Contest" to coincide with the end of the serialization and the publication of volume 65. The contest is open to anyone who draws and submits an illustration of a character appearing in the work, and the 65 winners will receive an original prize.
