BEASTARS" is based on the comic of the same title by Tomoe Itagaki, which is serialized in "Weekly Shonen Champion" (Akita Shoten). The original comic won first place in the "Manga Grand Prize 2018," four major manga awards, and numerous other awards. In a world where carnivores and herbivores coexist and meat eating is considered a serious crime, the wolf Legosi meets the dwarf rabbit Hal. He pounces on her, and before he knows it, he has her in both of his arms. Is his desire for her love or lust? Is it lust?" --Discrimination, love, weakness, and hope are depicted in this gem of an animal version of a human drama. Animation production will be handled by Orange of "Jewel Country" fame.

A report on the prayer ceremony for this work held on September 17 (Tuesday) has now arrived. The original author, Tomoe Itagaki, and the cast and staff gathered at Okunitama Shrine in Fuchu on the day of the ceremony.

After praying for the success of the work, an interview was conducted with Tomoe Itagaki and Chikahiro Kobayashi, who plays Legoshi. They shared their thoughts on the work.

<(Mini interview with Tomoe Itagaki, who wrote the original story, and Chikahiro Kobayashi, who plays Legoshi)

--How did you feel when the anime adaptation was decided?

Itagaki: I was very happy, but I couldn't imagine it. I didn't feel that my drawings would be easy to animate, and I was rather worried that it would be difficult to move them. But as the story got more serious, I had higher expectations that you would make a very good one.

--What was your impression of the anime?

Itagaki: I saw the first episode, but it was so shocking that I don't remember much (laughs). I can't really put it into words, but I was so happy that I started laughing in a weird way. I was so happy that I burst into a strange laugh. I was more embarrassed that a voice actor was speaking the words I had thought up, so I laughed a lot.

--What did you think when you read the original comic?

Kobayashi: Before I auditioned for this work, I happened to have a chance to learn about it on the Internet. I saw that there had just been a "food murder" in which Tem was eaten, and I thought it sounded interesting. I thought it was a great opportunity and bought all the books before the audition.

Itagaki Thank you
(laughs).

(laughs)
Kobayashi That's outrageous! I was happy to encounter such an interesting work in any way. It's easy to get into the world, and the characters are all very human, which I think is very nice. The characters' thoughts are very realistic. When you turn to the next page thinking that this is what is going to happen, it is often not the case, and everyone has a deep thoughtfulness that makes you wonder what is going to happen next. So I felt that you must have seen and depicted various aspects of people in your daily life, and that is what attracted me to you.

--What were you conscious of when playing the role of Legosi?

Kobayashi: When I read the script, I tried not to act like an actor. With such a well-developed worldview, I thought it would be good if the people were there and just conversed with each other. So, I was conscious of not deciding on how to say things in advance, but rather going to the scene and interacting with the people around me as I created the script. It was not only me, but I think everyone did the same.

--Is there a character you like or would like people to pay attention to?

Kobayashi: It's hard to pick just one character. ......In the beginning, there is Kai (CV. Nobuhiko Okamoto), a mongoose, and I like his aggressive attitude (laughs). When I was in theater as a student, I was once cast out of a role, and the feelings I had at the time were very realistic! I felt the same way, so I understand exactly what you are going through! I felt that way.

Itagaki I
really like Bill the Bengal tiger (CV: Takaaki Torashima). I think there are many people who can relate to Bill if they were carnivores. I think his hedonism, or the way he struggles to live an easy life, is the closest to the general public, so I want everyone to see this character.

--Lastly, do you have a message for your fans?

Kobayashi Please look forward to the TV anime "BEASTARS"!
Itagaki Please buy the book (laughs).
