Mikaha, the vocalist of the song, was chosen to participate in "CROSSING STORIES," the theme song for Anisama, created by Junichi Sato of fhána. We asked her about her impressions of the recording and her enthusiasm for performing at "Anisama.
Incidentally, Mikaha said, "I better talk about something with substance, right?" and then she would come up with something even more insubstantial.
Q: Since your major label debut last year, Spira Spica has started singing ani-songs again.
Mikiba: We made our major label debut last August with the release of "Start Dash," and what we felt most was that the range of people who were listening to our music had really expanded. Until then, we had mainly performed at live houses, so we did not have many opportunities to be seen by small children. Gundam Build Divers" is a work that can be enjoyed by children and adults alike, so we were happy that through the anime, young children began to sing along with us, and it was a big event for us to have anime lovers get to know us.
Q: Do any of your members like anime?
Mikiba: Yuji Teranishi on guitar and Masuda on bass have always loved anime. I used to like watching national anime such as "Chibi Maruko-chan," but after I met them, anime songs were played in our moving car without my being aware of it, and anime that I had never seen before were casually imprinted on me (laughs). (Laughs) So, when we became a full-fledged band, we wanted to do an anime tie-in with our music! That was one of our dreams as a band, and it came true with our major label debut!
Oh, wow. How was it for you as a band to produce music for an anime?
Mikiba: We have only one song that has been released to the public yet, but "Start Dash" had a link between the anime and our own situation and feelings, so we wrote the song with the overlapping parts in mind, rather than trying to make it sound like the anime. I had not written many romance songs, so when I heard about this one, I thought, "Let's try a romance song that fits the anime! So, I co-wrote the lyrics with guitarist Tera-kun, and we worked on the song, mixing the feelings of both the male and female sides. So we were able to take on new challenges, and we were able to write songs that were based only on our own experiences and feelings, but that were also close to the feelings of the people watching the anime. I think we have grown in the past year or so, as we have started to think about the people who listen to our music!
Q: What were your impressions of the "Anisama" stage?
Mikiba: I have only seen it on video, but there are so many people! The stage is huge! The penlights were so beautiful! The penlights are so beautiful! I have been performing as a band up until now, so I have not had many chances to perform with people who sing ani-song songs. When I perform with rock bands, I don't often use penlights, so I would like to sing surrounded by penlights. But to be honest, I am also worried about whether we, who have only been in the band for a year, will be able to stand up. But now that we have been chosen to perform, we want to enjoy it more than anyone else!
Q: What kind of stage do you want to be on?
Mikiba: Not many people know the name of our band or our songs, but we are planning to give a fun live performance that will appeal to newcomers. Gufufufufu (laughs). But since I will be performing with all these wonderful and famous seniors, I want to be on stage without fear and without shaking my legs! I also have to make sure I don't cry because I'm so moved. I tend to be quite moved (laughs), and I will try to hold it in so that I don't cry in any way!
Q: And this time, you also participated in the recording of the theme song! How was it today?
Mikiba: It was the first time for me to sing with various people in one song, so I was wondering how it would go, but (the recording) is only the part I sing! That's right. ...... I'd rather have comments with substance than this kind of thing (laughs)!
I wrote out the lyrics in my own notebook before I sang them, do you want to see that too? (He showed me his notebook.) Mr. Sato complimented me on my handwriting, but I usually write in such a messy style, but today I decided to put my mind to it and wrote in beautiful handwriting!
Really! I can't really convey that in writing, though (laughs).
Mikiba: Well, this line is where I sing, and the big letters are where I sing solo!
Q: I like the fact that you have the phrase "smile" in the part you sing. I was impressed by your smiling face when we talked about it.
Mikiba: That makes me very happy! I wonder why you chose this part of the song! It made me very happy. But I read it over and over again to the point where I don't sing it myself, so I can sing the whole thing! I have sung so much. Just being allowed to participate in "Anisama" is big news, but to be allowed to sing the theme song is a big deal, a major deal, so I've been practicing hard.
Q: By the way, looking at your profile, I see that you like fhána!
Mikiba: That's right! All the members like "Love Live! and the three of us went to the "Lantis Festival" held in Kansai. fhána was there, and I was like "towana-san is so cute! I was like, "Wow, towana-san is so cute! I started listening to a lot of their songs, and when fhána came to Kansai for live performances, I went to their concerts. So, I was brazen enough to put our music in their gift box, and they listened to it. We gradually got closer to each other, and we were able to go and say hello to him as a related party. It is a story of how our dream came true. So, thinking back to that time, many unimaginable things have been happening!
Q: But this song is about the intersection of those stories, isn't it?
Mikiba: It is the story of "Anisama" and also the story of the people who participated in "Anisama. I am happy to be a part of the story and to be included in the theme song, and at the same time, I don't want to tarnish what everyone has built up to this point! I also want to do my best to not tarnish what everyone has built up to this point! Also, throughout the song, I got the impression that the end is connected to the future, so I made sure to sing brightly.
I'm sure your voice will be cheerful.
Mikiba: I am usually husky. I don't drink alcohol, but when I meet someone for the first time, I ask them, "Are you sober? or "Are you not feeling well? (laughs).
(Laughs.) Ah! Also, the last part of "La la la la" was the most fun part of the song because I could immediately imagine the audience singing along with us, not just us.
Q: Were you able to hear the voices of the other members?
Mikiba: I was able to listen to the voices of the other singers that were recorded before I sang. But it is interesting how human beings are. I was surprised at how many different voices there really are. I'm looking forward to the completion of the song, and I'm incredibly happy to think that I'm among the voices in this song. Thank you very much!
Q: Lastly, how do you feel about "Anisama"?
Mikiba: The stage is huge, so I want to run around a lot. We will try our best to enjoy ourselves as much as the people who came and be a part of creating the best day of the festival!
