Advance Screening of "Carol & Tuesday" and Talk Show! Official report has arrived!

On March 30, 2019, an advance screening and talk show of the TV anime "Carol & Tuesday" was held. On stage were Miyuri Shimabukuro, Kana Ichinose, Sumire Uesaka, Akio Otsuka, Shinichiro Watanabe, the general director, and five others. Here is the official report.

Carol & Tuesday" is the latest work by Shinichiro Watanabe, director of "Cowboy Bebop," "Samurai Champloo," and many other masterpieces, and is also known for his character designs for the Nissin Foods Cup Noodle commercials "HUNGRY DAYS The Witch's Delivery Service" and "HUNGRY DAYS Heidi the Alpine Girl. Hidesaku Kubonouchi, who is also known for his character designs for the Nissin Foods Cup Noodle commercials "HUNGRY DAYS The Witch's Delivery Service" and "HUNGRY DAYS Heidi, Girl of the Alps," is the original character designer. The music, which will be the main focus of the story, will be composed by Flying Dog, who has composed music for numerous hit anime series such as the "Macross" series.

Prior to the broadcast of the first episode, an advance screening of the first episode "True Colors" and the second episode "Born to Run" was held at United Cinema Toyosu on March 30, 2019. Here is the official report from the event.

The five people who took the stage at the talk show after the screening were Miyuri Shimabukuro (Carol), Kana Ichinose (Tuesday), Sumire Uesaka (Angela), Akio Otsuka (Gus), and Shinichiro Watanabe (General Director). Akihiro Tomita, a music critic, served as moderator.

When the talk show began, General Director Watanabe, who had rushed to the venue in between productions, began by saying, "We are focusing on sound this time, so there is a lot of sound that you would not be able to hear if you watched it on TV. I am glad you were able to see the show today with good sound," he said.

When asked how it felt to see the film on the big screen, Shimabukuro said, "I was so excited I couldn't think straight," and added, "I was able to feel the work firsthand. Ichinose said, "It looks great in the theater," and Uesaka agreed, saying, "It's a shame we have to watch it on our TV.

When asked how the postrecording went, Mr. Otsuka explained that this time, General Director Watanabe himself was directing the sound. We are having fun while concentrating on the recording," she said. Carol and Tuesday were very nervous at first, but I think they should grow in sync with the two characters in the play.

Director Watanabe jokingly introduced the atmosphere at the studio, saying, "The character of Gus looks unreliable, but I think he is in charge when it comes down to it.

When the topic of impressions of each character came up, Shimabukuro first commented, "I thought she would be rough with her words because she is so savvy, but she also uses soft words such as 'I see,' etc. She looks tough, but she is also very nice. Even though she looks tough, Nai Brix's singing voice tells us how sensitive she is. She is a very nice girl," said Ichinose.

Ichinose, on the other hand, said, "She has a strong core and passion for music. She is a young lady, but she is not too formal, and sometimes uses modern child-like language such as "I googled it," so she is an easy character to get used to.

Uesaka, who plays Angela, said, "She is trying to become a singer to change her career from modeling, and I thought it was interesting that her motivation for music was completely different from that of the other two. I think Angela sings to be accepted by everyone around her and to seek her own identity," he said, analyzing the characters.

Otsuka-san said of Gus, "He used to be a musician in a rock band, but when it stopped selling, he got depressed and is now living a sloppy life. But when I met them, my dying spirit was ignited. I hope I can play the role in a way that I can support them and not get in the way of their success.

Regarding the fact that the songs in the play are sung in English, General Director Watanabe said, "This is a work that will be distributed worldwide, so I wanted to have all the songs sung in English by native English speakers so that they would be accepted around the world with pride. Also, I was influenced by Western music growing up, so I wanted to return that favor to the world," he explained.

In the end, all the guests appealed to the audience to spread the word through SNS, etc., and General Director Watanabe concluded the talk by saying, "It would be no good if the film is mocked before it reaches Narita, even though we want to deliver it to the world (laugh), so please help us spread the work. I hope you can help spread the work.
