Director Makoto Shinkai and RADWIMPS once again collaborate miraculously on their latest film "Weather Child! The trailer featuring the film and theme song has been released for the first time!

Animation director Makoto Shinkai's latest work, "Weather Child," which will be released nationwide on Friday, July 19, 2019, tells the story of a boy and a girl who are tossed about by fate and must "choose" their own way of life in an age where the weather is out of harmony with the rest of the world. A runaway boy, Hotaka, arrives in Tokyo and meets a girl with mysterious powers, Yona. Their love story is beautifully and poignantly portrayed as a message to all generations and to the whole world as we enter a new era. Torataro Daigo and Nanana Mori were chosen from over 2,000 auditions to voice the main character, Hotaka, and the heroine, Hina.

The music for "Weather Child" will be performed by RADWIMPS, three years after "Kimi no na wa. Three years have passed since then. Director Makoto Shinkai and RADWIMPS will team up again.

The film "Weather Child," which had been kept under wraps, and the trailer of "Weather Child," which features a new song by RADWIMPS, one of the theme songs of the film, have finally been released.

The title of the new song is "Ai ni nani ni katteiru koto wa aru narukai" ("Is there anything you can do for love yet?"). Director Shinkai says that when he received the song, he strongly felt that "this would be the movie to make.

The trailer released today was edited by Shinkai himself. The beautifully and delicately depicted world of Shinkai, including the sky and rain, is colored with the poetry and melodies of RADWIMPS, maximizing the theme of his latest film.

It was around August 2005 that Director Shinkai offered this film to RADWIMPS. As with the previous film, Shinkai and RADWIMPS held close meetings from the script stage, and the work is still being repeated with even greater precision and without compromise than in the previous film.
Like the previous film, the new film "Weather Child" will feature several vocal songs written by RADWIMPS and music from the film for important scenes in the movie.

I am RADWIMPS, the musical director for Makoto Shinkai's "Weather Child".
In the summer of 2017, I unexpectedly received an email from the director asking, "Would you read the script?" I replied, "I would be happy to read it. I replied, "I would be happy to read it. That was the beginning of our "Weather Child" story.
We are still working hard on it. I have been able to participate in the creation of the story even more than in the previous work, and I feel the joy of being able to create the work in the midst of strong teamwork. Perhaps more frequently than most couples, we are working day in and day out, exchanging e-mails with Shinkai-san every day.
Nothing has changed since we first worked with Shinkai, and he faces his work more straightforwardly, genuinely, stubbornly, and sometimes clumsily than anyone else. The staff in each section are currently supporting him with their utmost efforts. I am proud to be working with him again on this new adventure.
Sometimes I feel like I am losing heart, but I am struggling to keep up with the hard work of Hotaka and Yona (who appear in the film). I hope that everyone who watches this film will be filled with a sunny feeling.

Kimi no na wa. On August 26, 2017, exactly one year after the release of the film, I sent the newly written script for "Weather Child" to Yojiro. At first, I did not intend to make a music offer, but I really wanted to know personally what kind of sounds I could hear in Yojiro's head from this script.
Later, when I received "What Can Love Do for You Yet?", I strongly felt that this would be a film that I should make. This is the kind of experience I wanted to have - I was deeply convinced myself why I sent the script to Yojiro.
The first thing I said to RADWIMPS when we decided to make a film together again was, "Let's do it as if we were meeting each other," and "Let's do something different from what we did the last time. We didn't want to do the same thing, but something more interesting. Because we have worked together once, we can make something even better based on "What is your name? We thought we could deliver something even better to the audience based on "What's Your Name? It is the same with the film. The entire staff is now working hard to make it different from the previous film, but more surprising and exciting.
We are very happy if you can look forward to a new story and music.
