The TV anime "SWORD ART ONLINE" is based on a novel by Reki Kawahara (published by KADOKAWA), and tells the story of Kirito, a boy who is trapped in a virtual reality space within a game, and his friends who are on a deadly quest to clear the game. The first TV anime season aired in 2012, followed by the second in 2014, and "Sword Art Online the Movie: Ordinal Scale" was released in 2005 and became a blockbuster hit, grossing over 4.3 billion yen at the box office worldwide. The latest in the series, "Sword Art Online Arisimation War of Underworld," will begin airing in October 2019.
