ROUND 16, the second season of the TV anime "HIGHSCORE GIRL II," has finally begun! Cast comments have arrived!

The second season of the TV anime "High Score Girl", "High Score Girl II", will finally begin with "ROUND 16" broadcast on October 25, 2019. In conjunction with this, comments from the cast members about the second season broadcast have been released.

What is "HIGHSCORE GIRL II"?
It is the second season of the anime of the same name based on "HIGHSCORE GIRL," a coming-of-age juvenile manga about boys and girls set against the backdrop of the fighting game boom in the 1990s by Rensuke Oshikiri. The original story was serialized in "Monthly Big Gangan" (Square Enix) and other magazines. Continuing from the first season, the animation is directed by Yoshiki Yamakawa, with music by Yoko Shimomura and animation production by J.C. STAFF. In addition, the game was highly acclaimed not only by anime fans but also by game fans, as the game center "Mikado" in Takadanobaba cooperated in the game recording.

ROUND 14 and ROUND 15, which were not broadcast on TV in the first "High Score Girl" season, were aired over two weeks in October, and now ROUND 16, the first episode of the second "High Score Girl II" season, is finally on the air.

Cast Comments

The following cast comments were received in conjunction with the airing of ROUND 16.
Comments as of before the airing of Round 16.
Comments as of before the airing of Round 16.

Kohei Amasaki (Haruo Yaguchi)
-How did you feel when you heard that the second season was going to be produced?
I was very happy to be able to play Haruo again and to be involved in the world of HIGHSCORE GIRL as a voice actor. I was thinking to myself during the first season, "If we've reached the end of the original story, then if there is a second season, I might be able to make it to the end! It was like a dream come true. At the same time, I felt like I had to put in a lot of effort to make it happen.

-Do you remember any differences in the recording of the second season compared to the first season?
The atmosphere on the set was great from the first season, so I feel like it has gotten even better. However, I feel that the proportion of the content of the conversation shifted from "about the games in the production" to "about Haruo and his friends' love story. Of course, we talked a lot about games! I think we went out to eat a lot from the first season! We are a good team!

-There were many scenes from Round 1 to 15, what was your favorite scene?
The scene in episode 2 where they go to the restaurant. I like the scene where Haruo takes Akira out of the Ono family's spell. I like Moemi-sensei's "Piano! English! Japanese calligraphy! Abacus!" It's the part where we see a vision like that. There are many more scenes that I like.

-What are some of the highlights and recommendations for the upcoming broadcast of "Round 16"?
The "love" part of arcade love comedies is depicted more intensely in the second season. Also, the type of "love" changes as the characters grow older. The focus is on the various characters, and their charms are even more explosive than in the first season! I don't think there is any other work that combines arcade, love and comedy so well! I think there is no other work that combines arcade, love, and comedy so well! I can say without joking that this is a work that you should watch without missing a single episode or scene!

Sayumi Suzushiro (Akira Ohno)
-How did you feel when you heard that the second season was going to be produced?
When I was at the end of the recording of the first season, I was wondering if I would be able to complete the show in just one more season, so I was really happy when I heard about it! I am very happy to be able to play the role until the end.

-Do you feel that there are any differences between the second season and the first season?
I have the impression that the arcade part of the arcade love comedy was stronger in the first season, but I think the love part became stronger in the second season. Everyone has grown up individually, so the content of the story has also changed a little. When I saw those lines and scenes, I was deeply moved by the fact that they have grown up... At the same time, I thought a lot about how the grown-up Akira would react to Haruo during the recording sessions. Also, in the second season, Akira's sister, Makoto Ohno, and the other members of the Shibuya group, who are really funny, punchy, and attractive characters, appeared again, so the atmosphere on the set was even brighter and more congenial!

-Please tell us again about your favorite scenes from Round 1 to 15.
First of all, I can't forget the scene with Ma-kun and Me-tan in Round 1. The scene where Haruo puts his school bag under Akira at the candy store arcade. The scene where Haruo eats a big menchikatsu on the bank. The scene at the airport in ROUND3. the scene in ROUND5 where Koharu watches Haruo playing outside in a snowstorm from inside the house and thinks about various things. the scene on the bank in ROUND8. the scene in ROUND11 where the NEOGEO CD is moving for a long time. the scene taking purikura in ROUND12. the scene where Koharu confesses her love for Haruo. Koharu's confession scene. the scene with Moemi and Namie in ROUND13. the night game world in ROUND14. the scene in ROUND15 where Haruo is making a game (Oonoke Quest) for Akira. There are so many scenes that I can't even begin to list them all...!

-Please tell us about the highlights and what you recommend.
This is the same as the first season, but the real game screen! This is something that can't be seen in HIGH SCORE GIRL! I think this is a really great part of HIGH SCORE GIRL that can't be missed. Then there are the new characters. Each character has a strong personality, and it is really interesting to watch them all. It is packed with comedy. And I hope that you will watch how the love part of the arcade love comedy will turn out and how each heart moves until the very end.

Yuki Hirose (as Koharu Hidaka)
-How did you feel when you heard that the second season was going to be produced?
I was very, very happy to be able to play the role until the end. I knew from reading the original work that there were many important scenes for Koharu, so I felt that since I would be playing the role, I had to face Koharu and give it my all. I was also genuinely happy to be able to watch HIGHSCORE GIRL in animation until the very end.

-Do you feel there are any differences between the recording of the second season and the first season?
I would say in terms of differences, the second season has a stronger ″love comedy″ element of arcade love comedy, so whenever something happens between Haruo and the two heroines, many of the cast members were jealous of Haruo's insensitivity. I was sad to see the recording of the last episode getting closer.

-There were various scenes from Round 1 to 15.
In the previous interview, I said that I liked the scene with Miyao, Doi, and Haruo because it was peaceful. Both have fireworks going off, but Haruo's feelings are completely different. The scene between Haruo and Akira at the family restaurant in Round 15 is also a scene that I would like everyone who is going to watch the second season to remember.

-What are some of the highlights and recommendations for the upcoming broadcast of Round 16?
There are many scenes that give us a glimpse of the charm of each character. Koharu is getting bigger and stronger, which is both sad and encouraging. I had to follow Koharu with all my might! I played the role with the feeling that I had to follow Koharu with all my might. I think the wonderful thing about this work is the perfect balance between serious romantic scenes and gag scenes full of small jokes, and this has been continued from the first season with even more power. I hope you will also pay attention to the new OP and ED, both in terms of visuals and music.

Chinatsu Akasaki (Makoto Ohno)
-How did you feel when you heard that the second season was going to be produced?
I heard that Makoto would be active from the second season, so I wanted to play that free and loose older sister again as soon as possible! I wanted to play that free and loose older sister again as soon as possible! I love games, so I wondered what kind of games would appear in the second season, and I also had high hopes that we would have a lot of fun talking about games on the set!

-Do you remember any differences between the recording of the second season and the first season?
There were a lot of scenes where Makoto went wild, so it was very energetic and fun! There was a lot of interaction with Satomi Arai, who played Namie's mother, and I was able to stretch out and play the role with the feeling of borrowing her heart.

-There were many scenes from Round 1 to 15. What was your favorite scene?
I like the scene in Haruo's room where they are playing Tokimemo because it makes me smile. Koharu is stabbing herself in the back by overlapping herself with the game, and Makoto and Namie's mom are yelling at each other as much as they want. It seems like a strange combination, but they work well together!

- ROUND 16 will be airing soon. What are some of the highlights and recommendations?
Koharu's hard work is really healthy. ...... Koharu is getting stronger and stronger, and I find myself rooting for her. But Akira is so fragile that I want to protect her. ...... The love story between them and Haruo is a highlight!

Satomi Arai (playing the role of Namie Yaguchi)
-How did you feel when you heard that the second season of the show was going to be produced?
Of course I was happy. Of course I was happy, but more than that, I was worried that the show would end the way it did! If it doesn't continue! What will you do if you don't continue such an interesting anime? I am more than happy to hear that they decided on a second season. I'm so glad they decided on a second season!

-Do you remember any differences between the recording of the second season and the first season?
My son has grown up a lot, as a man! (From a mom's point of view) I was glad to see that Chinatsu Akasaki, who plays Makoto, had more opportunities to play the role of Makoto, and I was very happy to see that she had more opportunities to play the role of Makoto. The lovey-dovey scene between the four of them, including Miyao and Doi, was also very funny.

-Please tell us about the highlights of the show and what you recommend.
The casting of the Mizonokuchi and Shibuya gamers was hilarious. Oh, and the Shibuya kogals are great too! Shibuya's kogals are also good..! The second season of HIGHSCORE GIRL is also full of fun. My son and Koharu's family restaurant in Shibuya. It was agonizing. Yes, it was very agonizing. I was in such agony that I thought my mother might collapse from excitement during recording. I was going to watch this scene until the end, but I couldn't stand it and left the booth halfway through...that's how good it was...that's how good it was!

Kazuyuki Okitsu (Kotaro Miyao)
-How did you feel when you heard that the second season of the show was going to be produced?
I was so happy! I can see the continuation! As my best friend Miyao, I had to see where Haruo's love would lead him! I felt that I had to see what would happen to Haruo's love life as his best friend Miyao. Is there any difference between the recording of the second season and the first season? In the first season, I was watching the show while yakking at the mix of secret love, but I felt like the studio got more and more excited as the episodes went on because of the love hurricane between the three of them.

-There were many scenes from ROUND 1 to 15. What was your favorite scene?
There are so many highlights. Personally, I get very excited when I see Andababa. It's love. ROUND16~ will be airing soon, what are your highlights and recommendations? The Triangle Love Hurricane is of course a highlight, but I am being yakked around. You should also pay attention to the behavior of the people surrounding Haruo!

Daiki Yamashita (Genta Doi)
-How did you feel when you heard that the second season of the show was going to be produced?
Doi is a very fun and interesting character to play, so I was very happy to hear that I would be able to play him again! I think he was born under a very difficult star that tends to get involved in many things, so I wonder what kind of incidents he will be involved in during the second season! Don't lose, Doi! Do your best, Doi! I was like, "Go for it, Doi!

-Do you feel that the recording sessions for the second season were any different from those for the first season?
I felt that the way Haruo and Miyao treated each other was gradually becoming more and more favorable. I don't think Doi himself realizes it, but I was happy to see that they are becoming friends.

-Please tell us about the highlights of the show and what you recommend.
Doi's sparkling !!!!! Please look forward to it!

Shizuka Ito (playing the role of Moemi Gyoda)
-What were your feelings when you heard that the second season was going to be produced?
I love the work, the scene, and the game, so I was really happy that I could still be in that world and play the role of Moemi!

-Do you remember any differences between the recording sessions for the second season and the first season?
The scene was still a group of fun people (laughs). I enjoyed playing the role as much as I could because there were many works that I myself missed.

-Please tell us about your favorite scenes from Round 1 to 15.
I like the story about going to Gashadoro. Haruo's handsome appearance on the way home...!

-What are some of the highlights and recommendations for the upcoming broadcast of "Round 16"?
I hope that the audience will not only enjoy the many nostalgic games, but also watch what happens to the lovebirds...! I cried...!

Mr. Cho (as Grandpa)
-How did you feel when you heard that the second season of the show was going to be produced?
Oh, I knew you would do it, you did it! Thank you to all the production staff!

-Do you have any differences in the recording for the second season compared to the first season?
There are no differences at all.

Hiroki Yasumoto (as Mr. Guile)
-How did you feel when you heard that the second season was going to be produced?
I was very happy because the end of the first season was very half-hearted and frustrating (laugh). Do you feel that the recording sessions for the second season were any different from those for the first season? I feel that everyone's level of communication was higher, which made it easier to create the work. Mr. Amasaki, Ms. Suzushiro, and Mr. Hirose were all very confident, and the high-energy pair of Akasaki and Arai were involved in the story in a very strong way.

-There were many scenes from rounds 1 to 15. What was your favorite scene?
The scene on the bank. I didn't have that kind of youth, Buckaroo!

-What are some of the highlights and recommendations for the upcoming broadcast of Round 16?
Haruo, who only grows up to be a chintara, but he is growing up. Haruo, who has only game and kindness in his unique park, gains courage in the end. Don't miss that process.

■Ayaka Asai (Mayumayu)
-You participated as the character of the Shibuya group in the second season of the show. What did you and the cast talk about during the postrecording?
I remember I was surprised to see a NES Classic Mini at the recording studio, which was unique to High Score Girl! I remember being surprised. The cast members were not playing the game as it was being recorded, but I was amazed at how much love there was for games at the site! I thought. But I also thought that it was very tempting for game lovers! (lol).

-When you were a student (or are currently a student), did you go to the arcade? Do you have any memories of game arcades?
I used to go there often because I liked crane games. I used to conquer the figure series I wanted to win, or go to the next one in search of the one I was looking for. It's been a while since I was in a game center, but I still stop by once in a while for a change of pace. One of my memories of the arcade is when I put 10,000 yen in the money changer, took only coins, and went back to the table. When I came back to find I had no bills. Everyone should be careful! (laugh)

-There are many games that appear in "High Score Girl.
Do you have any memories related to games? I was exposed to video games since I was a child because of my older brother's influence. I remember playing MariCar and Bomberman on the Super Nintendo at the time. I loved games but I wasn't very good at them, and my brother always beat me to a pulp (lol).

-I'm still working on my Super NES, and I still have save data on it.
I love coffee and am a bit obsessed with it. I buy freshly roasted coffee beans from my favorite coffee shop and grind and drip it at home! There are so many different beans to choose from, so I make my own list of preferences, and I'm always anxious to see when a new bean will overturn the tentative No. 1 spot (laughs).

-Please give a message to the fans of HIGHSCORE GIRL who will be watching the second season.
My name is Ayaka Asai, and I played the role of Mayu Mayu in this game. Games are fun to play against or with someone else, aren't they? This is a work that takes you back to those days when you loved and cherished games more than anything else. And it's not just games, there are signs that the adolescent romantic comedy part of the story is about to get a lot bigger! Please look forward to it!

Satoshi Hino (Masaru)
-Do you have any memories from the postrecording sessions? Or, what did you talk about with the cast members during the postrecording sessions?
There were many nostalgic games and game characters from my school days, so I had a lot of fun talking about those games and playing with people of the same generation.

-Did you go to game arcades when you were a student (or now)?
Do you have any memories about game arcades? I used to go to the arcade a lot in those days. I wasn't that good at fighting games, so I especially liked shooting games and racing games.

-There are many games that appear in "High Score Girl. Do you have any memories related to games?
When I was a student, I was especially addicted to RPGs such as the "Dracula" series and "FF" series, zombie games such as "Resident Evil," historical simulations and action games such as "Nobunaga's Ambition," "Three Kingdoms," and the "Warriors" series, and games such as "Metal Gear Solid," Fire Wrestling", "Ace Combat", and many others.

-What are some of the games that you have been playing (or are playing), or that you are obsessed with, like Haruo?
I am obsessed with games in general, such as maxing out all characters, completing all items, clearing hidden elements, and so on.

-Please give a message to the HIGHSCORE GIRL fans who will be watching the second season.
I played the role of Masao, a member of the Shibuya group, in the second season of HIGHSCORE GIRL. I hope that everyone who watches the second season of HIGHSCORE GIRL will be able to enjoy the charm and groove of this work, and above all, the fun of the game. Please look forward to the second season of High Score Girl!

Junji Mashima (Duorro)
-Do you have any memories from the postrecording sessions? What did you and the cast talk about during the postrecording sessions?
I think we talked a lot about anime and games that we were playing at the time, probably because the story was around the time when we were students. Daisuke Sakaguchi, who was also a member of the Shibuya group, and I talked a lot about Shurat the Sky Warrior and G Gundam. It was a lot of fun.

-When you were a student (or now), did you go to game arcades? Do you have any memories about game arcades?
I often went with my friends, but I rarely played by myself. But I had fun just watching my friends play arcade games, so it's a good memory. I was not happy to see them use only big, burly guys when I wanted them to use girl characters (laughs).

-There are many games that appear in "High Score Girl. Do you have any memories of games?
I remember enjoying "Yoshi's Cookies" in elementary school, "Koryu Densetsu Virgast" in junior high school, and "Fengun Kabuki Den" in high school. I probably liked games that could be played alone more than competitive games. I still play 4 or 5 games on my smartphone. I don't have enough time.

-Please tell us what you used to play (or are playing) and what you are obsessed with, just like Haruo.
Since I came to Tokyo, I've been into Kamen Rider... I go to the shooting location to take pictures, buy a transformation belt, master transformation poses, and have fun at home. It's the hobby I spend the most money on (laughs).

-Please give a message to the HIGHSCORE GIRL fans who will be watching the second season.
I'm an otaku at heart and I'm more of an Akiba guy. All three of us have different personalities and it was fun to play the roles, so I hope you enjoy it.

Daisuke Sakaguchi (Mamezo)
-Do you have any memories from the postrecording sessions? Or, what kind of conversations did you have with the cast members during the recording sessions?
I remember many memories from the time when I lived in Shibuya. I didn't go near Shibuya (laughs). We had a lot of fun talking about those days in the studio.

-Did you go to game arcades when you were a student (or now)? Do you have any memories about arcade games?
I didn't go to the arcade when I was a student. The arcades in the countryside felt like hangouts (laughs). (laughs) After I moved to Tokyo, I used to go there often. Many games appear in "High Score Girl." Do you have a favorite game? Do you have any memories of the games? At that time, in the arcade, there were games like Oedo Fight and Samuspy. I think the one I played the most was Virtua Ron. I also liked quiz games. At home, I mostly played simulation games.

-Please tell us what you used to play (or are playing) and what you are obsessed with, just like Haruo.
I am obsessed with not being obsessed (laugh). Now and in the past, I have been broad and shallow. So when I see someone who has mastered one hobby, I think it's great.

-Please give a message to the HIGHSCORE GIRL fans who will be watching the second season.
This work is filled with nostalgic memories for our generation, but I guess it feels fresh to younger people. I guess I have been alive for a long time too... I hope that people of all ages will see this film and feel it in various ways!
