10 Reasons Why "Detective Conan: The Dark Blue Fist" is "Delicious" No matter how many times you watch it. No.46]
We want to meet more and more anime that excite our hearts, anime that will cheer us up tomorrow, and anime that we will always love! Our anime writers will introduce you to anime that are hot at the moment, regardless of whether they are new releases or long-running favorites.
This time, we will focus on "Detective Conan: Konjou no Fist," which is currently in theaters.
The previous "Detective Conan: Zero no Shokunin" released last year set a record for the highest box-office revenue in the history of the "Detective Conan" franchise. This year's film also surpassed the 400 million yen mark on its first day of release and ranked first at the weekend box office for two consecutive weekends. It got off to a better start than the previous film.
The author, who went to the theater on the opening day of the movie, will introduce, without spoilers, the charms and highlights of the movie, which can be enjoyed over and over again, as it grabs the hearts of first-time viewers and becomes deeper the more you watch it.
Even in the absence of Toru Amuro, the film is making great progress! The underlying power of the "Detective Conan" movie
The movie "Detective Conan: The Dark Blue Fist" continues to make rapid progress. The previous film, "Detective Conan: Zero no Shokunin" was the biggest hit of all time, and even in the absence of Toru Amuro, a character very popular among female fans, the film got off to a better start than the previous film.
This time, for the first time in a theater version, the story takes place overseas in Singapore, where high school student and karate expert Makoto Kyogoku, the undefeated "Kicking Prince" with 400 fights, makes his first appearance. The three-way battle between Kid the Phantom Thief, the Kicking Prince, and Detective Conan is the highlight of the show.
The stage is set up with plenty of mystery and action, a precise structure, and many layers of deliciously detailed descriptions that emphasize the flow of the characters' personalities and emotions. The fun and comfort of this film is too good to be wasted on a single viewing!
Let me explain 10 reasons why you can enjoy it comfortably and happily even if you see it twice, thrice, or many times.
(1) Enjoy "Singapore Sightseeing
This time, the stage is set in Singapore, the first overseas location for the theater version. Many of Singapore's iconic landmarks, including the Marina Bay Sands, are depicted with a sense of realism, and at times become the scene of panic and destruction in a spectacular manner.
The first time you see the movie, you will enjoy it without thinking. The second and subsequent times, you will be able to enjoy it again with a fresh feeling if you take in "local information" as if you were going out to Singapore with Conan and his friends.
Incidentally, in the previous film, fans on SNS and elsewhere referred to going to see the film in the theater as "going to be executed," but in this film, they are said to be "leaving the country.
(2) Criminal psychology specialist "Leon Roe" is attractive.
The key guest character in this film is Leon Roe, a criminal psychology specialist. He runs a security company and guards the world's largest blue sapphire, the "Fist of Dark Blue. He is also the one whom the Phantom Thief Kid, who is after the sapphire, confronts.
Leon is quite a fascinating opponent. He is a master of human psychology, always one step ahead of his opponents, and plays psychological warfare to exploit their weaknesses.
Once you have seen the film through to the end, you will want to watch it a second time, imagining his mysterious true intentions. Actor Ikuzaburo Yamazaki voices the character and gives him a unique presence.
(3) Chewing up inexhaustible deductions
As is to be expected in a mystery, the deductions are also enjoyable. The murder, the attack, the jewelry crisis, and the other incidents follow in rapid succession, making it difficult to grasp the full picture after just one viewing.
Who did it? How was it done? Why did they do it? are piled on top of each other to form a mystery. Conan, on the prowl, unravels the mystery as he obtains clues.
The film is so finely layered with clues that even if you initially ignore the clues, if you watch the film a second or third time, you will realize that the clues have been presented to you.
(4) A foreigner! Disaster! Enjoy the great power of the action!
One of the highlights of this episode is the karate action of Kyogoku Makoto, who has been called "out of this world" since his first appearance in the TV series. The action is so entertaining that you may mistake it for an animated film.
The familiar aerial flight of Kid the Phantom Thief using a hang glider is also exhilarating. The freedom, speed, and exhilaration of floating through the air are all here to be savored.
Of course, the climax of the film, which involves a huge structure, is a great powerhouse! The looming danger, the relentless destruction, and the weight of the structure are all part of the experience. The sense of relentless destruction and weight of the film can be enjoyed to the fullest in this film as well.
(5) Sonoko Suzuki's "heroine-ness" is impressive.
The focus on Kyogoku Makoto has brought the spotlight on Suzuki Sonoko, the daughter of the Suzuki Zaibatsu. She is Ran's best friend, and although she is usually known for her meekness and meddlesomeness, this time she is a "damsel" in distress. Her loveliness stands out.
In order to ignite Kyogoku's love for her and to get him to seriously fight, she has to suffer the greatest disaster of all the members of Kogoro Mouri's group, but that is also a characteristic of the heroine.
Many viewers must have been struck by her single-minded gaze on Kyogoku, her shy gestures, and her unusual hairstyle. The rare Sonoko is always endearing, no matter how many times you see her.
(6) The rivalry between Kid the Phantom Thief and Kyogoku Makoto will make you grin.
The Phantom Thief Kid and Kyogoku are rivals who have already encountered each other in the TV series up to this point and have faced off as "the one who aims" and "the one who protects" the jewels owned by the Suzuki Zaibatsu.
Kid's weapons are his signature disguise, secret tools, and surprise tricks. Kyogoku, on the other hand, is a man of overwhelming power and extraordinary physical ability, who can do the impossible with just his body. Kid is at a disadvantage in a one-on-one match, so he must find a way to fend off Kyogoku and achieve his goal.
In this game, too, Kid seems to find Kyogoku somewhat difficult. Kyogoku, on the other hand, has an unsettled feeling toward the Phantom Thief Kid, whom the meek Sonoko calls "Master Kid.
In many ways, the two are always nervous about what will happen when they meet each other. The tension between the two is always present. The "promise" of this film is fun no matter how many times you see it.
(7) Enjoy the sense of distance between the Phantom Thief Kid and Conan Edogawa
Although they appreciate each other's wits, aesthetics, and beliefs, Phantom Thief Kid and Detective Conan (Shinichi Kudo) are rivals who are incompatible in terms of their positions. In this film, the two rivals have realized a serious joint battle.
Kid is one of the few people in the film who knows that "Conan Edogawa = Shinichi Kudo," and has cooperated with Conan on a limited basis in times of crisis. He is also good at disguising himself as "Shinichi Kudo," which is similar to his real face.
The setting of this film, in which these two are brought into a "relationship in which they must cooperate with each other" within the first 10 minutes of the film, is wonderful. The joint work of a great detective and a thief is developed freely, with deductions and actions. It is a common story of rivals, but when they become allies, they are very reliable.
Kid's line, which expresses the difference between the positions of "thief" and "detective" in a different language than before, inspired by the "fist" in the title, will stay in your mind.
The scene of Kid and Conan flying in the sky on the hang glider is exhilarating. The unusual distance between the two, whose faces are a little too close to each other in the hang glider, also makes you grin.
(8) Shinichi Kudo and Conan Edogawa, the great and small detective duo, are a lot of fun.
Since the Phantom Thief Kid is often disguised as Shinichi, Shinichi and Conan, who are busy deducing the truth, share secrets and often talk eye-to-eye, and the duo of big and small with the same face is also pictorially interesting.
Just because they fight together doesn't mean they can't be distracted by their rivals. Particularly problematic is the distance between Kid and Ran, disguised as Shinichi (also too close!). (They are also too close!).
Ran, who has not seen "Shinichi" for a long time, snuggles up to him. In the school trip episode (TV series aired in January 2019), Shinichi temporarily reverts back to his high school student form, and Ran responds to his confession, which he had put on hold, and they officially become "lovers.
Conan (Shinichi) is not happy about this. Kid, on the other hand, is not expecting Ran's aggressive attitude. This slapstick is what "Detective Conan" is all about!
(9) Uncovering Mouri Ran's feelings for Shinichi
We get to see a lot of Ran in love with Shinichi, whom she hasn't seen in a while, but what were her thoughts behind that?
If you know Ran's feelings, which are revealed at the end of the movie, you will be able to say, "Oh, really? and everyone will want to watch it again from the beginning.
And if you watch the movie with that intention, you may find yourself saying, "Hmm? If you watch the film with that in mind, you will see that the foreshadowing that makes you think, "What if this is ......," is carefully and unobtrusively laid in the film.
(10) The film is a bit of a romp in the "Detective Conan" style!
After enjoying the elaborate and carefully constructed mystery and structure, I would like to once again make a comment on the "movie-like" and "manga-like" aspects of the film, or rather, the "Detective Conan" aspect of the film.
Why is Conan only dark-colored and unidentifiable?
Why is everyone so fluent in Japanese?
Kid's silk hat and cape, aren't they a distraction?
Kyogoku, isn't he a weapon now ......?
The pleasure of mystery-solving, action and romance woven on the marriage of precision and messiness is what makes "Detective Conan the Movie" so much fun.
Each character is comfortable in the "form that fans most want to see".
After watching the film again, I felt that the charm of this film is that each of the characters is portrayed "as they should be", "attractively", and "carefully".
Kyogoku Makoto, who made his first appearance in a movie, showed us his strength like a demigod and his cute and charming personality, and I fell in love again with the Phantom Thief Kid, who has appeared many times in the movie version. Conan, whose deductions are sharp but who is at a loss to reveal his true identity, is also very consistent. Sonoko, who is in love, is adorable, and Ran, who is in love with Shinichi, is brave.
Each of them is active in the way that "fans most want to see them". This is the most exciting and, in a sense, the most difficult thing for fans to do.
The most exciting and, in a way, the most difficult thing for fans to do is to ask, "Is Detective Conan really that interesting? The show is easy to understand and enjoyable even for first-time viewers, and fans will be happy to watch it again and again.
The "Detective Conan" movie has become a tradition for major holidays. This all-around seamless film is also sure to surprise and delight many people.
