[Autographed poster giveaway! Ao-chan's duality is interesting! Interview with Azumi Waki, who plays Ao Horie, and Tamari Kimura, who plays Masashi Takaoka in the popular spring anime "Midareta Aochan ga Gakuganai"!

Azumi Waki, who plays the main character Horie Ao in the TV anime "Modara na Ao Chan ga Gakushu ga Dekinai," which has been airing since April 2019, and Tamari Kimura, who plays Masa Takaoka, a classmate from elementary school, appear at Akiba Research Institute!

The anime "Misarana Ao Can't Study" is based on the manga "Nasty Ao Can't Study" by Koi Kawahara (serialized in Shonen Magazine Edge, published by Kodansha). Ao Horie, a high school girl with a father who is a successful sensual novelist and who is devoted to her studies and hates men, has a confession of love from Takumi Kijima, a boy in her class, and her school life changes drastically! Furthermore, Masashi Takaoka, a classmate from elementary school, appears and falls in love with Kijima, leading to a love triangle. Which way will Ao-chan's imagination run wild tomorrow? This is a comedy work.

In this issue, we asked Azumi Waki, who plays Ao Horie, and Tamari Kimura, who plays Masashi Takaoka, about the highlights of this work!

(The more I read (the original work), the more the image I got from the work changed (Waki).

--What is your impression of the work?

Kazuki: "It's so crazy" (laughs). (Laughs) When I read the original, I thought, "Is it a manga with girls talking naughty words? But when I read it again after I decided on the role, I found that there were elements of romantic comedy in it, as well as descriptions like those in a shoujo manga (......). I remember that as I read more and more, the image I had of the role changed considerably from the first time I read it.

Kimura I knew about the work before I auditioned. I often read e-books, and this work was on my "recommended list. I decided to give it a try and found it very interesting. When I heard that it was going to be made into an anime, I was convinced!

--How was your audition?

Kimura: At first I wanted to play Ao-chan. She is a girl who is pushed around by herself and others, so I thought she would be very challenging to play. But when I actually tried playing her, I found that I enjoyed playing Masa more than Ao-chan. Her two-faced and strong-willed personality was very well balanced, and I enjoyed playing her. Now I wonder if Masa-chan was a better fit for me.

Kazuki: I accepted only Ao-chan. She is serious and cool at heart, but she has two sides to her, one when she gives off a man-hating aura and the other when her imagination gets the better of her, which makes her a lot of fun to play. I enjoy playing her because she has two sides to her, one when she gives off a man-hating aura and the other when her imagination gets the better of her.

Tamari Kimura

--Please introduce the character you played.

Kazuki: Looking at the title alone, you might think that "Ao-chan is an idiot who can't study" (laughs), but in fact, that's not true. ...... She is a girl who, for one reason or another, devotes her youth to her studies with the goal of getting accepted to a national university and living on her own.

As she talks to and teases her classmate Takumi Kijima, whom she calls the "King of Rear Enrichment," she becomes aware of him. As I thought to myself, "Kijima is after me," I couldn't concentrate on my studies. I thought it was very girly that a girl who has done nothing but study could only think about boys.

Kimura Masashi is a beautiful girl who went to the same elementary school as Ao-chan. She falls in love with Kijima-kun, whom she met by chance at a blind date, and she is determined to make it happen. At first glance, she may seem like a bad girl as she tries to bully Kijima-kun and obstructs Ao-chan's attempts to get close to him, but in fact, she is a ...... I can't say any more at this time! I'm sure we'll be seeing a lot of good things about Masa-chan in the future, so I hope you'll look forward to it.

--Do the two of you have any characters you are interested in?

Kimura: He may not be the main character ......, but he is a skinhead senior. At first, he was a so-called "mob" kind of character, but he is gradually becoming more and more intense ....... I personally look forward to seeing more of him in the future (laughs).

Kazuki: Is it Ao's father after all? He is a successful sensual novelist, so if it weren't for him, Ao might not have become the kind of girl who has lewd thoughts, and the story might have been nothing more than Ao just falling in love with a cool guy (laughs). (Laughs.) He is usually very playful, but I think he is a good father who sees that Ao-chan is having trouble and gives her advice, and he has her back.

Kimura: I think the most interesting part of this film is "the difference between Ao-chan and Kijima-kun. They end up fighting or growing apart because of their misunderstandings, but I think Masa-chan and her father are the driving force that makes them want to make up once again, so it's a very challenging role.

--What kind of environment do you use for postrecording?

Kazuki: There are not too many characters, so we work in a friendly atmosphere.

Kimura Junta Terashima (who plays Kijima) and I are both into a certain smartphone game, and I told Kenjiro Tsuda (who plays the father), "I'm going to collaborate with 'XX' (*a work in which Mr. Tsuda appears), so I'm definitely going to play the game and get his character! When I was saying this, Terashima-san came into the booth later and said the exact same thing to Tsuda-san. ...... (laughs).

Kazuki: I feel that Mr. Tsuda is always looking out for me on site, and I feel very comfortable with him. I tend to be in a daze at every scene (laughs), but I talk about acting with Shuri-san in my spare time!

--I've been talking with Tamari about acting in my spare time!

Kimura There is one in which Kazuki does a death voice, and I remember looking at the script and thinking, "I wonder what she's going to do? I remember looking at the script and thinking, "How is she going to do that?

(Laughs) Kazuki: "What is a death voice anyway? I was a little worried that I might break my throat ......" when I looked it up. But since we recorded it after the post recording, my throat was in a very open state, so I was able to use the death voice with a good heart (?) and I was able to do it. I think I was able to trigger the death voice!

Kimura: "Understanding Misaka na Aochan" is a parody using speech balloons from the original manga, and the number of them is quite impressive. I am a little worried that it must be tough for the staff to come up with the material (laughs). I'm a little worried (laughs).

Kazuki: You update the site frequently, and with this project, we won't have any "Ao-chan" loss. It's wonderful!

Azumi Wake

--What do you think about the OP theme "Wonderful Wonder" sung by Edgar Sullivan?

Kimura: This may sound a little rude, but "Is this really the OP theme for 'Ao-chan'?" Kimura It may sound a bit rude, but it's a refreshing song that makes you think, "Is this really the OP theme for 'Ao-chan'?

Kazuki: The content of the work has a gap between the title and the theme song, so I thought it would be nice if the theme song had a gap as well. It is a stylish song that makes you think, "Why not have a gap in the theme song as well? The way the colors are gradually being added to the plain white picture is especially stylish.

Kimura It must be a very stylish anime. ...... (laughs)

The ED theme song, "Koi wa Miracle" by Spira Spica , depicts the scene where Ao-chan and Kijima-kun meet, and I think it will make fans of the original grin, so please pay attention to this scene as well.

--Ao-chan's father writes sensual novels. What genre of books do the two of you often read?

Kimura: We often read essay books and interview collections that show what famous people are thinking. In the past, I used to read a lot of fantasy novels like that, but recently I may have become "realistic" in a sense (laughs).

Waki: I don't have a specific genre, but I often read books that I have purchased in e-book format on the move. I often buy e-books of original works of anime in which I am going to appear. Sometimes I end up buying so many that I break out in a cold sweat when I look at the amount. ...... (wry smile)

--Please give us a message on the future highlights of the TV anime.

Kazuki: Like Tamari, when I first read the original story, I thought, "This would be a great anime," so I am very happy to see Ao-chan and her friends in action! There are still new characters and new developments awaiting us, so please watch until the end. And if you like it, please buy and read the original manga. Thank you very much!

Kimura: In the TV anime, Ao-chan's facial expression changes as she is delusional, and it is very comical. The 15-minute episodes allow you to enjoy the show in a short time, even when you are busy, and Masa-chan will be active in the future, so please enjoy the show so much that you will not be able to concentrate on your studies (laughs)!
