The popular RPG "Tales of" series has sold more than 20 million units worldwide! Commemorative sale starts today, May 8!
Namco Bandai Entertainment Inc. has announced that the cumulative sales*1 of its popular RPG "Tales of" series have surpassed 20 million units.
In addition, starting today, May 8 (Wed.), three campaigns including a limited time sale of the downloadable version of the game are underway to commemorate the 20 million unit worldwide sales milestone.
The "Tales of" series, which began with the first title in 1995, has been sold in more than 100 countries and regions since then, and the strong messages conveyed in each title, appealing characters with strong emotional resonance, and a battle system that uses full-scale action battles despite being an RPG, have been well received by men and women in their teens and 30s. The game has been popular for more than 20 years among a wide range of users, mainly men and women in their teens to thirties. In addition to home video game software, the company has expanded its fan base through a wide range of initiatives, including the distribution of smartphone applications, stage and orchestra performances, travel tours, and the development of merchandise.
As one of the reasons for the global cumulative sales of more than 20 million units, "In recent years, we have greatly increased sales not only in Japan but also overseas, especially since 2015. Especially since 2015, the ratio of overseas sales has increased to about 70%. The breakdown by area is 1:1 in "Asia including Japan," "North, Central and South America," and "Europe and Australia," with customers from a wide range of countries and regions playing the game. This is due to the localization of the series into 11 languages (*2) since 2015 and the start of distribution for the PC game platform STEAM® in addition to package sales and download sales, which has helped convey the series' appeal to customers in Japan and overseas, especially in the Western area, This has resulted in a dramatic expansion of the fan base. In addition, "Tales of Vesperia REMASTER," the latest title in the series released on January 11, 2019, was the first in the series to be released simultaneously in all regions. The excitement across the entire worldwide market has further accelerated, leading to the 20 million units sold this time," said the company's analysis.
The company plans to release new titles in the "Tales of" series in the future, and will continue to develop for further growth in the global market. Namco Bandai Entertainment aims to bring smiles to the faces of its customers around the world by "making every day an 'asobi-complete day. The company is aiming to realize "Asobi inseparable everyday life," which will bring smiles to the faces of customers around the world.
To commemorate the 20 millionth unit sold, three campaigns including a sale of the downloadable version will be held from today, May 8 (Wed.), so be sure to check them out.
