A new era of girl bands has arrived! Poppin'Party and SILENT SIREN rocked the MetLife Dome with their live performance "NO GIRL NO CRY" DAY1 Report
Poppin'Party and SILENT SIREN held their live vs. live "NO GIRL NO CRY" DAY1 on May 18, 2019 at MetLife Dome in Tokorozawa, Saitama, Japan.
This live was announced at "TOKYO MX presents "BanG Dream! 7th☆LIVE" DAY3: Poppin'Party 'Jumpin' Music♪" in February 2019. Poppin'Party, a girls' band born from "Bandoli-!", will hold a live concert against SILENT SIREN, a girls' band formed 10 years ago.
Roselia appeared as a guest act on the first day of the live. They opened the live with "LOUDER," "R," "BRAVE JEWEL," and "Hot Color Starmine. The venue was the semi-open-air MetLife Dome, and the air was clear due to the early summer breeze. The air was clear, and even when viewing through binoculars from the very back of the venue, the view was clear and very easy to see. In the vast venue, the front line of Aina Aiba, the absolute center vocalist, flanked by Yuki Nakajima and Haruka Kudo, the red and blue wings of the band, was again a very picturesque sight. Then, at the back of the stage, Megu Sakuragawa's powerful drums echoed, while Kabaon Shizaki's brilliant keyboard playing shone through. As if in response to the performance, the stadium, a unique place, was dyed purple. The last song was "Hot Color Starmine," and Roselia did a great job as the starter of the live performance by shooting fireworks into the stadium.
The smiles on the faces of the five members were dazzling! Happy stage for the first attack, Poppipa!
As the tension in the venue was rising with the video clip of the moment of the announcement of the live and the VTR of the announcement with the comments on their enthusiasm for the live against Roselia, Poppin'Party appeared on stage! The use of the giant screen for "Kizuna Music♪" was impressive, with the characters singing on the screen in time with the timing of each member's solo part, and the expressions of the five members singing on stage shown in five different sections, all in a dome-like effect. In the latter half of the show, an illustration used in the ED of the 13th episode of the "BanG Dream! 2ndSeason" anime was also displayed on the screen, showing the expansion of "Kizuna" to include characters other than Poppipa.
During "B.O.F.," a part of the stage carrying the members and the band set started to move toward the center of the venue during the performance. The presence of the band set made it difficult for the girls' band to use such a stage direction as a trolley to go around the audience seats, which is a fate of girls' bands. The solution to this problem was to move the stage itself with the entire drum set, a play that is possible only at a dome live performance. Aimi (Gt.&Vo.) also commented, "Isn't a movable acrylic stage amazing! That's what idols use!" She was very excited. For "Happy Happy Party!" two giant trolleys (self-propelled, not human-powered, as is often the case) took the audience around the perimeter of the stadium for the performance. Ayasa Ito (Key) played on a shoulder keyboard, and Ayaka Ohashi (Dr.) played standing on a simple drum set. Ms. Ohashi, who usually plays at the drum set, looked thrilled: "I can't believe I can be so close to the audience! He seemed thrilled to be able to be so close to the audience.
The five returned to the stage and talked about the growth of Poppipa in the anime. The interlude of the song was memorable for the high level of skill in the guitar and bass tones, as well as for the eerie synchronization of Ito-san and Aimi-san's movements as they raised their fingers in the chorus of "Dreamers Go!
Teardrops," a song they have been performing for a long time, was of solid quality and one of the coolest songs Poppipa has ever performed. Here, the movable stage moved to the back of the venue again. The audience looking up from the arena must have had a strange experience of seeing the band members performing from below and from behind. When the movable stage returned to the main stage in the second half of the song, Rimi Nishimoto (ba.) turned to the side and back (there were audience members on both sides), shaking her hair and showing a high degree of freedom in her bass playing.
The second half of "Teardrops" led into "August no if" on the movable stage that had been moved to the middle of the arena. This song was a twin-vocal piece by Ohashi and Aimi, who sang emotionally and softly but powerfully. The main screen was used to capture the members' facial expressions, showing Sae Otsuka (Gt.) smiling pleasantly with her eyes closed as she played the song, and Aimi and Ohashi facing each other as they sang the song. Personally, I have often seen this song from diagonally behind me at the Budokan, so I was finally able to feel the presence of the two standing side by side from directly in front of me.
After the announcement of the performers for "Poppin'Party Fan Meeting Tour 2019!", the audience was once again taken on the trolley ride to get closer to the audience in the stands for "Kira Kira Itadakatta Yume Itadakatta ~Sing Girls~". I was so happy to see Ohashi-san smiling as he and Ito-san made hearts with their hands while beating the drums and waving sticks for the standing performance. On the other trolley, Aimi sang her solo with a deep expression on her face, and behind her, Ms. Otsuka turned around and looked at her tenderly, which created a great atmosphere.
The next song, "NO GIRL NO CRY," was a new song for this live performance, and it was a song that allowed the audience to enjoy the different arrangements based on the personalities of Poppin'Party and SILENT SIREN. Ms. Nishimoto jumped up on the stand and went wild, Ms. Ito encouraged the audience with her cute choreography, and Ms. Otsuka supported the stage with her solid performance. Behind Aimi's smile, I could see Ohashi with a big smile on her face.
As the sun was about to go down and the night was about to fall, Poppin'Party brought out "Time Lapse," which began with "The sun went down and the voices became stars," which could only have been timed to coincide with the first day of Poppin'Party's performance. The audience shouted "Oh..." and the atmosphere was completely set for Poppin'Party's last number, "STAR BEAT! The glittering lights and psylliums filled the venue, illuminating the stage as stars.
Otsuka's mischievous smile as she approached the camera was very attractive. The five members of Poppipa seemed to be enjoying themselves from start to finish, and I thought that alone was worth the effort of holding a live performance in a dome. In response to Ms. Nishimoto's call of "Sing it for me! and the happy chorus of "Lalalala..." echoed through the dome.
The audience was filled with the spirit of entertainment and the solid skills of the band! SILENT SIREN of the first day
The second half of the first day's live was SILENT SIREN's turn. After the intermission, the intro of "Fujiyama Disco" already overwhelmed me with Aina Yamauchi's (Ainyan) bass skills. The somewhat inorganic rhythms of the soundtrack gave the impression of being pleasant to the ear and addictive at a live performance, but I was surprised to hear how much more live the live sound would be at a live concert at a large venue. I was also impressed by the gorgeous and elegant appeal of Ms. Yukako Kurosaka (Yukarun) (Key.), who wielded a Juliana-esque sense of style. The harmony of Ms. Yamauchi's subdued vocal over the cute vocals of Ms. Violet Yoshida (Gt. & Vo.) in "A Night in August" was a nice touch. The solid technical skills of each part of the band and the weight of their activities over the past 10 years can be clearly felt.
Mr. Yoshida said, "It's finally here! NO GIRL NO CRY! The volume of voices I've never experienced before, and this is the first time in a dome! Thank you for choosing us as your opponent! Then they launched into "Guru Guru Wonderland". As the name implies, this was a towel song in which the audience was spinning towels in a circular motion. They made full use of the movable stage to move around the venue, making the dome a whirling vortex of towels. Yamauchi's service spirit was impressive as she went up to the helicopter on the stage and stirred up the audience by raising the base head and crouching down to wave to the fans nearby.
With the sound of the drums and festival drums coming from the belly of Hinako Umemura (Hinanchu), Mr. Yoshida said, "Let's all get festive together!" and "What show is it ? to "What show is it ? The rhinoceros of the rhinoceros is the rhinoceros of the festival! The audience responded with a chorus of "wasshoi! The audience responded with a chorus of "Wasshoi! The audience responded with a chorus of "wassho!" and after warming up the venue further with a call and response of "oh oh oh oh", they went on to "beesan". The cute and pop voice echoed to the rhythm of "oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo".
Ms. Yoshida described the relationship between POPIPA and Saisai as "comrades-in-arms. She talked about how she and the Poppipa members interact with each other, going out to eat together and seeing each other perform live. "We are good friends, but we want to improve each other. I'm glad you made us your friends!" He happily expressed his gratitude. Umemura-san, the drummer, reported that he felt a similarity between "August if" and "August Night" at the first Poppipa concert he saw, and that Ohashi-san started sending him casual, everyday e-mails. The members of Saisai said that they felt a push from the girls in the app "Galpa," who seemed to relate to the girls' youthful enthusiasm for girl bands as if they were like them.
After the long MC, they performed "NO GIRL NO CRY/SILENT SIREN Ver.", a song inspired by the relationship between POPIPA and Sai Sai. The same song could be so differently arranged and performed by different members, which was a fun and exciting part of the band's performance. On the other hand, the band sang comically about their love for Tenka Ippin in "Tenka Ippin Theme" with the sound of chimera. The gap between melodious and emotional renditions of phrases such as "Kotteri - Ajisane -" was so interesting that it was almost unfair.
At this point, Mr. Yamauchi and Mr. Kurosaka announced that an additional show of their current live tour would be held on June 10. The fact that they had brought tickets with them today showed their high motivation to win the hearts of new fans at the Dome and return home. The first song of the last spurt was "Girls' School War. The song was called out by Ms. Kurosaka on keyboard, and it was interesting that the camera often focused on her stirring up the audience during the live. The dizzying camerawork was eye-catching, such as when Ms. Yoshida and Mr. Yamauchi faced each other in session play, captured by the camera on the back side of Mr. Umemura's drummer.
Mr. Yamauchi said, "You're not ready for this yet! Come on! Monster". Monster" with Mr. Yamauchi on main vocals, a song with a cooler and harder worldview. In the last spurt, Mr. Yoshida's vocal part increased, making the duet even more spectacular. This song reminded the audience of the breadth of Sai Sai's performance.
The last number was "Koi no Esper. It is a comical number that is even somewhat humorous, but the tension of Mr. Yoshida's gorgeous vocals and the band's performance as a whole seemed to lead to a major and lively performance that was appropriate for the end of the concert. What surprised me was that the band stopped the sound in a flash during the performance, and then showed a maniacal performance, saying, "We just used our psychic powers to stop time at the MetLife Dome. While time was stopped, I'm going to transform into Poppa-chan!" and suddenly performed a passage from "Tokimeki Experience! During the encore, Poppin' Poppa-chan performed "Poppin' Poppa-chan" and "Poppin' Poppa-chan".
For encore, Poppin'Party and SILENT SIREN appeared together. Mr. Yoshida asked the audience, "Don't you want to see a collaboration between Poppin'Party and Poppipa? Are you ready to dance? and they all performed "Cherry Bomb" together. This song is by SILENT SIREN and was covered by Poppin'Party in "GARUPA". With silver tapes and hearts dancing in the air, the counterparts of both bands lined up side by side, smiling and exchanging sounds as they played together.
(The last performance of the first day of the Dome show was a truly enjoyable and happy time.)
