Anisama 15th year anniversary project! Anisama Playback! The 2nd Animelo Summer Live 2006 -OUTRIDE- "Hare Hare Yukai" shocked the Budokan on the legendary stage!

Animelo Summer Live" (Anisama), the world's largest anime song event that brings together the top artists in the anime song world, will celebrate its 15th anniversary this summer with "Animelo Summer Live 2019 -STORY-" (Anisama 2019).

To commemorate this anniversary year of Anisama, Akiba Research Institute has started a series of articles looking back on the past Anisamas!

Let's get excited about "Anisama 2019," which will be held over the three days of August 30, 31, and September 1, 2019, by having writers who love anime and anime songs talk about their memories and footage from those days!

So, the second installment is "Animelo Summer Live 2006 -OUTRIDE-", which was held at the Nippon Budokan, a sacred place for musicians!

This time, too, writer Atsushi Saeki looks back on the event based on the DVD footage of the event.

Animelo Summer Live 2006 -OUTRIDE

Date: July 8, 2006

Venue: Nippon Budokan

Theme song: "OUTRIDE" Lyrics: Masami Okui / Composed by Hironobu Kageyama / Arranged by Yogo Kono

The second "Anisama 2005" was realized in accordance with the words of Hironobu Kageyama, who said in the last MC of the memorable first "Anisama 2005," "I want to do it again next year. The stage was moved to the Nippon Budokan, where "Animelo Summer Live 2006 -OUTRIDE-" was held.

Speaking of Nippon Budokan, Kyosuke Himuro, vocalist of the rock band BOOWY, gave the MC speech "Welcome to Live House Budokan" at the "Just a Hero Tour" Budokan concert held in 1986, which is still talked about today. Exactly 20 years later. Exactly 20 years later, a festival of anime songs was held at the "Live House Budokan.

This time, in order to liven up the live performance, the radio program "A&G Super Radio Show - Anispa," which was aired every Saturday night on Bunka Hoso, was used as a PR program by the artists! ~The day of the festival was even more exciting than the previous one, with the PR program "Anisama STATION" broadcast by the performing artists on the radio program "A&G Cho-RADIO SHOW ~ANISPA!

When considering "Anisama 2006," which took place at the Budokan, the sacred rock venue, and was subtitled "OUTRIDE" with the theme of "driving force" to go even further, one must first be aware of the prosperity of anime songs performed by voice actor units that originated from the works. The previous year's "Anisama 2005" had a strong nuance of anime song singers who had been singing anime songs in a sort of backstage role taking the stage and performing as artists.

On the other hand, 2005 was the year that "THE IDOLM@STER" debuted as an arcade game, which has now grown into a huge composite content that crosses various genres such as games, animation, and music. The same year also saw the broadcast of the anime "Magical Teacher Negima! aired in the same year, and as many as 31 heroines appeared in the anime "Magical Teacher Negima! The OP theme "Happy☆Material" was sung by six voice actresses who portrayed the heroines and sang in six different units, rotating each month. The soundtracks were also released on CD every month (all with different arrangements!). This was an unprecedented development. Since the appearance of "Happy☆Material," which was highly acclaimed not only for its release format but also for its music itself, the trend of voice actors who appear in anime forming units and singing the theme songs to establish a close relationship between the work and its music has been gaining support among anime fans (see the following article for more information on the voice actor units that originated on the program). (Of course, it is a prerequisite that there have been many anime songs sung by voice actor units that originated from TV programs for a long time.) This was a new trend that differed from the traditional "character songs" in which the voice actors played the characters and sang, or from the old-school anime songs in which the title was repeatedly called out.

In addition, the video sharing service YouTube was launched in 2005. This was a major factor in making it possible for anyone to easily publish and share video and audio content on the Internet. In particular, "I tried singing and dancing" type videos became popular from an early stage.

Anisama 2005 was held at a time when the situation surrounding anime and anime songs was beginning to change dramatically, and Anisama 2006, held the following year, tried to be the first to adopt these trends.

One symbol of this trend was "The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya," which began broadcasting in April 2006 and was full of elements that grabbed the hearts of anime fans at the time, such as beautiful images by Kyoto Animation, appealing characters, and a story filled with a science fiction mindset. The ED theme, "Hare Hare Re Yukai," was particularly popular.

Aya Hirano, Minori Chihara, Ouko Goto

The image of Haruhi Suzumiya (played by Aya Hirano), Yuki Nagato (played by Minori Chihara), and Mikuru Asahina (played by Ouko Goto) singing along to a lively song by Tomokazu Tashiro, while the members of the SOS-dan perform a snappy dance was quite shocking. The vivid dance performance had such an impact that it completely changed the way anime was presented before and after "Haruhi." It overturned the conventional wisdom that dance in anime is "abbreviated to look like it" or presented with simple movements that do not require many drawing calories.

At the same time, it did not take long for anime fans to actually "try dancing" after seeing the videos that were so appealing that they "felt like they could actually imitate" and "wanted to imitate and dance. It was inevitable that YouTube was chosen as the place to publish the videos.

Then, the next question was, "I want to see the singers themselves singing and dancing! It is human nature to want to see the singers themselves singing and dancing. The performance of "Hare Hare Yukai" by SOS Dan (Hirano, Chihara, and Goto) at Anisama 2006, for the first time in the history of anime songs, seemed to be the timing when this momentum reached its climax. The stage performance, in which the actors who portray the characters sang and danced as they do in the anime, must have shocked and moved the audience as if the characters themselves had jumped out of the stage and into the real world. In other words, this stage was a historical stage that symbolically expressed the concept of "voice actors in 2.5 dimensions," and it was because of this impact that it became a pioneering moment when it became commonplace for voice actor units from later works to perform live.

It goes without saying that in recent years, voice actor units from works have become an indispensable part of Anisama. Moreover, their performances, which are not likely to be seen again if they are missed at Anisama, are surely the motivation - the "driving force" - for audiences to come to Anisama.

However, the "Hare Hare Yukai" stage is not included in the "Anisama 2006" DVD currently on sale. This article was also written by gathering fragments from people who knew the event and records of the time. It seems to be typical of Anisama, which continues to create new legends every year, that only those who were there on that day can truly speak of that historic moment.

The song "Hare Hare Yukai" by Hirano, Chihara, and Goto was performed again at "Anisama 2017" as a surprise. After 11 years, the story has been recovered.

Other noteworthy additions to the lineup included ALI PROJECT, Tomoaki Ishikawa, and savage genius, all of whom represent a new generation of ani-song artists, whose songs have the popularity and timelessness of J-POP, but are also in tune with their works. ALI PROJECT sang "Sei Shoujo Ryouiki", the OP theme of the anime "Rozen Maiden Troimento", with vocalist Alika Takarano brandishing a whip, and Tomoaki Ishikawa sang the ED theme of the anime "Mobile Suit Gundam SEED", "Such and Such We Were Together". Then savage genius sang "Forever...", the OP theme of the anime "Elemental Jade" as if they were enjoying the festival, using the aisles that stretched around the venue to go around the outer perimeter.

It was impressive to see that each member of the group expressed anime songs in their own style without being intimidated by the grand stage of the Nippon Budokan.

The same was true of KENN with The NaB's' "Wake Up Your Heart" in terms of the artist I mentioned earlier, who you may never see again if you miss his stage performance at "Anisama. At the time, KENN was a member of the band "The NaB's," but it was around this time that he also began his career as a voice actor, beginning with his role as Judai Yuuki in "Yu-Gi-Oh Duel Monsters GX" in 2004. The band had to take a break in October of the same year, so this must have been a valuable stage for fans.

The now legendary "r.o.r/s" unit of Masami Okui and Chihiro Yonekura was also unforgettable. r.o.r/s had been a limited-time-only unit in 2003, but they made a one-night comeback on this day, performing "Candy Lie" to the delight of the audience. The audience was very excited. It is sometimes a special event to see groups that have already finished their activities come back only for Anisama.

Yoshi Ishida

Aiko Kayo appeared with a dancer holding a big fan and sang "Ai ni Ne Motto", the ED theme of "Tenjo Tenga". Her pink costume and lights created a sensational atmosphere. Ms. Kayo originally debuted as an idol and later became a voice actress with her distinctive voice. The lineup of Kayo and KENN is a testament to the diversification of routes into the worlds of anime and voice acting.

This was the first Budokan appearance for vocalist Yuka Saegusa of "Yuka Saegusa IN db," a group from the J-POP world. The audience jumped up and down to "Everybody Jump" and the temperature of the venue rose. The audience jumped and jumped to "Everybody Jump" and the temperature of the venue rose. Then, they invited their labelmate and "Anisama senior" Rina Aiuchi, who had appeared on stage in 2005, to perform "100 Doors," the OP theme of "Detective Conan," in a duet with the two in sexy costumes. Aiuchi took the baton and sang "GLORIOUS", the image song of the game "Another Century's Episode 2", and "MIRACLE-Allegro. vivace mix-", the ED theme of the anime "Melhaven", in a refreshing performance.

Of course, the artists who performed last year were not to be missed.

Among them, JAM Project and Nana Mizuki, who performed the last part of the show, were the core of the excitement again this year.

JAM Project played "GONG", the OP theme of the game "The 3rd Super Robot Taisen Alpha", and then stirred up the audience with "GARO~SAVIOR IN THE DARK~", the OP theme of the special effects drama "GARO<GARO>", followed by "SKILL" (the OP theme of the game "The 2nd Super Robot Taisen Alpha") and "SAVIOR IN THE DARK~", the OP theme of the game "The 3rd Super Robot Taisen Alpha". OP theme "SKILL" (Mr. Ishida, Mr. Kuribayashi, and Ms. Yonekura also participated this time)! This winning pattern has become a regular feature not only at Anisama but also at other events.

JAM Project

Nana Mizuki's performance seemed to have been further polished by her experience at Anisama 2005.

First, male and female dancers spread out across the stage, and they stirred up the audience with their claps. Then Mizuki-san appeared from the back of the stage in a bright red dress and started "SUPER GENERATION". She sang "innocent starter", the OP theme of the anime "Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha", and "Hime murasaki", the ED theme of the anime "Basilisk: Koga Ninpocho". The song paired with "WILD EYES," the ED theme of the anime "Basilisk: Koga Ninpocho," which she performed at "Anisama 2005," and was an irresistible choice for fans who had attended the event two years in a row. The final song was her anthem, "ETERNAL BLAZE", the OP theme of the anime "Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha A's". The fire pillar, which is a familiar sight at her solo live performances, was also very hot!

Nana Mizuki

The live reached its climax when all the performers appeared on stage. The theme song "OUTRIDE," with lyrics by Okui and music by Kageyama, was sung by the various performers as they relayed the microphone back and forth.

This scene reminded us of the beginning of the "chaotic" era in which the anisong scene is undergoing a major transformation, while at the same time implying that Anisama has begun to function as a "place" that accepts diverse expressions and performers and connects the anisong culture to the next era.

At the same time, the fact that an anime song event was held at the Budokan, a sacred place recognized by all, and closed with a great success, proved to the public that anime songs are an important part of culture and not just a transient movement. I think it was a proof to the public that anime songs are an important part of culture and not just a transient movement.

In many ways, Anisama 2006 was the driving force behind the growth of Anisama into an event with a long history.
