My heart will turn to magic, and the "Wataru the Magical Hero & King Granzort the Demon King" exhibition, packed with interesting and cool exhibits, will start on November 22!
In 2019, the commemorative year of 30 years since "Wataru: The Legend of Heroes" finished broadcasting and 30 years since "Mado King Granzort" started broadcasting, "Wataru: The Legend of Heroes" and "Mado King Granzort" will open on November 22, 2019, with a special exhibition of the works through various materials including precious documents and original drawings by animators including Toyo Ashida, who worked on character design. The exhibition "Wataru: The Legend of Heroes & Granzort, King of the Demons" will start on November 22, 2019.
The exhibition will be held from November 22 to December 15 at "Space J" on the 7th floor of the Seibu Shibuya Store's Movida Building in Tokyo.
The exhibition will feature the latest hobbies of "Wataru" and "Granzort," which are still popular, as well as valuable materials such as planning documents, character designs, mechanical designs, storyboards, and scripts. There will also be storyboards, scripts, and panels of illustrations used in anime magazines and package jackets. In addition, original illustrations by Toyo Ashida, who designed the characters, and other popular animators, which are stored at Sunrise, are on display, and are sure to delight fans of both "Wataru" and "Granzort" works!
Let us introduce you to a little bit of the interesting and cool venue.
As you go down the escalator, the first thing that catches your eye is an oversized panel featuring all the main characters of "Wataru" and "Granzort". Personally, I was fascinated by the fact that Kibamiko, the enemy character from the radio drama "The Heroic Monsters of Wataru 3," was also depicted on the panel!
The latest hobbies were also on display. A wide variety of items for both "Wataru" and "Granzort" are scheduled to appear from various manufacturers. The "Evil Toramaru" by Chikaneri was on display for the first time at this event.
In addition, items from the latest "Wataru: The Legend of Heroes" and examples from model magazines such as "Hobby Japan" and "Model Graphix" will also be on display.
One of the main attractions of the exhibition is this. One of the main attractions of the exhibition is the valuable materials of the past works.
In the planning document for "Wataru," it can be seen that the company was very conscious of the popularity of "Bikkuriman" at the time, and it is interesting to note the use of the alias "Azoth" for "Granzoth.
And in the "Majin Hero Den Wataru 2" corner, a Ryusei-Maru prototype for studying the transformation mechanism, which was created based on a preparatory draft, was displayed! This is rare. This early version, with a form completely different from the one that appears on the screen, is a must-see.
In addition, a prototype of Granzote for studying its transformation mechanism and a toy prototype of the magic gun are also on display. The wooden prototypes are a unique feature of Showa-era toys!
Celluloid pictures, scripts, and storyboards were also on display.
The storyboards, in particular, can be held in one's hands for a closer look.
Materials on the latest work, "The Heroic Legend of Wataru: The Seven Spirits of Ryujinmaru," which is still shrouded in mystery, are also on display.
A closer look reveals that each version of the Ryujin Maru incorporates the designs of the previous "Maru-Majin. What kind of drama will unfold? ......
Also on display are illustrations used in magazines, VHS and DVD packages, as well as original drawings by character designer Toyo Ashida and others. This is a rare opportunity to see the warm and powerful touch of the illustrations up close!
Although the exhibition hall itself is not that large, every single thing on display is deep! If you take the time to look at the exhibits, you could easily spend several hours there.
There is also a wide range of merchandise for sale, with many items available only at the venue, so don't miss out on your purchase.
During the exhibition period, some of the exhibits will be changed, and autograph sessions will be held on a weekly basis by the staff of the time. In addition, visitors who spend 3,000 yen or more including tax can participate in a raffle drawing for a chance to win a raffle ticket. The conditions for participation and the goods available at the raffle are listed on the official website, so please check there for details.
