Mia REGINA's new album is a collection of covers with a slightly more connoisseur-like selection that focuses on the excitement of a live performance! Mia REGINA "RE! Interview with Mia REGINA

Mia REGINA's "RE!!!RE!!!" is an album of covers of anime and game songs from various genres.
It can be said to be their "starting point" as they had sung many anime song covers during their Dear Stage days before their major label debut. Another "starting point" for the girls is "Aikatsu! (However, they actually chose a song from "Aikatsu Stars! song, which they are not actually in charge of singing, was chosen. (However, a song from "Aikatsu Stars!" was chosen for the project, but the girls were not actually in charge of singing the song.)
The title "RE! has the meaning of "respect, revival, and regina". According to Wakaka Kirishima, "Respect for the artists and works of the original songs. Like us (Mia REGINA) re-enacting (reviving) it (laughs)".
The 10 songs, including solos by all three members, were carefully selected from among the songs that the members have a special attachment to. Among them is the theme song for the adult game "Let's Do It Right, Sis! a game for adults. The selection was made with the intention of singing the songs at live performances, and the audience can clearly feel the will to continue singing them on stage as a part of their repertoire.
We asked him to talk about his feelings toward the original 10 songs and his works.

If we had selected the songs based on taste alone, we would have ended up with a great sense of variety.

─ ─ The songs in the album cover a wide range of genres, don't they?

Kirishima: Kaede Ura-san is not very familiar with anime, so it was mainly me and Risuko (Sasakama) who decided on songs that we thought were "our kind of songs.

Uehana: I listened to a lot of songs when choosing, and I thought, "This one is good, this one is good, and this one is good! What should we do? (laugh).

Kirishima: We started by bringing our favorite songs together, and then the choices expanded to "This artist has this song, too, right? The choices expanded (laughs). (Laughs) So we decided to limit the number of songs to one per artist. Then, we came up with a list of candidates, and repeated meetings were held to decide which to choose from among them. We had a lot of meetings like that.

Sasakama: We really just chose songs we liked without thinking about it, and it ended up like a buffet (laughs).

Kirishima We said it would be nice to have a few songs with male vocals, but in the end we ended up with about half of the songs (laughs).

Sasakama: But when I actually sang the song, I wasn't really aware that it was a male-vocal song. I thought a lot about how to sing it to suit the arrangement for this time.

Uehana: I might have been conscious of it. Male-vocal songs tend to sound gentle if you are not careful, so I was conscious of making it sound cool. But I sang the songs with my best imagination of what it would be like to sing as Mia REGINA.

Let's start with JAM Project's "VICTORY".

Kirishima: Kirishima is a senior member of Lantis, and is also known as an ani-song artist, so I definitely wanted to include a song by JAM Project! I had this in mind from the very beginning. Since it was a great opportunity for us, we narrowed down the list of songs that would be interesting for the three of us to sing together and decided on this one.

Sasakama: If it was a song that we could get excited about with the audience at a live concert, I knew it would be JAM Project's song. I also felt that it would be the "title" song. Then, "Victory" was chosen because of the image of the interaction with the audience at a live performance.

Uehana: JAM Project is very famous, and they are very senior. However, I don't usually sing songs like this, so I was looking forward to seeing how it would turn out before recording.

───How did you feel when you actually sang the song?

Uehana: It was quite difficult to sing. But when I heard the finished product, I thought, "Oh, maybe it's good! I thought (laughs).

───What made you choose "My Pace Daioh"?

Sasakama: I chose "Genshiken" not only because it was my favorite anime, but also because it was broadcast at the time when I started to do a lot of otaku activities myself. So I had a strong attachment to the song even back then. Even when I listen to it now, the memories of it never fade, so I thought I'd like to sing a little bit about it here (laughs).

Kirishima: I also watched "Genshiken" back then and thought, "College clubs sound fun! I want to join one too! I wish I could be a part of it! I wanted to be a part of it!" And the depiction of Comiket made me think, "That's just how it is, isn't it? I get it! I know what you mean! I thought it would be nice to have a nostalgic feeling, remembering those days. Also, once you hear the song, you can instantly join in with the chorus. I chose this song because I felt that it must be fun to sing it live and get the audience excited.

Uehana: When I first heard the song, I thought it sounded like it would be fun too. So I sang it with a bit of a hot and lively feeling in mind (laughs).
