The key visual, first cast, performance schedule, and ticket sales information for the stage "The Rise of the Shield Heroes" were announced on November 27, 2019.

The "Rise of the Shield Hero" is a popular light novel by Aneko Yusagi that was first published on the novel submission site "Shosetsu-kaerou" (Novelist) and then published in book form by MF Books (KADOKAWA) in 2013. Iwatani Naofumi is an otaku college student who is summoned to another world as one of the heroes. He sets out on a journey to train to protect the world, but is betrayed by his friends after only a few days. This fantasy work depicts the rise of a man who has lost all his money and position.

An animated TV series was broadcast in January 2019. The anime's production staff includes Takao Abo as director, Keigo Koyanagi as series composition, Masahiro Suwa as character design and chief animation director, Hiroki Gobun as sound director, and Kevin Penkin as music. Kinema Citrus is in charge of animation production; a stage adaptation of "The Rise of the Shield's Hero" was set for September 2019.
