Midterm Review of Fall 2019 Anime by Anime Writers [Anime Column].

Midterm Review of Fall 2019 Anime. Sexy water battle race "Kandagawa JET GIRLS," otherworldly fantasy based on "Kakuyom," "Careful Yusha: This Yusha is Too Careful for My TUEEE," two-cour original anime "Kabukicho Sherlock," new series "Pokemon," and the famous dog of the Nohara family hero and "SUPER SHIRO", five works will be introduced.

Kandagawa JET GIRLS

A club activity anime about high school girls who take on the fictional sport of jet racing. Jet racing is a two-person competition that is a combination of a survival game and boat racing (boat race), and the first team to reach the finish line while using a water gun to sabotage the other team is the winner.
The passionate story of devoting one's youth to club activities and the sparkling surface of the water in the OP/ED draw the viewer's attention, but the colors on the screen are surprisingly dark. The main story after the prologue begins before dawn when the main character, Rin Namiki, leaves for Tokyo, and the student dormitory where she lives and the retro club room, reminiscent of a boathouse, are conspicuously dark in scenes with no sunlight. Her partner, Misa Aoi, is also memorable as she sits in a gymnasium under a bunk bed, as if to escape the fluorescent light.
Although the race takes place under blue skies, the battle unfolds even in the shade because it takes place on the Kanda River, which has many bridges. The film is fascinating in its control of light and shade, and this is most evident in the scene in which the water gun is used to attack the competitors. As soon as the uniforms are purged and the heroines' bare skin is exposed, the screen is enveloped in a supernatural light that defies the laws of physics. This is one of the most high-contrast anime of fall 2019.

Careful Yusha - This Yusha is too careful for my TUEEE!

An adventure fantasy about a new goddess, Listarte, who summons a 1-in-100 million gifted human to save a difficult S-class world, but is impossibly cautious. It is a common belief that heroes come in late, but the key point of this work is that the reason is "because he is cautious. The victims who are pushed around by such heroes are impressive, and even the slime that is overkilled in the first episode shows a creepy animation that cannot be seen in other other otherworldly stories.
Among them, the heroine Rista's hard-working character is outstanding. She is too healthy to be a goddess, performing facial tricks and throwing out raw milk, while trying her best to support the heroes. Aio Toyosaki, who plays Rista, is also a light-hearted comic actor, and the 30 minutes passes at a brisk pace. The ED animation with the dancing Rista dolls also has a somewhat mysterious charm.

Kabukicho Sherlock

Original mystery anime by Production I.G. The setting is the Pipe Cat, a bar in Kabukicho, Shinjuku Dist. where six detectives, including Sherlock Holmes, who loves rakugo (Japanese comic storytelling), engage in a guessing game. In addition to the regular members, such as the slightly long-faced Holmes and the longhaired Watson, the guest characters who appear in each episode of the one-part mystery are unforgettable.
There is a wide variety of characters, ranging from a cool rock musician and a lanky sumo wrestler to a band member who always wears a headdress, and they come in all ages, races, and genders. We are reminded once again that dubious clients and suspects are indispensable to a mystery. The unexpected use of the element of rakugo is also unique. The characters' names are derived from mystery novels, and Sherlock's nemesis is assigned to an unexpected person. It is a work that makes you want to try to guess what will happen next.

Pokemon (new series)

The latest installment in the "Pokemon" series returns to its roots with a title without a subtitle, and the first episode depicts the interaction between Pichu and Garula and their son. The sequence in which the story progresses with only the cries of the Pokémon is reminiscent of the moonlit conversation between Pikachu and Caterpie shown in the third episode of the first series. The finish of the film, which also features a number of first-generation Pokémon, will bring nostalgia to fans of the parents' generation who have been exposed to the work for a long time.
While the previous "Sun & Moon" film was a hit when Satoshi finally won the Pokémon League for the first time, this time around, for the first time in the series, a double protagonist is used. The new character, Gou, has a dream of acquiring all Pokémon, including the phantom Pokémon Mew, which he met as a child. What kind of a pair will this confident character become with Satoshi?

SUPER SHIRO

The mascot character Shiro from "Crayon Shin-chan" fights to obtain the Bobo Bobo Bone, a bone with the power to conquer the earth in this hero animation. The sequence of discovery, battle, and victory is completely patterned, and is characterized by the persistent repetition of the same action within the episodes. It even expresses a funny aspect in which the means of obstruction itself becomes the objective while interfering with the opponent, and it can lead to meaningless fights. ......
The stylistic beauty of Shiro running with only his tail and cape fluttering without moving his body at all and the explosion that always occurs every time are also extreme, creating an addictive quality that is more like watching a cartoon by Tex Avery or Hanna-Barbera than a Japanese anime. Shiro's owner Shinnosuke also makes a guest appearance, but his face is never shown.
