Anisama 15th year anniversary project! Anisama Playback! The 4th "Animelo Summer Live 2008 -Challenge-" was a monumental two-day event that established the format up to the present day!

Animelo Summer Live" (hereafter, "Anisama"), the world's largest anime song event that brings together the top artists in the anime song world, will celebrate its 15th anniversary this summer with "Animelo Summer Live 2019 -STORY-" (hereafter, "Anisama 2019").

To commemorate this anniversary year of Anisama, Akiba Research Institute has started a series of articles looking back on the past Anisamas!

Let's get excited about "Anisama 2019," which will be held over the three days of August 30, 31, and September 1, 2019, by having anime song-loving writers talk about their memories and videos as they look back on the event!

So, for our fourth installment, we'll be looking at "Animelo Summer Live 2008 -Challenge-," which has been further enhanced with an even more diverse lineup of performers and staging!

Animelo Summer Live 2008 -Challenge

After the names of the participating artists were read out one after another by motsu (m.o.v.e.), Nana Mizuki & Yukari Tamura popped up on the stage. They appeared in matching school uniforms of high-waisted sailor suits and light blue pleated skirts, but with different details: Mizuki in a yellow tie and Tamura in a pink ribbon. They sang an Anisama-specific medley that combined Tamura's own song, "Koisai Shoujo" (OP theme of the anime "Gokujo Gakusei Kai"), and Mizuki's song, "Anone - Mamimume★Mocho" (OP theme of the anime "Mamimume★Mocho"). Mizuki was a little mature, but at times adorable. Tamura was cute and sometimes glamorous. Their girl-talking, high-school-girl-like appearance matched the arrangement of the songs they sang in turns.

This is how Animelo Summer Live 2008 started. The theme for this year was "Challenge. The venue was the Saitama Super Arena (SSA), whose capacity had been greatly increased from the previous two years and the previous year's Nippon Budokan. The dates were moved from July to the last weekend in August (August 30, 31, and September 1 in 2019) and to 2 DAYS (3 DAYS from 2012 and 2013). In addition to the opening special session, which has been the highlight of Anisama since its inception in 2005, the overall structure of the festival, which is held over multiple days, has been maintained up to the present day (2018), and can be said to be the year when the format of Anisama was completed.

One of the "challenges" was the appointment of Yukari Tamura, who was making her first appearance at the festival this year, as a special session and as the top performer. After the session, Ms. Tamura opened the "Yukarin Kingdom" at the SSA, making it a memorable summer experience. In March of the same year, Ms. Tamura also performed at the Nippon Budokan ("Love Live 2008 *Chelsea Girl*"), where she burst into "Melon's Theme - Yukari Kingdom National Anthem," which was created during the live performance.

Furthermore, the two-day event presented the inevitable challenge of having more first-time contestants than in the previous year. Therefore, as mentioned above, Tamura, who was a first-time contestant, and Yozuca* and CooRie, who were both first-time contestants, were joined by Yoyoko Ishida, who had participated in the first contest in 2005 and 2006, singing two of her representative songs, "STRIKE WITCHES ~what I can do~" and others. m.o.v. was followed by AAA, and then AAA. e to AAA, the order of the first contestants was of course based on the Avex sound, with its electro upper tunes that excite the audience, but m.o.v.e, which had a supreme song, "Gamble Rumble," and had made the previous year's event a great success, led AAA in its first appearance. Looking back, however, I did not expect motsu to make it to the contest for 11 consecutive years until 2017, regardless of whether it was a regular, surprise, or session contest. GRANRODEO, now known as a rock anison unit, also participated for the first time in 2008, and there may have been some anison fans who were exposed to "rock" for the first time through KISHOW's aori and e-ZUKA's guitar playing.

Looking back, however, my impression of the first day, including the first-time performers, was that I was given a taste of straight ani-song. In fact, AKINO from bless4, savage genius, Minami Kuribayashi (now Minami), Suara, Minori Chihara, Masami Okui, ALI PROJECT, and Nana Mizuki, who played the two major roles of opening and closing the first day of the festival. The animation song singers, who could excite a concert hall, appeared on stage in a row.

WAV, ave;new feat. Saori Sakura, and Lia, as well as those from the underground field such as miko from "Marisa stole something terrible. In this sense, the event was more than a challenge. In this sense, the event was more than a challenge; it also gave the impression of being filled with a spirit of "adventure. Yui Horie, who is recognized by all as one of the top three performers along with Mizuki and Tamura, participated for the first time as a member of the "Black Rose Preservation Society. The chaos and impact of the second day was also strong in the fact that "Domestic Love Band," a junior band (not angela), appeared for the first time and mixed in with the moe song artists mentioned above.

Sound Horizon, who had too large a lineup to be considered one of the participating artists; Aya Hirano, who has been a guest on stage at Anisama many times, and who seems to know her way around the stage; and Eriko Nakamura, Asami Imai, and Tomohiro Takahashi, who brought their passionate fanbase to Anisama. Eriko Nakamura, Asami Imai, Tomoaki Takahashi, and Asami Shimoda from THE IDOLM@STER brought their passionate fans to Anisama, and ELISA, who was still in her teens after less than a year since her debut, made the lineup too diverse to be categorized as first-time contestants, but this was a great benefit of the two-day event. This was also a great benefit of the two-day event. By clearly dividing the color of the event by day, the breadth of Anisama and Anisong was expressed to a great extent.

Another "drama" awaited the audience on the second day. The special session "I've got a lot of memories! JAM Project + Aki Misato appeared at the beginning of the special session, but Masami Okui, the only member of JAM, was nowhere to be found. After the song, Hironobu Kageyama told the audience that Ms. Okui, who had shown her presence the day before by singing "Rinbu-revolution" with Minori Chihara, had actually forced her way to the stage despite her illness, and that she had been forced to miss the second day of the event due to a medical emergency. For example, Haruko Momoi, who said she was watching from somewhere in the venue, slammed SSA with the words, "I grew up listening to Masami Okui's songs, and I want people to see me singing," and when JAM Project appeared as the last performer, she said, "I'm not a singer. When JAM Project came on stage as the last performer, Hironobu Kageyama had the word "Okui" written on his arm by Toshiyuki Inoue, president of Lantis. Artists not mentioned by name also had their own dramas. Chihiro Yonekura, who was brought in as a pinch hitter on short notice, kept the contestants on their toes at the end of the show. Of course, the fans filling the arena and the stands were also expressing their gratitude to Ms. Okui for her efforts in making the two-night event possible, and I could feel their voices dying and their arms waving with their feelings.

Amidst all this, if one were to ask me about the most memorable time at the 2008 Anisama, personally it was on the first day. It was the turn of Karen Girl's. Although they sang only one song and said only "bye-bye" during their performance, they were very bright and shining at that moment. At Anisama, a miraculous event where artists from different labels and genres compete to sing anime songs, I felt that Karen Girl's was born only for anime, sang and danced only for anime, and disappeared as soon as the anime finished airing. That is why the singing and dancing of the three girls on the aisle on that day sent the nearly 20,000 people in the audience into a frenzy, creating a bigger swell of excitement than could have been imagined, and at the same time, even now, 10 years later, the anime songs are still loved by many people. Anisama, which appears every time summer comes around, has given many people the question, "What is ani-song? Whenever I look back on the history of Anisama as a festival that celebrates ani-song, I cannot help but think of this song along with the many ani-songs that have supported works since the dawn of anime, and of this unit.
