Anisama 15th year anniversary project! Anisama Playback! The unique experience of "Anisama" as seen in the earphones of "THE iDOLM@STER".

Animelo Summer Live" (hereafter, "Anisama"), the world's largest anime song event that brings together the top artists in the anime song world, will celebrate its 15th anniversary this summer with "Animelo Summer Live 2019 -STORY-" (hereafter, "Anisama 2019").

To commemorate this anniversary year of Anisama, Akiba Research Institute has started a series of articles looking back on the past Anisamas!

Let's get excited about "Anisama 2019," which will be held on August 30, 31, and September 1, 2019, by having writers who love anime songs talk about their memories and videos as they look back on the event!

In this fifth installment, we will review "Animelo Summer Live 2009 - RE:BRIDGE-" from a slightly different perspective from our previous reviews. This time, I focused on the ear monitors!

What kind of changes did the equipment and sound bring to Anisama? Let's take a look back with writer Kiri Nakazato, from the perspective of someone who was there to experience it firsthand.

Animelo Summer Live 2009 -RE:BRIDGE

Date: August 22 and 23, 2009

Venue: Saitama Super Arena (stadium mode)

Theme song: "RE:BRIDGE - Return to oneself" lyrics by Masami Okui / music by Minami Kuribayashi / arrangement by Hideyuki Suzuki Daichi

Looking at the 2009 performers and set list, I felt that one of the heyday of Nico Nico Douga as content was around 2007, and that wave had reached Anisama as well.

Tomoaki Ishikawa x angela

Asami Shimoda, the voice of Kagamine Rin/Len, sang "Kokoro" and Hatsune Miku sang "Mikumiku ni shite arau♪ [I'll Make You Do It]" and "Black Rock Shooter". From there, Beat Mario sang "Help me, ERINNNNNN!" from "Touhou Project. sung by Beat Mario. At the time, "Vocaloid," "Touhou," and "iM@S" were considered the three pillars of Nico Douga. The attempt to have the song of a virtual world diva (Hatsune Miku) performed live at a convention center is very advanced even if viewed from today's perspective.

The performers such as Vocaloid, Touhou, and manzo, who had another breakthrough with "Tentai Senshi Sunred" at the time, strongly reflected the zeitgeist of the time, but conversely, the rest of the lineup and choice of songs were much closer to the sensibilities of today. The three voice-over artists from the 2000s, Yui Horie, Yukari Tamura, and Nana Mizuki, as well as Aya Hirano, Minori Chihara, May'n, Masami Okui, and JAM Project (......), are all too gorgeous to be compared with the same group of artists today. Even if they sang the same songs as they did back then, it would still be a great success. I would rather see Ms. Chihara's "Paradise Lost" and Minami Kuribayashi's (now Minami) "Precious Memories" at this year's Anisama. Although Anisama continues to evolve, I think it is fair to say that the foundation for a major anime song live festival based on the Saitama Super Arena venue was almost solidified in 2009.

One more thing I would like to mention is the participation of GACKT, who is not limited to the ani-song world, but is also a leader in inviting big artists from outside of it. In addition to "REDEMPTION," the theme song of the game "Dage of Cerberus Final Fantasy VII" and a song so "strong" that once you hear the chorus, you cannot get it out of your ears, he released a cover of "Mobile Suit Gundam" at the end of 2007. The timing was also good, as he had just released the "0079-0088" album of "Mobile Suit Gundam" songs at the end of 2007. Although "Ai Senshi" is an anime song that everyone knows, GACKT's voice and the excesses of his presence, combined with a sense of melancholy, sublimated it into a unique expression.

Anisama as a place to experience content

In considering the significance of Anisama 2009 in the history of anisong, I personally looked back on the performers and set lists of Anisama Early Days from 2005 to 2008. I hope that readers have been able to get a sense of the atmosphere of those days through this series of articles. What I came to realize is that the early Anisama concerts were mainly for professionals such as ani-song singers, voice actors, and ani-song artists.

The list of 2018 Anisama performers includes Aqours, Poppin'Party, The Idolmaster SideM, Uma Musume, The Idolmaster Million Live! Million Stars, Seina S, and Milky Holmes. If you compare the performers at Anisama from 2005 to 2007, before the event moved to the Saitama Super Arena, with those from later years, you will notice that the colors are quite different. In the early days, there were still a few: "SOS Dan" in 2006, "Karen Girl's" in 2008, and "THE IDOLM@STER" in 2008.

As mentioned in the 2006 review, the anime "Magic Teacher Negima! began airing in January 2005. The arcade game "THE iDOLM@STER" was officially launched in July 2005 (stage live performances at game events were held earlier). This trend of voice actors releasing songs as a unit and performing on stage as a unit was in full swing at the same time as the dawn of Anisama.

Haruko Momoi

There is no doubt that one of the first units to participate in Anisama was "Eriko Nakamura, Asami Imai, Tomoaki Takahashi, and Asami Shimoda from THE IDOLM@STER" in 2008. The individual names of the voice actors also give a sense of groping. At that time, "THE iDOLM@STER" had experienced its anniversary live performance at Pacifico Yokohama, and amazing newcomers such as Aimi Numakura and Yumi Hara had made their impressive debuts. Anisama in 2009.

Eriko Nakamura, Mami Imai, Mayako Nigo from THE IDOLM@STER

For the early days of iM@S (which lasted until around 2010), live performances were more of a "place for fan service and interaction with the fans (producers) who bought the game. This was the message from the main staff at the time, and I have written about it many times. The first step in this process was the realization of the "iDOLM@STER" unit's performance at the 2008 Anisama, but my personal impression is that the answer is no. In terms of cast selection, the "iDOLM@STER" unit was able to fully demonstrate the charm that it usually shows at its home live performances.

In terms of cast selection, I think the cast was perfect, with Nakamura-san and Imai-san leading the "iM@S" cast, Takahashi-san with his outstanding singing ability, and Shimoda-san, a specialist in character singing. The difficult part was that the iM@S team did not have enough know-how to handle the huge Saitama Super Arena, and Anisama, the host of the event, was also building the stage in a new environment, the Saitama Super Arena, which was being used for the first time. The acoustic environment of the venue and what would happen on stage and backstage when the huge Saitama Super Arena was filled to capacity with fans cheering from all directions was still unknown.

Watching over the stage that day was stage director/director Asano Gohtaka, who has worked on numerous concerts for major artists. Mr. Asano became involved with "THE iDOLM@STER" in 2008 after a 5pb. live performance. In later years, I remember Mr. Asano saying of the "Eriko Nakamura, Asami Imai, and Mayako Nigo from THE IDOLM@STER" who performed at Anisama that day, "I felt that I could not allow them to go on stage unarmed.

The biggest difference from the previous year, when the iM@S girls went on stage for the second time at Anisama in 2009, was that they were wearing ear monitors. The biggest difference between the previous year and this year was that the iM@S team had acquired the know-how from experience and brought it in from the outside. I remember that the distinguished members of the iM@S staff arrived at the venue, and they were all determined to send the girls off with the best possible preparation.

For the 2009 Anisama, the iM@S team chose to perform "THE IDOLM@STER," "Kiramekirari," and "my song," featuring Eriko Nakamura, Mami Imai, and Mayako Nigo from THE IDOLM@STER. The composition showed a strong will to break through the monster that was Saitama Super Arena and Anisama with "Kiramekirari" by Yayoi Takatsuki, the strongest force of iM@S at the time in terms of generating explosive excitement at the venue. As a side note, it should be remembered that on the same day, Aimi Numakura and Yumi Hara made their first steps into the history of Anisama at the event in the Keyaki Plaza in front of the arena.

I don't need to tell you about the subsequent rise of iM@S and many other idol-related works as live content. Many works experienced the environment of a huge venue at Anisama, and after experiencing the spectacle, they eventually spread their wings to arena-class and dome-class venues. Anisama has value as a venue for such a rare experience, and the pioneering event was "THE iDOLM@STER" from 2008 to 2009. The lineage of the "Love Live! and Aqours, as well as Nijigasaki Gakuen School Idol Club, which is participating for the first time this year. Also, Poppin'Poppin of "Bandolieri! Poppin'Party and Roselia from "Bandri! It is, so to speak, a kind of property of the entire anisong industry nurtured by Anisama. I thought about this when I saw the earphones glowing in the girls' ears in the live footage of Anisama 2009.
