The feature film anime "In a Corner of the World" will be broadcast on NHK General for the first time on terrestrial wave on August 3 (Sat)! A related special program "#Suzu-san here and there" will also be aired on N-Spec!
Since its release in November 2016, the film version of the anime "In a Corner of the World," which gradually gained a huge response and had an exceptionally long run after its release, will be broadcast on terrestrial wave for the first time. It will be broadcast on NHK General Television on Saturday, August 3, 2019 at 21:00.
The manga "In a Corner of the World" is a manga work by Fumiyo Kono that was serialized in "Manga Action" (Futabasha). It is a masterpiece that carefully and sometimes humorously depicts the daily life of Suzu, a woman living in Hiroshima during the Pacific War. It was later made into an animated feature film directed by Sunao Katabuchi and screened in November 2016. The film is also known for having raised funds for its production through crowdfunding, etc. When the film was first released, it was shown in only 63 theaters in Japan, but gradually its value spread by word-of-mouth, etc., and it became a super long-run film that is still being shown in theaters throughout Japan even after nearly three years have passed since its release. It has become an extremely long-running film that continues to be screened in theaters throughout Japan. The film has been highly acclaimed, winning more than 70 awards both in Japan and abroad, including the Best Animation Award at the 40th Japan Academy Awards and the Best Film Award at the 41st Annecy International Animation Film Festival in Annecy, France.
The film will finally be broadcast on terrestrial television for the first time. Those who have not yet seen the film, as well as those who have seen the film in theaters, can experience the excitement of the film once again.
One week after the terrestrial broadcast of the film, an NHK special program titled "#(hashtag) Achikokochi no Suzu-san: Memories of Life During the War" will be broadcast from 21:00 on August 10 (Sat). The keyword "# (hashtag) Suzu-san here and there" was used in NHK's "Close-Up Today" program broadcast in August 2018 to introduce episodes of people who, like Suzu-san, the main character in "In This Corner of the World," lived hard during the war while devising and weaving their daily lives, including love, fashion and food. The story was born from a call on SNS for episodes of people who, like Suzu, the protagonist of "In a Corner of the World," were living hard during the war, weaving their way through their daily lives in such simple ways as love, fashion and food. The program received a great response to its call to pass on the "desire for peace" and "memories of war" to the next generation by bringing war, which is often thought of as a story of the distant past, closer to home.
Director Sunao Katabuchi, Hikaru Yaotome and Satoshi Ino of "Hey! Say! JUMP," and Chihara Jr. were announced as studio guests for this program. It was also decided that an animation based on these episodes, newly created with Director Katabuchi by MAPPA, the studio that produced "In This Corner of the World," will be used in the program.
In addition, in order to promote this program with a wide range of generations, various NHK programs will be linked together, including "Rajira! (Radio 1), "Asa Ichi" (General TV), which is widely watched by the child-rearing generation, and "Close-Up Today" (General TV), which is supported mainly by the working generation, while calling for "#Suzu-san here and there" contributions for the NHK Special broadcast on Saturday, August 10, on that day, each The performers from the programs will assemble. JAPAN, which has been considering the need to archive memories and records and preserve them for future generations in response to the social issue of the "fading of war experiences," has endorsed this initiative. JAPAN, which has been considering the need to archive and preserve memories and records of the war experience for the future, has endorsed the project and will use the keywords "Suzu-san here and there" together in an attempt to connect "war memories" while sending out unique content.
