Triangular Ruler, Protractor, and Compass---The Best Ruler, an ultra-convenient tool that combines the power of three in one, makes model building more comfortable! Review & Developer Interview [The Tool Way! Part 2]

Hello, this is Kariyasu here, with The Tool Way! In this second installment, we would like to introduce you to the "Best Ruler" now on sale from EchoTech! In the latter half of the article, we also have an interview with him, so be sure to check it out!

What is Best Ruler?

Best Ruler is a multifunctional drafting tool developed by UHOLABO Co. It is a multifunctional tool despite its compact design! The name "Best Ruler" also means "best in comfort,

Bundoki (protractor): can be used as a protractor

En (circle): can be used as a compass

Sankaku (triangle): to quickly draw angles and parallels such as 30°, 45°, 60°, etc.

Trinity: Triangular ruler, protractor, and compass all in one.

The initials "Trinity" are derived from the initials of the three elements of a triangular ruler, protractor, and compass. Incidentally, the product is now available in three colors: transparent, pink, and violet!

It is made of acrylic, which is hard and thick enough, so it is also hard to break. Incidentally, when inserting a pen into a hole or the like, be careful that the tip of the pen is not too thin to some extent, otherwise the tip will not reach the bottom!

There is also a version of the Best Ruler with an illustration of HAKO-chan, the character of the "Toyohashi Technical High School Model Club (Moke Club)" printed on it!

The Moke Club collaboration vest ruler is still under development, so the design may differ slightly from the finished product.

What is Moke Club?

The "Moke Club" is a character content series developed by ECHOTEC Corporation, a company in Toyohashi City, Aichi Prefecture that designs and sells ultrasonic cutters for hobby use. The series depicts the daily lives and model-making activities of high school girls who are loosely involved in the modeling club at the fictional Toyohashi Technical High School, an industrial high school. We also advertise and sell the best rulers.

In addition to the development of goods, they are also actively involved in voice comics and music releases, so be sure to check out their official website!

EchoTech Tsushin" is the world's only ultrasonic cutter magazine. The only ultrasonic cutter magazine in the world, "EchoTech Tsushin" is a magazine of product and event information, as well as an original comic by Noritaka Suzuki, a cartoonist in charge of character design for the MOKE club!

I used it right away!

As mentioned above, the Best Ruler has various functions. Let's learn its functions by watching the video while grasping the details of its construction!

Left end

Center part

Right edge

(1) Drawing parallel lines

After drawing the first straight line, you can draw a 7mm, 10mm, or 15mm line parallel to the first line by utilizing the A, B, and C holes on the left end and the corresponding A7, B10, and C15 holes on the right end!

It is also nice that there are scales on both the top and bottom!

(2) Drawing a corner

After drawing a straight line, fix the nib on the top of the ruler (the part with the 0 scale) and rotate it around to draw a line at the desired angle (10°, 18°, 25°, 30°, 45°), aligning it with the straight line drawn earlier!

A 30° angle has been drawn! If you use the corner part of the ruler, you can also draw 60°, 90°, and 115°!

(3) Draw a circle

Insert a thin pen into the holes at the top of the ruler and the numbers on the scale (hole 5 if you want to draw a circle with a radius of 5 cm) and rotate it around to draw a nice circle, just like a compass!

As a test, I drew a circle with a radius of 3 cm! Hold the pen firmly centered on the hole with the scale in the center, and move the tip of the pen carefully and slowly to draw a beautiful circle. Note that the tip of the pen or the lead of the mechanical pencil must be longer than the thickness of the ruler or it will not fit into the hole properly.

(4) Other uses

You can also use the ruler as a caliper by drawing a pattern on it with a template or by aligning the object you want to measure its diameter with the 0 scale (right-angled part) on the bottom side. Please try to find your own convenient way to use it!

I measured the diameter of a piece of masking tape and found it to be 14.5 mm!

On the next page, we have an interview with the creators of the Best Ruler about the secret story behind its creation, so be sure to take a look at that as well!
