The "JoJo's Bizarre Adventure" anime series began broadcasting in 2012 and will celebrate its 10th anniversary in 2022.
The first exhibition "JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: 10th Anniversary of the Animation" is currently being held in Ikebukuro, Tokyo (Sunshine City, Bunka Kaikan Bldg. 3F, Exhibition Hall C), and is filled with the 10-year history of the series!
This exhibition looks back on the 10-year history of the series through materials and comments from the production team.
Here are some of the highlights!
The Room of Beginnings
The first thing that awaits visitors upon entering the exhibition hall is the "Room of Beginnings.
A powerful original movie condensing the charms of the past series is projected on a large screen, drawing visitors into the world of the work at once. The announcements by the cast members who have played the main characters of the series are also a must-see. Whose voice will be played is random, so you can enjoy listening to all of them!
Bloodlines x Duel
The next area is "Bloodline x Duel.
The lineup of 22 life-size objects of the heroes and boss characters of past games, all newly illustrated, is truly a sight to behold! A family tree of the Jouster family and a timeline of the world of the works are also on display, so let's review the connections between each series before moving on to the next area.
The Soul Passed Down
Next comes the "Souls Inherited" area, which is the centerpiece of the exhibition.
This area is filled with scripts, original animation drawings, storyboards, setting drawings, and other materials, allowing visitors to look back on the activities of the characters and the struggles of the animation production team at the same time. The exhibition space is not only a wall display, but also a ceiling and footprints, so visitors are encouraged to take their time and look around the exhibition space.
In addition, visitors who scan the QR code placed at the entrance to the venue can enjoy an audio guide provided by the six main cast members. By listening to their interpretations of the roles they played, memorable scenes, and memories of postrecording while touring the exhibition, visitors will be able to delve deeper into the contents of the exhibits.
The exhibit is divided into rooms for each series, and each room features a different worldview in accordance with the atmosphere of the work.
Phantom Blood," which is the origin of the series, is set in England in the 1880s, so the exhibition area has a chic and classical impression.
Visitors can see up close the character settings of Jonathan, Dio, and other characters, art settings that allow them to see the design of the Joestar Mansion in detail, and even a three-dimensional model of a stone mask.
In the "Battle Currents" area, the walls of the underground ruins where the men of the Pillar rest are featured as a photo spot! Capture a memorable photo of yourself as the ultimate warrior from the ancient past.
Don't miss the original drawings and storyboards of famous scenes such as Joseph screaming over Caesar's death, the fierce battle between Caesar and Wamu, and the tears of Esidisi. You can feel the passionate spirit of the production team in the powerful brush strokes.
The "Stardust Crusaders" area is a display that traces the footsteps of Jotaro and his friends as they traveled from Japan to Egypt. In addition to character and art settings, original drawings and storyboards, tarot cards and cards of the 9 Egyptian gods of glory, which allude to the stands, are also on display. The photo-like display of scenes from Jotaro and his friends' journey is also very moving.
The "Diamonds Are Unbreakable" exhibit area also takes a close look at Too-cho, where the story takes place. Visitors can see plenty of art settings for each spot. Of course, there is also a wealth of materials that delve into the appeal of Josuke and other characters, including original drawings, setting pictures, and objects that reproduce small objects. Among them, a life-size reproduction of a comic book of Rohan Kishibe's masterpiece "The Boy in Pink Dark" is a must-see exhibit for fans.
The "Golden Wind" area, set in Italy, has a museum-like layout to match the stylish atmosphere of the work. The display is also notable for its details, such as the sealing wax-like objects decorated with motifs of the various characters.
The scene in which Naranja and her friends dance on the boat on their way to Capri is displayed side by side with the storyboard and the video. It is interesting to enjoy the beauty of the images while sensing the intent of the production.
Lastly, there is an exhibition area for "Stone Ocean," the latest in the series. The panels of the characters are surrounded by a prison-like fence, which is reminiscent of the prison in which the film is set. A large amount of setting materials from the first season are on display, perfect for reviewing the story in preparation for the distribution and broadcast of the second season, which is scheduled for this fall.
In addition, there is a photo spot where visitors can take a commemorative photo with Xu Lun holding the prisoner number plate. Capture a memorable picture of the commemorative exhibition!
Hymn to Humanity: The Road to the Future
After passing through the "Souls to Be Succeeded," visitors will arrive at the final exhibition area, "Ningen Hymn: The Road to the Future.
This is a spectacular area lined with portraits of the many characters who have graced the "JoJo's Bizarre Adventure" animation series up until now. The illustrations of the main characters change depending on where you stand, so be sure to take the time to enjoy them from various angles. It may be fun to find your favorite character.
Goods Area and Cafe Area
After exiting the exhibition area above, you will find the merchandise area where all original items are lined up.
Some items are limited and only available at each venue, so be sure to take advantage of this opportunity to get them.
In addition, the collaboration cafe "JOJO 10years Anniversary cafe" is waiting for you in the back.
The cafe offers a nine-course menu featuring the characters that can only be enjoyed at the Tokyo venue, so after you have finished viewing all of the exhibits, take a break and enjoy the cafe until the very end.
