Fifty years after its birth, "The Rose of Versailles" will be made into a completely new animated feature film.

The Rose of Versailles" by Riyoko Ikeda began serialization in "Weekly Margaret" in 1972. Set during the French Revolution, the story beautifully depicts the love and life of Oscar François de Jarge, a beautiful man-dresser, and Marie Antoinette, a pure and innocent queen.


The "Versailles Rose" has become a social phenomenon with its stage adaptation by the Takarazuka Revue Company, TV animation, and film adaptation, and has set a milestone in the world of girls' manga. The Rose of Versailles" is scheduled to be held in Tokyo and other cities from September 2022.

I often receive requests from many fans for a new anime, so I was surprised and happy that it would come true.

It is difficult to say what it means to me, but I am very happy that the work has been read and passed down from generation to generation.

The manga, which was enthusiastically supported by readers from the time it was serialized, became a social phenomenon in various fields, including a stage adaptation by the Takarazuka Revue Company and an animated TV series, setting a milestone in the world of girls' manga. Fifty years after its serialization in 1972, a completely new animated feature film is being produced.
The story revolves around Oscar François de Jarge, the heir to a shogun's family and a beautiful man dressed as a man who was raised as his "son," and Marie Antoinette, the innocent queen who married into the family from neighboring Austria. They meet in Versailles, France in the late 18th century, and live out their respective destinies beautifully, despite being tossed about by the times.


What is "The Rose of Versailles"?
The Rose of Versailles" is a manga by Riyoko Ikeda that beautifully depicts the lives and loves of Oscar François de Jarge, a beautiful man dressed in men's clothes, and Marie Antoinette, an innocent queen from neighboring Austria, who married into the French Revolution. The series was serialized in Weekly Margaret (Shueisha) from 1972 to 1973, and Margaret Comics (Shueisha) published a total of 10 volumes. In 2014, four volumes of new episodes were released for the first time in 40 years, and as of 2022, the total number of copies sold has exceeded 20 million.
In 1974, the Takarazuka Revue Company made a stage adaptation. It was adapted for the stage by Takarazuka Revue in 1974 , and later made into an animated TV series and a movie, creating a social phenomenon in various fields and setting a milestone in the shoujo manga world.
