The long-awaited anime adaptation of "Sougou no Freelen," serialized in Weekly Shōnen Sunday and with a total of over 7.2 million comics in circulation, has been decided! Comments from the two original authors have arrived!

It was announced that the popular "Sougou no Freelen," currently serialized in "Weekly Shōnen Sunday" and selling more than 7.2 million copies of comics, will be adapted into an anime.

The manga "Sougou no Freelen," written by Yamada Kaneto and illustrated by Abetu Kasa, is currently serialized in "Weekly Shōnen Sunday" (Shogakukan). Set in a world "after" the Demon King was defeated by a hero and his party, the story follows the journey of Freelen, a wizard who has lived more than 1,000 years, and the new people she meets. The latest 9th volume of the comic was released on September 15, 2022 (Thursday), selling a total of 7.2 million copies. In 2021, it won the Grand Prize of the "Manga Grand Prize 2021" and the Shinsei Prize of the "25th Osamu Tezuka Cultural Award," creating a whirlwind among manga fans.

The wizard Freelen, together with the brave Himmel and his friends, overcame the Demon King and brought peace to the world after 10 years of adventures. As an elf who has lived for more than 1,000 years, she makes a promise to Himmel and the others to meet them again and sets off on her own. Fifty years later, Freelen visits Himmel, who is still the same as she was 50 years ago, but Himmel has aged and has little time left to live. She regrets this and sets out on a journey to "get to know people. On his journey, he encounters various people and various events await him.
The story unfolds in a novel timeline of "after the defeat of the Demon King," and the characters weave a tale of gripping drama and dialogue, magic and sword fights, and humor that will make you laugh, and the story has won over many readers. The anime adaptation has been eagerly awaited by readers and manga fans alike, and now, at long last, Freelen will embark on his journey as an animated character.

In conjunction with the announcement of the anime adaptation, a visual was also released.
The visual depicts the main character, Freelen, holding his staff in front of his eyes with the shining moon in the background. The visual depicts a somewhat mysterious Freelen, illuminated by the beautiful moonlight and purplish light.

Yamada Kaneto, the original author, expressed his gratitude to the readers and to Abetsukasa, who drew the pictures, and mentioned the production site, saying, "I am amazed at the enthusiasm of everyone in the production team. Abetsukasa expressed his delight, saying, "It's like a dream.
