Total domestic shipments of all Sega "Sakura Taisen" series exceeded 4 million units!

SEGA Games Inc. announced that the cumulative domestic shipments of the "Sakura Wars" series and related titles have surpassed 4 million units.

Sakura Taisen" is a steampunk title that takes place in the fictional "Taisho Era" where steam technology has developed.

The first "Sakura Taisen," released in September 1996 as software for the Sega Saturn, depicted the activities of the "Teikoku Kagekidan," a secret organization formed to protect the peace of the imperial capital, Tokyo.

The story of the "Revue Troupe," which performs on stage as stalwarts of the Grand Imperial Theater in times of peace, and the "Kagekidan," which fights using spiritual power as a weapon in times of crisis, the game system in which trust with friends becomes power, and the TV animation-style direction that embellishes the story, won the support of many players. At the time, it was the biggest-selling original title on the Sega Saturn, and it also won the Best Picture Award at the CESA Grand Prize (now the Japan Game Awards) '96.

Since then, the series and related titles have been released, and yesterday, December 12, 2019 (Thursday), "New Sakura Wars" for PlayStation 4 was released, the first completely new title in the series in about 14 years.

About "New Sakura Wars
New Sakura Taisen" is a dramatic 3D action-adventure game set in the fictional "Taisho Era" Imperial Capital Tokyo, which follows the exploits of the "Teikoku Kagekidan" in their fight against evil. The main character design is by Kubo Taito, known as the creator of the manga "BLEACH" serialized in "Weekly Shonen Jump" (published by Shueisha). The music is by Kouhei Tanaka, who has provided many songs for previous titles in the series. The story is composed by Ishiijiro, who is active in a wide range of media including games, TV animation, and movies.
